[12] Conqueror
Ah, CAS. Nothing more therapeutic than creating something out of nothing...then realizing it's either a total turd because you didn't realize that thing would move that way in a fight or you get armour broken in round one. Yet we carry on doing the thing. Building the thing, fighting the thing, raging at the thing, deleting the thing, rebuilding the thing because it turns out the thing wasn't all that bad after all. Such is the rollercoaster of Soul Calibur: Dress Up and yet we still volunteer ourselves for this experience. Why? We like things.

Alright philosophy lesson is over. I'll post the character pictures and bios/wordy crap in separate tags so if you just want pictures you can be spared my drivel. Good deal? Well not for me...it's more hassle for me but I'll do it because I'm nice (enough).

As I preview it this post has phantom Spoiler tags. Click the bottom one for something that isn't a black bar.

Cali
Calishield.jpg
Soul Calibur doesn't do watches. But if it did...
Caliclose.png
This is why we eat with utensils.
Califull.png
Worst. Transformer cosplay. Ever.

Bio:

Cali was designed to be that annoying, offensively optimistic character. She's a scavenger with an incredibly active imagination. Resourceful and innovative, any of her irritating traits are far out weighed in the eyes of her betters.

She was entered in Brucege's CAS Engineer challenge and has undergone some changes since then. The newest DLC was used to replace her leggings and some textures were swapped around. Her Gear Shield was me experimenting with the accessories and although I now have Dampierre's moveset as an option, I haven't the heart to drop it.

Obviously her design has various bits and bobs. She's supposed to look very cluttered without being a total mess. She's been grimed up with Pattern 88 and really the twirly pigtails were the only option. Her hair and skin tone are a slight nod to Ed from Cowboy Bebop.

Pyhrra's style was used because she looks like she doesn't want to fight. This fits Cali because although she's not the most skilled, she can get scrappy if she's pushed.

Miranda

Mirandaclose.png
Not evil.
MIrandastance.png
"Sorry I'm late, who wanted a prostate exam?"
MIrandaarm.png
Hug it. See who wins.
Bio:
Miranda is a fairy. Honestly, she is. She was entered into Brucege's CAS Challenge and everything. She's a fairy. Shut up.

She's practically minded. She doesn't LIKE battering things to a pulp but if it helps the flow of nature and the growth of the land she will reduce you to your component parts.

Not a tree hugger, she wears one on her arm and pummels people's heads in with it. As I said in the topic I was keen to try something different and my head naturally went to Tree Arm. She's undergone some alterations since then. As was suggested the hip leaf is gone and more "branches" have been added along with some chest armour to make her look more intimidating. Her eyes are now yellow, mainly because I felt like it and her arm paint-stuff is a bit darker. The snakeskin texture proved to be very useful here since it gives everything a nice natural-but-not kind of feel. If that makes sense. It's magic bark. It shines. Naturally. But not. I can't make it any clearer.

ANYWAY she has the Autumn coulours running throughout and even Jin's eye lasers are orange so everything fits nicely. The fighting style is quite apt for the Tree Arm thing. Right hooks look vicious and the dark wings make her extra creepy, especially with the falling feathers. Shame you can never see her face thanks to the victory pose camera angles.

OK this was a warm up. I've got some more things for you to scrutinize.

A heroic knight and a huntress.

Dartec
Dartecstance.png
"If I stand here long enough SOMEONE has to run into my sword and die..."
Dartecshield.png
I like wings. Do you like wings? WINGS ARE AWESOME!
Dartechelmless.png
"Nobody is allowed to see my hat-hair...prepare to die..."
Dartechelm.png
Uhuh...and you see out of this thing...how?
Bio:
Dartec is the epitome of valour, heroism and courage. His design reflects this in that it is utterly ostentatious and obnoxious. His gold trimmings, silver-white armour and flashes of strong red are to be expected from a man who is obviously the 'good guy'. Though his face...he ain't happy about somethin'.
Dartec is the character whose design principle just defaulted to "does it look fancy and ornate? try it on him". He originally had the Tiger Lily greaves and they work just fine but the new DLC boots (Pat's 2P ones) have soles. So they win.
Being a SCIV carry over he was totally screwed when Zas was cut. The Nightmare Helm was also gone so it was pretty much a ground up reworking of everything. He's more agile now to accommodate Pat's style - which in itself is totally obnoxious by the way. Also although the Nightmare helm is now back via DLC it just doesn't suit him anymore. Besides I've grown rather fond of the helm I made for him.
Kendra
Kendrafull.png
"First one to make a Red Riding Hood joke gets a punch in the throat."
Kendraback.png
The OCD Test.
Kendrahoodless.png
"Who took my f***ing hood!?"
Kendraclose.png
"What did I tell you about the Red Riding Hood jokes? Not funny now, are they?"
Kendrawolfnologo.png
"...so I punched him in the throat. I swear he was crying..."
Bio:
Kendra is a hunter, tracker and all around woodswoman. Her design has a mix of armour and leather for mobility, along with earthy brown shades with the occasional flash of red. The hood was a nice bit of DLC since it allowed her to have a hood without really impeding the bow and quiver too much.

