Tira General Discussion / Q&A

" B+K in Jolly is NOT garbage. It changes your stance if they only attack once, and even if they do attack again you get the grab that gives you health and does great damage.

I just don't like how it can be worked around and how it isn't a true GI. If Tira ever gets popular and people understand how she works, you can just get the first 2 hits during a JS B+K and deal the damage, unless my lab work was wrong. You still take full damage during your stance change.

What do I need to take into account when practicing combos? How much air control do people actually have? For example, will the 3B 44AA combo or whatever ALWAYS work, or only if they don't get out of it? (I'm used to Super Smash Bros so I keep wanting to say DI, even though that's not what it is.)

Edit: currently 3/2 with Tira in ranked. Not doing as terribly as I'd thought. Definitely need more practice though. Also ran into my first Hilde, she just spammed from long range. Guess that was a good time to practice my sidestepping, because she killed me twice and then I perfected her three times for the win. Hah.

3B, 44AA has always worked for me. I think the second move comes out fast enough and has wide enough of a horizontal hitbox to tag the opponent before air control can properly take effect. It's the same reason most characters AAs can land both hits on a juggled opponent.

*66AA whoops. It only took a like of this post to realise I made a huge ballsup there. <_<

I see. I was asking because I realized you can add the 3B after some other attacks (66B works well, I believe that's the one that spins your ring around a bunch), but I'm not sure it's viable online if they're smart enough to move.

Does anyone have a good 8-step tutorial video? I'm slow as hell and I have a feeling it's because I can't maneuver properly.

There are no guaranteed followups to 66AA that I know of. I believe 3B is one of the best guaranteed followups after 1A, and it is still good for tagging a little extra damage to a downed opponent if they do not get up in the right way, including after 66AA. What works and what doesn't after a knockdown is entirely dependent on how your opponent decides to recover, and it's really a guessing game on both players' parts. That's where reads and predictions come in.

I know I'm a bit late in saying this but I really don't think Tira is a particularly hard character.
I honestly agree. The hardest part of active gameplay is just keeping an eye on whether you're in Jolly or Gloomy, in my opinion. Maybe that's why I like her so much!

Switching between Patsuka and Tira is like night and day in difficulty, though you can say that for pretty much anyone and Patsuka...

I feel that way too, but with Tira. I'm so used to the stance changes I can't play any other characters. I try to play a little Ivy though, it doesn't go great, but it goes decent...

what are the properties/timing of A+B vs B+K (both in JS and GS)?

I thought B+K just counters verticals correct? Are they both equally effective when it comes to auto GI and countering? or is A+B mainly for stance switching and B+K for damage?

From what i know RaidenNC the only real differences are in B+K JS / GS. One takes a long time to actually counter and the other is fast about it.

I'm looking for a new character to learn next to Viola and I really like Tira in terms of looks and style. Can anyone give me a quick rundown of her strengths and weaknesses? Thanks!

Strength:
-She has great damage when in Gloomy stance.
-Her combo ability is great, especially in gloomy.
-Her CE is one of the best in my eyes, others will disagree
-Fantastic rushdown, constant pressure
-She can ring out for days
-She has style

Weakness:
-Less damage in Jolly
-Can be difficult to control stances at first

Don't listen to anyone that may tell you not to play her. If you like her, stick with her!
This is my first Soul Calibur and I chose Tira, it's a strange adjustment because of her random stance changes, but I love the character and will not give her up. Keep reading these forums and learn some of her combos, learn a little about her stances as well.

If you'd like, I can play a few games with you and help you out :)

Are you on PSN, and if so can I get some tutelage as well? Just starting out in SCV and trying to find a character to main and I've settled on Tira for right now and want to see if I am going in the right direction with her. I appreciate it. ^^
