Algol General Discussion/Q&A

I noticed that Tiamat spotted an error with the damage on 44B and I decided to check the ALMIGHTY GUIDE!

Here's what was said:

:4::4::B: (Wazn Nath Tawr): Increased damage (30→34).

Now, Tiamat, you were correct with the fact that the numbers were incorrect, but the damage is actually 28-29 (the guide says 22,7)

I guess that's 22 for the initial hit + 7 or 8 for fall damage, which brings the total to 29, so a 5 damage buff is nice, but RandomFreak, you think it would be possible for you to check if the damage increase is for the initial hit or the fall damage.

The patch is out in Europe so I decided to test the changes to Algol.
  • QI B knocks the opponenet down in a way that you can follow up with a few things (3B BE, CE, 2K and maybe more.) The combos are guaranteed.

well that's what I thought the patch notes meant thanks for confirmation. this is what we like to call a completely unneeded buff. the move is basically safe on block and does 30 damage knockdown, it really doesn't need a buff like this.
but hey I'll take it!
I'll probably be adding QI B combos to the combo list tomorrow, lol
 
ok patch is out earlier than expected. QI B is broke now

......but backstep G is nerfed into the ground. since Algol has a strong backdash and a weak sidestep, and he also has very good anti backstep himself pre-patch, I think it is pretty clear the backstep nerf is worse for him than most
 
Just for clarification Algol is indeed tournament legal correct? I just haven't seen much gameplay from him (actually I haven't seen a single use of him in a tournament which is why I'm asking)
 
and tiamat has been using him (and winning) in every tourney he's been in. come on guys, he's your mod! pay attention to his performance! not every SA gets a mod that actually performs well with thier character.
 
QI B is too good! As you stated, an unnecessary buff, but I'll take it.

I like 6BBB now. Before people could step the bubble easily, but it appears that the recovery after the bubble is less, allowing you to rush in quicker. Although the first 2 hits are high, I think I can make use of it in general poking/mixup strings.

Is it me, or does WS B seem to float a bit higher? Not too high for crazier combos, but just slightly higher.

FC 8B BE does a grip of damage. A good WS attack that can lead to loads of damage.

Yeah, this character is too much now. I'm surprised that more people aren't using him, but I'm sure that will change shortly.

Yeah, of all the characters that needed buffs, algol wasn't one of them, lol. Welp. Thongs for everyone.

To be honest, a lot of people have pocket algols here in TX.
 
Came in here just to say that QI B is hilariously good now. They just had to give us another tool for connecting 236236A+B+K or 3B BE. And people should just block high against QI mixups now and eat the low. lol

i'm having a hard time vs steppers/pressure up close. 3a is too slow and a lot of his moves are open for massive punishment if stepped (22b, 3b, 66b). I'm using a lot of 2a now, and trying to ch confirm 6aa-string and i works so-so. any other tips?

What I tend to do on those people who tend to turtle all day is to turtle yourself. Stay away from your opponent and zone them with bubbles while keeping an eye for 2 things:

- They do a back step or a back sidestep (you should be able to 4B+K them on reaction for full combo, or at least spend 1-2 BEs in the combo to harass them and save meter for another round)

- They try to close the gap because they will inevitably become frustrated with the bubbles and will make a mistake, causing them to get hit with some bubbles letting you hit them for free and then repeat the zoning process afterwards

The thing is that you must be careful if you're facing Ezio or Cervantes or another Algol, in Ezio and Cervantes's case , they can hit you faster with their projectiles than you can, but in that case, just duck (and block low in Ezio's case) and that should take care of that problem
 
2A is solid up close, but not scary enough. 6A series is okay, but the 2nd hit can be ducked on block. Try working with 4AB. Its easily hitconfirmable, NC, does decent damage and pushes them far away on hit.
 
your QI B combo tiamat i got 15 hits for 200 damage, i could keep going but i assume i would have run out of bar by then, is the 157 the full amount possible with bar? after the second QI A+BB does it run out or something?
 
Hey everyone, since the patch there are a few things around the soul arena that are not correct. I still haven't updated the 44B combo damages in the combo sticky for one thing, but a few things in the matchup reference thread will no longer be correct either. (for example, you can't punish Aeon 66A on block anymore) So if you see something incorrect due to patch changes and I haven't fixed it let me know.

Algol is my tertiary but I will use just him if you want. GT: Paranormal Oreo
 
Tell me about Algol, dudes. I might main him (dropped Nightmare, Tira and Z.W.E.I. already.). What are his strengths and weaknesses?

And don't you think his CE is a bit too OP'd? Not only it deals 140 damage from anywhere on the screen, it also can be combo'd into...
