Raphael media =/

I wouldn't really call them last minute changes, as the versions we see in videos are months old in real time.
I know the retail version differs from the one at SoCal regionals. That's roughly a 2 months difference. Oh well, in a few days everything will be clear.

And in all honesty, I can understand some conservative pessimism, but to go full-bore debbi-downer isn't right either.

well all we can do is discuss what we have and i just know this:

1) raphael has a tradition: being worse every new chapter of the game:
Raph sc2 high/top tier
Raph s3 Mid tier
Raph sc4 Mid/low tier
Raph sc4 BD bottom tier (and why on earth was he nerfed? his flaws were already known)

2) what we have seen till now confirms the trend

3) the game is already played by many peoples (reviewers, and people who got it i dunno how) and i read they confirm raph is quite low damage

I think that my fears are justified......yet i can t get what s on namco's mind...if there is a character that didn t need to be nerfed was raph.

I will play hime even if he'll be the next rock (and already preordered my CE /._./) , but all we saw till now suggest raph will be bottom tier as soon as people will learn how to react the new moveset and that is a problem i am tired to deal with considering half cast can happily brainless spam BB and get results (exhaggerating obviously but the point is clear).

omg what did they do to my favorite character. he looks so stupid with that hat and clothes. wtf! give him back his soul calibur 3 look. im sick of them changing stuff and making it worse. i dont like all of this stuff they are doing like removing characters and chaning ppls looks. this is almost enough to make me not buy the game because why in the hell change him and make him look like a clown girl.. he looks stupidier than that girl with the circle!

Lol@ SC2 raph being top tier.
Seriously, he's always been a low to mid tier in every game.

And honestly, I dig the hat. It's made of pure awesomeness.

Darkfender, what's with all this pessimism and negative attitude?? I don't think there should be any whining on this forum...but good discussion.
pessimism is not a bad thing, and i never said NAMCO SUCKS screw this game...
I just said "from what we have atm" raph seems IMHO really really BAD see below....

Even if he "supposedly" got worse with every game, I don't think he'll be worse than in SC4 BD. Ive said this before, but you can't seem to find any strengths or positive aspects of this new Raph. There may be some nerfs but there are quite a few buffs but Im not gonna waste time and list them. What's wrong with Raph's low damage?? Raph always had slightly weaker damage than other characters and he could still take quite a few hits and still win. You probably didn't notice some attacks are pretty strong, especially his throws.
last video i saw thow damage was reduced...moreover...

-getting unsafer
-less damage (some moves even 1/3 of previous chapter O_o)
-same issues of previous chapter

Are objective points....

Whereas "maybe his aGI and autoevade will do wonders" is baseless speculation....those are quite unknown....

i still have to understand wich new useful tools he will get....i read all the thread and saw tons of videos...i saw some old stuff enhanced but not things that can be used to cover his weaknesses...nor spammed for pressing....

Ive said before that Raph is never going to be high/top tier. In order to be a good Raph player, you have to be patient, motivated, and devoted. Not being a super powerful, rounded character is what makes Raph fun to use. I got the wrong impression in SC4 when I first saw him but I never lost faith. In the end, he wasn't that bad and became my main as usual.
well this is completely wrong....the game should be BALANCED and devs should struggle to avoid the existence of tiers at all...this is an old discussion.....

And they also promised post release support so IF raph won't really be competitive, we should:
-ask them on what bases they balanced sc5 raph
-tell them wich are his worse problems..

Infact i second peoples who said that explanations on sc5 characters development would help a lot.

P.S. in SC4 he had some hopeless matchups....

P.P.s. i'll recheck tira's vid.

The Raphael Forum hasn't changed in 10 years.

Eat shit asshole!

Anyways, Raph forum gonna be Raph forum. Raph looks great so far. Play him wisely and avoid prepping after EVERYTHING like we see in a bunch of vids and he should be fine.

j/k on the Eat shit thing. Good to see you again.

. You just have to do some extra work.

The amount of work you have to do to win is basically the tiers in a nut shell. Roll ~CAN~ beat MvC2 Sent but it takes a tonna work.

i can t get why....

22B seems unsafe (and lost any followup)
33KB seems unsafer than sc4 and have the same whiff issues
44K is unreliable as sc4
3B became high
no prepB delayed B tracking
AA seems still slow
wrA still slow
1K seems weaker
BTB i saw whiffs a lot even without any step

darkfender, why do you play this character?

I'm serious I want to know.

lol @ SC2 raph top tier and SC3 mid tier

fucking lol

I was gonna say somethin but you guys covered it for me lol. Raph was near the bottom in SC2 until people figured out that you could play a roachy step G style based around nothing but basic pokes and his silly 2k. But he had SOUL CHARGE CANCELS OMGGGGHZDHKSDHKHKHEK

I don't have a gif prepared for this, so just picture me rolling my eyes at you right now, darkfender.

Lets all not gang up on the poor guy now. I think he's learned of the situation in sc2 by now

nah we have said in this SA 100000000000 times to all the "SC2 IS AWESOME AND EVERYTHING IS AMAZING" people they are wrong but they still dont get it

SC2 was horrible because of the game system that allowed G2 , too much glitches and such.
But Raphael as an individual character was amazing in SC2, no doubt about that.

SC 2 Raph: Soul Charge cancels on Prep.
SC V Raph: BE cancels on Prep BB and Prep B(B)

Hmm.

Hmm.

I think they're two entirely different things. Just to keep the topic on SC5 raph, does anyone know the damgae of 6BB(BE)? Thats a pretty fast (and hopefully hit confirmable) decent interrupt. I can see that as the primary usage of meter (as opposed to using the meter to end fat combos).

Lol @ how much worse 33kB(BE) and prep K(BE) look. Actually thats kinda sad.

The improvement doesn't seem as fat as 6BB(BE). Unless you need the win and you have 1.5x meter, then yeah you'd go for the kill.

Just seems like if you QS a move and input 33KB(BE)~CE, you could have done QS~22B, 3(B)~prepBB(BE) for one third the meter . Unless that gets blocked.

----
Anyways, i'm looking forward to seeing how badly Raph's 2B+K series shuts down spammable moves like Leixia's wrB and 22B. Hopefully its slow enough that you could VE it on reaction as opposed to getting hit out of.

darkfender, why do you play this character?

I'm serious I want to know.
i dig the rapier :) i always used fencing characters in every game i had the chance......(excluded sc2 that i played for really a short time)...and after that i really liked how raph could punish things ...

But on the opposite side i really hate characters that relies on pressure game...

and did i already say i NEVER played raph in SC2? or should i repeat that 100 times >_>
i just read it was strong BUT i already stated that i didn t play sc2 raph, long before that post and repeated lot of times...

I never said sc2 was good or bad cause i didn t have the skill to judge it.

moreover i need to get as much info considering how much did it take for me to learn sc4 raph decently >__> (lets say 1,5 years .-.) and they are already yealding tournaments here (i wonder how someone is supposed to play competitively with different moveset, properties and strategy)....

The thing id like to know to start is an easy question....
How raph should be played on sc5?

There's only a handful of people with the game right now.

Not easy to get an answer from such a limited scope of information
