~ Murasame's Corner of CAS ~

Just a few edits I'm doing on some of my characters, starting with Noa since she was among my first creations, and I never edited her after finishing. Thanks to Matty82, I discovered usefulness in some stickers and wanted to try out. The ribbon one (which had a bit of bumpmaps and I didn't know) is so magical.

The edits aren't finished of course, since I just wanted to try some I never thought of using.

I think I might also change her 2P color scheme so it's different from her 1P, even though the former is pinker while the latter is more purple.

Not much update will happen in a while. I don't find any motivation with new characters for the other fighting style right now, so I'll just leave it at this roster for now.

*applause* I won't bore you with what you've already heard ;) But props for using the chain accessory well (I hate, hate, hate positioning it convincingly -_-)

Thanks~ Don't worry, your comments won't bore me. I'd be mad at myself for thinking such things if ever.

Little update!

I made a 2P for Ayumi (Wyverndust Red) loosely based on her SCIV color scheme. Hurray for making her look even less Asian! I might keep on tweaking it in the future since I've made it quite quick.

Ayumi 1.JPG

After finding a way to color the top section of the Wonder Jacket while keeping the frills white, since this isn't wasn't an option (to my disappointment), I tweaked her 1P slightly. It's not 100% correct since the blue still goes slightly over the white on some sections.

Lastly, I'm currently working on a 2P for Uriel. I haven't decided on the color scheme yet.

@ Murasame : Your character designs, along with their respective profiles, are quite interesting to me. I've been lurking at this thread for quite some time, but I thought I should give you praise and thanks for giving me inspiration to continue my own designs.

...Speaking of which, mind if I adapt some pieces of your designs as my own? It'll make me happy to do so. ^^

Thank you! Of course you can. Out of curiosity, what are some of the things you want to adapt?

Before I reply, I'd like you to know that I was once an aspiring writer who wanted to make a lot of good stories, but because I had a huge amount of writer's block, I wasn't able to continue my work. In fact, you could say that after seeing character stories being part of their profile like yours, I couldn't help but start to miss the many restless nights that I've once spent writing on my own first novel, enjoying every moment of it! Of course, I couldn't help but admire other people's stories too since they help me improve my own, one way or the other.

How I truly miss the good old days...! But enough of that.... I need to move on....

As for the things that I want to adapt, here they are in random order:

1.) Marian von Kaiser's various armor wear as well as her 1P looks. The fact that I don't have the Black and White Knight armor sets (having failed to buy the Collector's Edition) means that I'm having difficulty trying to make good looking armored knights in general. Even then, I did managed to create some, having to do most of them from scratch, but I need to study some more to see what else might be possible to make it look cool despite the CaS part limitations....

And that also goes for most of your armored characters like Ryo and Ayumi from Wyverndust as well (I really, really do like that idea of yours!). Not to mention that I need to know what pattern did you use on Marian's 2P sword to make the gem in its middle look crystalline.

2.) Masamune herself in general. She looks so cool in both versions! ^_^

Also, I really do miss the various CaS gear from Soul Calibur 4 - and that includes Seung Mi-na's Bon Seong gear (all of it!!!)! I really do hope that they'll bring it back to us players as a DLC package, but.... :(

3.) Yunfei's costume looks awesome, and her story sure gave me a laugh! I should start taking notes....

Too bad I didn't see it here any more. What happened to it...? =/

4.) Katherine looks cute and cool (thank goodness for freckles! ^.^ ). Preferably, her 1P version (although her 2P version looks considerably interesting to me....).

What's really funny is that, once upon a time in Soul Calibur 4, I named one of my own female characters with the same name as your own, except they obviously look completely different from each other (mine uses a different weapon, has a different personality and is obviously older than your own, for instance. But both of them were hooded). When Soul Calibur 5 came out, I was thinking whether I should recreate her or not when I came across your thread and saw your own version. That really surprised me, to be honest, but I ended up laughing like a loon since I was happy someone else made an entirely different version of her altogether.

Now wouldn't it be even funnier if my version and yours would meet and they ended up fighting each other because someone else mistook one for the other in an equally funny situation? That'll give me a laugh! xD

...Sorry. I couldn't resist.

5.) Yuuka's Grieve Edge boots for both versions! She's also a true badass, including her story! A great masterpiece, if you ask me. o.O

Man, I really miss that CaS style ever since Soul Calibur 3.... While the Devil Jin CaS style does offer a lot of good moves and tricks, nothing - and I mean, NOTHING! - could ever replace the Grieve Edge style in terms of sheer originality and cool factor!