The total opposite of Dartec, her design was to be discreet, efficient and practical (well, practical for Soul Calibur anyway.).

Zwei's style was chosen mainly because Sieg's great sword was already taken and I wanted to avoid doubling up. Kendra was always intended to be a hunter and since Zwei's came with a wolf it seemed natural. Also Zwei's style is very rigid and static (unlike say, Leixia) which makes it good for pieces like the bow since it doesn't randomly poke through your chest.
Well that's all from me for now. It's really early in the morning and I need to sleep at some point.
Have a good day!

Thank you, both. Next we've got a ruler/adviser duo. This was also an experiment in fur. Feedback is welcome!

Stahl
Stahlfist.png
"The principal is as follows: reciprocate the bro-fist or get stabbed."
Stahlclose.png
Look ma! No hands!
Stahlskirt.png
It also makes for a lovely curtain.
Bio:
Stahl is a strong, iron willed-will crush your balls with her bare hands if you annoy her- kind of gal. Some nordic, viking-esque things were going through my head. She was originally (SCIV) more regal looking but given Sophitia's removal Pat's style seemed to fit well with what I wanted (I know I said earlier I don't like doubling up but F it.). Pat's athletic moveset, controlled aggression and showboating capture Stahl's personality perfectly.
In terms of her appearance she's got fur as a hint of her savagery complimented by the golds and blues showing her stature. She's max height and built so as to add to her presence. Again, Pat's stance makes her seem even larger.
Alundir
Alundirswish-1.png
*Insert your own joke about "unsheathed weapons" here*
Alundircoat.png
"...where is the camera guy...?"
Alundirshoulders.png
"Seriously where the hell did he go?"
Alundirclose.png
"Aha! There you are! Get ready for a damn good thrashing! Have at thee!"
Bio:
Alundir is a cunning, quick witted scoundrel capable of talking his way out of almost any confrontation. His role as "Adviser" is simply a way for Stahl to keep an eye on him.
Patsuka's style is lighting fast, aggressive and direct. The style also maintains a level of composure, never looking our of control or off balance. The shift from Mitsu's SCIV style to Patsuka's was a natural one.
In terms of his look he is heavily based off of the Night's Watch from Game of Thrones. The long dark coat adding presence and the fur again showing his more savage, brutal side. He's dressed for cold weather which is a happy coincidence given Patsuka's CE has icy touches in it.
A little tip for fur if you're interested: Using the snakeskin texture makes it seem silvery and makes it react to light in interesting ways. It looks more dynamic than the usual, flat textures. Try and see for yourself.
I'm not sure who's going up next. Such a crucial life changing decision must be slept on.

@ Fliptop : Impressive...! o_O

Your characters are simply masterpieces of the highest form! I could only hope you would improve and become even better at this as time goes on....

I am truly humbled, and I thank you for the amount of inspiration that you've given me this night, Fliptop. m(_ _)m

@Furako: His coat was a bitch to get right (I'm still not convinced it's perfect). I now hate Raccoon tails with a passion. I had this playing in my head while making him.

@Lonewolf Kai: There's plenty of great ideas from some of the people on this forum, it's just a matter of doing your own thing with them. The concepts can come from anywhere and can be as simple or as complex as you want. Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad you got something out of them. I have fun making these which is all you can really hope for in a game so anything extra is definitely a great thing. I'm sure as more DLC is released there will be more weird and wonderful things appearing on this forum.

