My jaw just dropped at that... I mean christ. I kinda knew it but seeing it there.

Voted bad. The annoying thing is that the cut scenes were very nicely done. (To quote Matt from Two best friends play: The budget just kicked in yo!) But that's it. Edgemaster popping up was cool too.

The story itself is stupid. I mean everyone in the story mode is either a dick head or Ivy. And even then Ivy is too nice. I mean of all the characters who should have been a bit of a dick head, Ivy is that character.

It was nice that they expanded on the whole Soul Calibur isn't necessarily good thing from some of the SC4 endings. So yeah. Problem was that it did centre on two/three characters that I didn't care about that much anyway. Was actually looking forward to the story for Xiba, Lexia, Maxi and Natsu. Surprisingly. (Obviously Cervantes too but wasn't expecting much and got nothing!)

@Aiddon

I just created a new thread featuring the article you posted. I feel it'll stir up tons of discussion, good find :)

I good, not mind blowing but overall good, the only problem I see is that most of the cast does not make an appearance which pretty much sux, but I can live with that.

I wouldn't support it to the point where I would sign a petition, but I think it would be easier than fixing the mess that SCV made with the story.

It's not unrepairable by any means, but I think a reboot would be a fresh, current-gen look at the story.
Well, at least we agree that a reboot is in order to help the series.

-"You look filthy and pale... *evil face* you must be malfested!" This is close to being one of the most ridiculous and stupid scenes of all time. I personally rank this close to scenes like "I was to be the one to fill your soul with LIIIUIUIUIUIIIGHT!" and "Master of unlocking."
.

It is a true honor for SCV to be placed next to those audio masterpieces. While I agree that it is good I think you are going a bit too far. It isn't THAT good.

Interesting that they got so far they actually recorded voices for the scrapped story modes.

Most people probably won't agree with me, but I'm hoping they won't use it for anything. With it being written alongside the main story mode, the chances are it's equally bad.

I do see some truth there. I mean, after reading the background stories of some characters (mostly Natsu), it seems that they might have been way to cliche'd. However, there are some characters that I would have liked to see. The main ones is did Raphael ever discover that Viola is his "little" Amy? Or how the heck did Cervantes escape the influence of Soul Edge (It's apparent to me that he did in my opinion because his winning quotes don't deal with Soul Edge that much).

If they were to offer story DLC for the other characters, I'd most likely pay for them because I'm a sucker for stories and who knows, maybe they would be more interesting then Patroklos/Pyrrha's (I really didn't care for their story that much, it was way too cliche'd for my taste, especially when Patroklos "finds himself").

I don't think so. I think the massive cuts came with plot alterations that lead the storyline into what it is now (hence the plot holes, character exclusions, etc,). Most of the events in SCV was just fluff that was added to shorten to story. You can write a great story, cut out a quarter of it, and then edit enough for it to be passed off as the final story, and it could end up being just as bad.

Maybe the story would make more sense if we saw the full picture, but it wouldn't have fixed the writing. ZWEI calling Patroklos dog three times in a row is awkward either way. Well, unless there's some kind of fancy backstory for him about how he's infamous for saying awkward insults.

I'm really glad to see they had intended the story mode to see much better, and I'm liking the chances of a story mode DLC at this point. :D

Tweeting Daishi now! XD

At the least, I hope to see Super Mega Ultimate Soul Calibur V: Super Mega Ultimate Edition, story modes included.

Hate to be a broken record, but story mode kicked me in the face and left me that way. Sure this is fluff stuff since CAS and hardcore play make up for my "ouchies", but I'm not a fan of stories pulled off like this. Despite that, if they're gonna do some DLC story mode to make up for it, then I'm not complaining.

If given a chance to visit their HQ, I'd certainly love to see all their storyboards, even the ones that didnt make it.

It's bad.

Sectus nailed many key points as to why, but here's my two cents anyway:

It's a play once, never touch again affair, The story itself was uninteresting, campy, and the voice acting was bad as usual. That part doesn't concern me so much. I just wish we had more of a storyline for all the characters who got absolutely no real focus, as in: everyone but Pat and Pyrrha. These types of stories I do not like in fighting games. Either give us a story mode that has something for every character, or don't bother. I don't like the 'main characters only' mentality. In other words, don't be Tekken, because I don't give a damn about the devil gene or Jin's mommy issues. Same applies to these two whiny Greek pansies. I went into the game hoping I'd like these two, but once the story ended, all I felt was dread. Tira was probably the only character I enjoyed whatsoever. It was obvious how quickly put together this story was, what with all the plot holes, (Zwei disappearing) random speaking roles, (Viola's two lines) and horrible pacing (Pat finding the sacred treasure right away). It just sucked in every way.

What I truly don't like is how uninspiring the game mode itself was. It's literally just play match and win. Rinse and repeat. Once you unlock what little goods this mode offers, there is absolutely no reason to go back and play it again because there is just no substance to it. I guess one might revisit it to refresh their memory on the unremarkable storyline, lame storybook style cutscenes, and awful voice acting, but I know I wouldn't. And I haven't.

I just played the story. Eww... pretty bad. We jumped 17 years so we could gain Mr Sister-Complex-who-also-has-a-Mother-Complex and Miss I-am-Sorry-I-was-Born? I hated every little aspect of their characterisation, I hated playing them and I cannot see any justification for their existence. I would rather have kept Sophie and Cassie... and Taki, and Xiang, and, well, every other character dropped to justify the addition of those two. The storyboards-instead-of-cutscenes were awful, especially when one of them did not even have any voice acting(!). Actually, the lack of audio on that was probably a blessing. I am already sick of Miss Cry-a-lot's apologies: how did they not think that would get on people's nerves?

The writing was pretty awful. That said, I expect awful writing from fighting games, so it did not worry me too much (it is no worse than SoulCalibur IV IMO). I would have liked an explanation behind characters like Viola, but I guess that was in the huge amount of planned-but-cut content. Z.W.E.I was given a little more exposure, but they still did not manage to do anything to develop his character. Sieg was... dreadful. It seemed a shadow of his normal characterisation. The lack of development on all the Asian characters was disappointing too, but obviously got cut.

A pretty underwhelming and disappointing story, all said, however it is clear that they had plans to do a lot more, just they never had the time to do it. Even if it where finished, however, I would still have been bitterly disappointed that the two main characters where just so terrible. If there is a SCVI, I hope they do the same as Street Fighter 3->4 and roll the time back a little. Bring back the old favourites and dump the twins. It does not matter if they contradict the story of this game, since most of it is missing anyway.

"'Actually, some of the voice-overs are already taken but haven't been used, so we want to make use of it somehow, but we don't know how that's going to be.' [Daishi Odashima] said."

Everyone is unfairly scolding Namco for something that was not within their physical bounds to accomplish. From this article and the interview, Namco seems to have taken the story VERY seriously. And from the quote above, it seems as though Story Mode DLC isn't as unlikely as some of us thought...
I'm just wondering, why do people call Project Soul Namco? Project Soul are the people who made the game (producers), Namco is the publisher. So why call them what they aren't. Might as well start calling Chevy/Cadillac/Pontiac/Buick's all GMC... Sorry just a pet peeve of mine.

If it bothers you, I'll change the post. Just an oversight on my part while writing the post, my bad.