...And that's another thing to wish for as a DLC for Soul Calibur 5. Damn it.... T_T

6.) Muramasa's Orochi Gear is impressive. The fact that you've made good use of the Jester's Pants makes it even more impressive in my book since I never seem to like 'em no matter what I do. Well done! :)

Reminds me of the old saying, "Restrictions breed Creativity."

Anyway, I think I might probably recreate that armor and probably recolor it, or something. Hmm.... ~_~

7.) I'm quite intrigued about some of the other designs that you've made (like Alexis' costume, for example), but I think I'd rather leave them alone because they simply don't have anything that I might add and adapt to my own creations - at least not yet, for the time being.

That doesn't mean I don't like them. In fact, I really am impressed by the way you made them! ^^

Seriously, though, I like the way you made your character stories so well. You have the makings of a good writer, and you should try your luck at making a great novel or manga someday! But that's another topic altogether....

I humbly thank you for giving me inspiration and allowing me to adapt some of your designs as my own, Murasame. I really mean it! m(_ _)m

Now I need to sleep soon. My mind's on fire right now.... Later! ~_~

P.S. : As for Uriel's 2P, might I suggest some white and light blue (with a small dash of pink and yellow) as her colors? It would look good on her, I think....

The good old days huh, well, it's not too late to bring something new and find it today. ;D I'm sure you can if you put your heart to it.

Replies to each of your points:
1) Marian: I must say the White Knight armor, especially the faulds, is really great. It compensates a lot of the CAS limitation of this game, and I REALLY hope they release quality, and more useful packs in the future instead of what we've got so far (which usually one has, like, one or two really good items that can be used with versatility).

As to how I made the crystal shine, you have to use the golden scales pattern in the Ethnic section. Make its size at maximum and then play with the angle of it until you get the effect you want. It literally GLOWS when you're in stages like Astral Chaos and Utopia of the Blessed ;D Try Astral first.

2) Seong Mi-na's gear was love *__* I also love Cassandra's gears and Ivy's Belle skirt.

3) Yunfei is still here. She's on page 1... o.O

4) That idea makes me chuckle actually! How is her personality and what weapon does she use? Do you have any pictures of her around here that you could show me? (of her SC4 version if you haven't made a SC5 version by now). Well if anything, Pocky Yoshi is the one who loves to put created characters together in funny short scenes, in the Misfortune Comics topic.

5) Thanks! I love trying to integrate the universe with the characters somehow. I'm sad that they didn't make a new character with a completely revamped and BALANCED grieve edge moveset. It would have been interesting and actually be "weapons" instead of, well, Devil Jin. It's weird when Yuuka gets stripped in her first round. Then the rest of the time she fights half naked without protective gauntlets and grieve edges...

6) You should try! The jester pants' most important part are the blades attached to the thighs. I've also seen someone use that for some kind of assassin and thought it was clever, so I tried on her.

Funny how you talk about manga, since I've been wanted to do one when I was younger. I have also done a short, compressed scene showing a bit of Noa's story from my manga (it was a little 8 page projects, and obviously that wasn't enough). SC Noa is based off of her so yeah.

I've put the idea of realizing a manga aside, but I still have the characters and parts of the story in my head. It was done 4 years ago, but if you're still interested in that short comic, send me a PM.

For Uriel's 2P, I was still stuck with no inspiration, and your ideas sound very appealing! I'll try that next time I play SC5.

I humbly thank you for your vote of confidence in me. I'll be sure to keep that in mind the next time I attempt to write. Probably sometime in the future, I hope.... ^_^

As for the rest:

1.) After reading your post, I'm starting to wish that I had both the White and Black Knight armor sets right now.... Yet another thing to wish for as DLC.... :(

Also, major thanks for the tip! Even though I've already seen and used the Gold Scales pattern before, I've yet to utilize it properly as a crystal. This will help me out a lot! :)

2.) Oh, yeah...! How could I forget those, too...! And don't forget Ivy's 2P boots in SC4 as well...! o.O

Thanks for reminding me, Murasame. Looks like we both have a lot to wish for, huh? ^^

3.) Begging your pardon, but I only saw her story profile in page one. When I opened the spoiler, I didn't see her pictures at all. What I got instead was this: "This image or video has been moved or deleted ~ Photobucket."

