[North Carolina] Let's make a scene

Doug - let's get some games in soon. You still live in Raleigh? I'd be fine coming out there. That said, I must be honest w/ you...I still don't have a ps3...lol. So yeah....if we play, probably your place.
Actually I live around Clayton now. Not sure if that falls within your driving range. Even if it doesn't there should be a few potential places in Raleigh we could meet up.

GGs to Will today, I was able to make it down to Wilmington for a while today. Of course we have a ways to go, but things are starting to click again.

All: Assuming things look good at the place I'm going to check out tomorrow, what do people think about holding a gathering in Raleigh either next Saturday or the Saturday after that?

GGs, Doug! Things started to come together at the end of our session. Hopefully, we can get Daniel out next time. And we have a long ways to go indeed!

I'm down for games next week. Saturday sounds practical.

Looks like this Saturday won't work for a few different reasons, but any opinions on the Saturday after that?

edit: Oops, I should double-check my own calendar before asking stuff like this. Just remembered Brent and I will be at the Fayetteville EZ tourney the Saturday after this one. And no, Calibur isn't being run there.

Well, any opinions on a Saturday later in October?

Well, Brent wouldn't be able to make it as he's out of town this weekend, but otherwise it might work?

I'm not opposed to October. That's just when the bulk of mid-terms and meaty research papers start showing their ugly faces.

And the last week is bday week for me and Ryan (29th & 30th, respectfully).

I hope you guys are watching the SC5 stream today from France! Featuring Kayane, Namco and special invited guests!

Is there anyone free to go to Greensboro somtime in Nov. We are going to a concert there about the second week maybe we can stop by for some fun.

There was a place in Greensboro, but no one goes there anymore since "the great power surge of 2011" happened, where all the PS3 slims and CRTs were burnt out (because some idiot didn't use surge protectors).

Most of the community in NC is east of Durham now, so it would be difficult to set something up in the west, unless you yourself host something. Otherwise, since we have yet to meet you and your boyfriend, and we have been apart of this community since Soul Calibur 2, it would be more feasible for you guys to come out to one of our sessions we may hold in Raleigh. This let's us know a couple things.

1. You're really serious about getting better at Soul Calibur.
2. You're willing to travel.
3. You really would like to be apart of this community (and we want you to be).

I'm not trying to sound like an elitist, but we're not going to travel just to play two people whom we know nothing about yet. Most of us in NC have been to many major tournaments outside of the state and have proven skill on both regional and national levels. In a boxing match, you would be the new challengers and we would be the champions. And usually, the challenger goes to the champions' home turf to take their crown. Show us what you are capable of and what kind of determination you have.

We are willing to teach if you're not great yet, and we are willing to learn if you're better. So please come out! We are ready to meet you and welcome you into our community for SC5!

Well I suppose that's fair but as always money is the issue but I guess we can save up if there is a guaranteed date and time for meeting in Raleigh. Let's plan ahead and keep each other updated on the situation.

We're actually talking about getting something together in Raleigh sometime soon (October). And I do understand money (because gas isn't getting any better), also jobs, school, etc. I, for one, have to drive from Wilmington to Raleigh, where as, most of the players already live in either Raleigh or Durham. Just keep checking back on the forums for when we get a session together.

@Everyone: I was hoping after the stream from France yesterday we would be talking more about it. Our expectations, what we noticed, etc. I had a nice conversation w/ Ryan earlier today on the phone regarding some observations. Step looks to be GDLK!

Hm October could be possible just not the last week of it. Name some times sounds good. Hope lots of ppl will make it including us lol.

I've only caught a little bit of it, but it looks a hell of a lot more like SC2 than 3 or 4. All I saw was a bunch of standard stuff and Astaroth EX bullrush spam! Thinking I might actually play Patrowhatever.

I thought about you when Ryan mentioned normal bullrush doesn't knockdown anymore. Sucks. Also, I think people are just going to just start calling Sophie's son "Pat."

Some brief thoughts after watching recordings from the French stream:
- Game looks and sounds really good.
- Movement in general looks SO much better. People will be learning the hard way that verticals will have to be more carefully placed.
- Just Guards happened sometimes, but seemed like it was difficult to take advantage of them if you're not expecting it. That's good.
- Was pretty disappointed I saw very few (any?) GIs.
- Asta's regular bullrush not knocking down on NH will be more different than bad, IMO. Hurts his RO game, yes, but may actually be better for the neutral game. And all other versions of bullrush still knock down, right? Though it looked obvious whenever EX bullrush was about to be used, and if you can't delay the indicator, I think you'll see a lot less spam of it in the future.
- Does Pat have any phrases that don't involve the word "justice"? Kinda neutral on this character right now.
- Loving almost everything about Pyrrha, though just by the recordings she may have lost a few good long-distance moves from Sophie (66B, 6B). Hoping I just didn't see them and they're actually there.
- Mitsu looks stupidly simple, but as long as he can mixup 2K, 33B, and throws, he's no worse than mid or upper-mid.
- Did Ivy lose all her stances? Granted simplifying her wasn't a bad idea, but I wonder if they went a bit far?
- Natsu's certainly flashy enough. It remains to be seen how well her mix-up game will hold up once people get familiar with the character.
- Looks like Hilde's charge attacks don't have a zillion amazing properties anymore, though they're still good. I approve.
- No real comments on Tira, Siegfried or Maxi.

Hello NC!!! I'm living in Virginia now so i'm looking to make some connections with the offline scene. I'm bout 2 hrs from Raleigh so its possible for me to drive there to get some games in. Was wondering on average how long your sessions average? Dont wanna plan out and drive that far just to play for an hour lol. Anyways hit me up with any info thanks.

Hey, actually we're trying to figure out a date for a session sometime soon, so if you want to throw in some input that'd be cool. We're looking at some Saturday (not counting this week) in October, just need to figure out when. You shouldn't need to worry about short sessions, I can't remember the last time one didn't go at least three hours. If we did have any short ones, they'd probably be impromptu during the week, which you probably couldn't make anyways.

Three of my classes are behind schedule. This means they're going to push back big papers and exams, which collide w/ my "on schedule" exams. And I'm also participating in live slam poetry, so my October is about to get stupid busy. Let's narrow or discuss dates so I can set aside time on the calender. I won't be able to session spare of the moment, is what I'm saying. :(

I'm about to go over the match vids again and write down everything I observed.

Doug - Disappointed w/ lack of GI? D:<