I thought I should bring that to your attention. If you have time, could upload the image again, please?

4.) As much as I wanted to post my characters in this website, I'm afraid that I can't do that since I don't have enough space in my own flashdrive. Perhaps I should buy another since I needed the data in the old one.... ~_~

But make no mistake! I really wanted that scenario to happen. And I'm sure that Pocky-Yoshi would've loved that, too! :D

As for my own version of Katherine, she happens to be a serious character with a no nonsense personality. A hooded veteran knight, her fighting style is brutal and dangerous (for that reason alone, I gave her Nightmare's fighting style!); and she will stop at nothing to achieve victory on the battlefield. Despite this, she also has a code of honor and has a soft spot for little children - especially among her young apprentices which often made her smile with pride since she never had children of her own....

Although Katherine had slightly dark skin and well-muscled physique, she is nevertheless beautiful despite the fact that she's in her mid-thirties. Though her origins are a complete mystery, she nevertheless appeared within the various kingdoms across the land, looking for someone worthy to serve. After losing honorably in a duel with a warrior known only as Lonewolf, she became one of his loyal companions. Together, with several others, they formed the Wolf's Brigade and fought in many battles against evil wherever it lurks.

She was last seen fighting against the multitude of foes to avenge her slain comrades - some of which were her apprentices - in order to give the rest of her companions the chance to enter the great tower where the two legendary swords and their owners clashed at its topmost portion. Though some believed she had perished in that fateful battle, her corpse is yet to be found....

...Oh! And my favorite line from her in Soul Calibur 4 is this: "What's wrong? Crawl to your feet."

So, what do you think? :)

5.) Hm, yeah.... It's a shame, really since the stickers and patterns only prevent the lower parts of your character's costumes from breakage. But it's still better than nothing, at least....

Like you, I also do hope for an official character with the Grieve Edge style to appear in a future Soul Calibur game someday. Even then, having that as a CaS only style also works for me, too! Thus hope for DLC.... ^_^

6.) I'm already experimenting with them even as I post this. Thanks a bunch! ;)

7.) Now that I've seen Alexis again, I decided to adapt her 1P design as well since that can also be worn by a male character (with personal tweaks, of course). Besides, I do need to do something about the various cowboy gear that I've found and unlocked in the game, after all. xD

While I'm curious indeed about that short comic of yours, now's not the time for me to satisfy that desire because there are a few other issues that I need to deal with. Perhaps on a latter date via PM...? ^^

As for your Uriel 2P, might I also suggest that you give her costume and look an angelically beautiful, yet very dangerous vibe? After reading her backstory, I believe that's a given, don't you think so? And what about the wings in her 1st costume as part of that costume, too? Or maybe you have a different design in mind for her perhaps...?

I seriously think that Uriel's new design could go anywhere at this rate. Be creative!

Thanks again for everything, Murasame! Farewell for now.... m(_ _)m

Gotta say, you are the master of taking awesome pics, especially with Siegfried's swords. After seeing yours, I had to go and change some of my character cards!

3) Oh snap, I completely forgot to fix her links when I did so with the others! Thanks for the heads up, Yunfei's back now.

4) That's neat! Keeping it simple and effective. I like that. Also, that line she says, which is when we uses Angol Fear's voice in CAS, is nice. Her voice itself was one of my favorites. I think that overall the voices and lines from SC4 CAS were better compared to the extremely archetypes that we have now. Why couldn't we have all of them? DX <--greedy bastard asking for too much.

5) Actually stickers do not prevent the lower body items to be unbreakable. Everything in the "pants" section, such as skirt and such, will never break; the same thing applies to undergarment and socks. Everything else, such as belts, shoes, armor, will break. :(

7) DO IT! Haha, I wanted to make her outfit a bit badass manly while keeping a few feminine quality about it, so yes, it can be adapted to male quite easily!

About Uriel: Hm, since I did something like that for her 1P without going overboard such as adding spikes, I wanted her 2P to be more "gentle" looking. However, what you suggested could work. The reason why I didn't put the wings is because it's in the necklace section, and I used one already. I think that if I try to inspire myself with Pyrrha's 2P with your idea, it could work.

I just wish, REALLY wish I had more items (DLCs) to work with for her 2P. I can easily think of mixing some of Ivy's items from SC4 to get the result I want, especially the skirt and boots.

Gotta say, you are the master of taking awesome pics, especially with Siegfried's swords. After seeing yours, I had to go and change some of my character cards!
Thanks! I didn't want to go overboard with them. It's mostly so we can see the outfit well along with the weapon. For the rest of the cards, I kept them full-body, similarly to the default character cards.

It's mostly so we can see the outfit well along with the weapon.
I've always found that to be a bit difficult ESPECIALLY making the character's card. It's like either show the full body with a tiny picture, or zoom in to see a detailed mug shot but miss most of the creation. But yours look so good, again, especially Sieg's, and since he is one of my mains, I see your pics and go "oh I know that pose, why didn't I think of that?"

@ Murasame :

Hello! I thought I should tell you this old saying before I move on:

"You can create a perfect machine out of imperfect parts."

It's something to think about the next time you go to creation mode. Especially when you're attempting to work on your next set of masterpieces and make them look nice! Good luck...! ^^

As for the rest ~

3.) You're welcome! ^_^

Now that I've seen Yunfei properly, mind if I ask what type of make up did you use on her as well as the numbers involved? I just realized how good make up would look on someone like her, and I wanted to achieve the same effect on some of my female designs, too. I mean, I just recently tried out some of them out ever since the game came out, but the results ended up badly most of the time (with only a few exceptions).

At least Project Soul decided to add a lot of variety on that department, both as a blessing and a curse, I'm sure.... ~_~

4.) It's a sad state of affairs, really.... But you must remember that you can't have everything, so we always look for alternatives to make it all work. Besides, I really enjoyed this version of CaS since it forces me to be creative and think carefully to achieve the desired results that you want.

...But, yeah. There are indeed some things that we truly miss from SC4 (or even from SC3!), and there are plenty indeed. I just hope that Project Soul hasn't forgotten about all that and left us in the dirt, but I don't think they'll do so since they desperately needed fans like us in general to keep the series alive, don't you agree?

Anyway, I think we're getting slightly off topic here, so I'll stop. Instead, I need to ask you if you're interested in hearing more about the rest of the Wolf's Brigade characters (and whether I should really continue with my story about them as long as I play the Soul Calibur series like this one, or even beyond that). If you do, then please give me some time since I still haven't finalized some of them before I present them in a thread or something - and that includes the villains, too! ^^

...Of course, you could always say no since I might end up wasting our time in the process, so....

5.) I knew I forgot something in my last post.... My bad! xp

But like I mentioned before, it's better than nothing at least, so I'm not complaining! :D

7.) Thanks a bunch! I'll do my best. :)

I guess that's all I had to post for now. Later! ^^

@Kai:
3) Here's her make-up:
- Face paint 64
-- 9, 38, 8 -- 9, 40, 28 -- 9, 60, 2 -- 6, 58, 1

4) I am interested actually. I don't visit 8wayrun as often now, so if you happen to create a thread with them in it, can you PM me? That way, if I visit here, I know I won't miss it.

Many thanks for your reply, Murasame. m(_ _)m

I'll be sure to let you know by PM once I'm ready to post them. It'll take some time, though, due to the nature of my situation.... Wish me luck! ^^

Perhaps you don't really need me to tell you this, but I'm going to say it anyway. Your CaS is too awesome! A great amount of detail that kept me amazed. Definitely million times better than any of my CaS. Oh and my favorites are Yuuka and Noa. ^_^

Thanks a bunch! I try what I can, and I find myself reusing some items inevitably because of the poor quality of others.

OPINION WANTED

I've made a 2P for Ryo. However, I'm still trying to figure out what shoulder spaulder to give and I hesitate between two.

The first one is the same as his 1P. I like the level of details in it and it has a light armor feel. However, it does make it look bulky sometimes with Pat's armor because of its size. A good thing is that the details on it matches with the rest of the design in some ways, such as the forearm guards. The fur also rhymes with the leather part of the armor (both can't be recolored).
SOULCALIBUR Ⅴ_12.png

SOULCALIBUR Ⅴ_13.png

The second one is much simpler in design and at first seems to have a heavier look. However, when put with this armor, it almost look like light spaudlers. Even though it raises higher, that aspect seems to make the overall look flow better along with its simplicity in details, only having more textures on that "circle", which kind of matches with the lynx.
SOULCALIBUR Ⅴ_26.png

SOULCALIBUR Ⅴ_27.png

So I want to hear which one I should keep? I'm more inclined to take the second one for the following reasons:
- Simpler look so it's not too busy for the eyes
- Different from 1P
However, I'm still open to your opinions before making a final decision