Coming back with some greek inspired stuff plus a little bit of myth.

Trish
trishpose.jpg
I have no idea how she's gripping that. It doesn't look comfortable.
trishfull.jpg
Do YOUR whites come out this bright?
trishaction.jpg
"What stick? I don't see any stick. No stick here. SHUT UP! YOUR FACE IS A STICK!"

trishskirt.jpg
"Alright this is a stick up!"
(I'm sorry)
Bio:
Trish is a warm hearted, kind, thoughtful person. Peaceful and diplomatic, she will always attempt to resolve conflicts with words before they get out of hand. Reluctant to engage in physical combat she is saddened if she is forced to do so but will nonetheless fight with all she knows.
"Simple" is Trish's thing. She's a priestess. Her design isn't overrun with colours nor cluttered with objects and armour. It's just good old leather and cloth. Any patterns or stickers were watered right down to be more subtle and understated. Any stickers which were used were used to add texture to items such as the gloves, scarf and shorts. White was used due to its association with purity and browns were used to show a grounded personality.
The staff is good weapon for her since it's not overly violent and is very simple in it's appearance. Going from Kilik's style to Xiba's was obvious and despite his slightly different mannerisms, it still feels appropriate.
Thalas
thalaspose.jpg
When sleep walking isn't a laughing matter.
thalasscream.jpg
The internet reacts to Michael Bay's "new twist" on the Turtles franchise.
thalasprofile.jpg
"Did I leave the stove on...?"
thalasback.jpg
"...no wait, I turned the stove off. Now where is this 'Michael Bay'?"
Bio:
Thalas is a savage shaman with a noble heart. His intimidating appearance belies his more gentle tendencies. Whatever evil forces may have warped his body, his mind is-for the moment- still his.
Thalas' design was one of raw beast like power so Aeon's style was obvious. Big chunky, bulky things that nobody should be able to move around in with the Rambo-I'm not wearing a shirt because I'm that hard-thing. The beak mask was used for a more animal-like facial structure. You know, the kind that can explode at the end of a round?
The Manticore influence came from the face and fighting style: He's a horned, winged lion who breathes fire. It's a good thing. He doesn't have a tail like in the myth, mainly because the tails on offer look stupid and are totally inflexible. I'm holding out for the Nightmare Spine to come back. It's the only part of his SCIV look that didn't make it to SCV and it would perfect here.
And that's that for now. As always, feedback is appreciated!

You're exceptionally good at balancing aesthetics and practicality. I was thinking Game of Thrones even before reading Alundir's bio, which is really well written btw. I eagerly await both your creations and your writing.

Cheers guys!

Moving on we have a spy, a scotsman and something...totally different.

Eva
EvaPose.jpg
"And on your left you will see SCV's epic story. Or not."

Evaclose.jpg
"You know what I like about you? F*** all."
(Penny for whoever gets the reference.)

Evamaskless.jpg
It's also a GREAT bottle opener.

Evahip.jpg
You see this? The pattern on her skirt? Yep...no way you'll notice that in a fight.
Bio:
Eva is an intelligent, elusive and reliable spy who boasts a fox's cunning. Graceful, highly skilled and well trained, she is capable of infiltrating enemy circles with ease before ruthlessly cutting down her target.
Eva's look was about giving her layers while maintaining her mobility since Leixia's style is very athletic. This meant no heavy armour, capes, coats or shoulder pads. Pyrrha's top proved very useful since it dealt with the shoulders while giving a leather mid section.
Moveset wise, she used Xianghua's in SCIV so Leixia's was a no brainer. It also helps that there's no discernible difference between the pair (Xianghua nad Leixia) in terms of character. At all. I've grown to accept some of the mannerisms. As mentioned earlier the style is graceful and acrobatic which fits Eva perfectly.
Lambert
Lambertclose.jpg
It turns out that online dating has its drawbacks...
Lambertswing.jpg
SEVERE drawbacks.
Lambertback.jpg
This is probably when you should have ran away.
Bio:
Lambert is a rough, wild man with a fuse as long as a flea's pleasure lance. Distrusting of courts and politicians, he instead focuses on defending his clan of outcasts from the beasts and savages of the wild.
Lambert is about intimidation. He's huge, covered in animal pelts, face painted to make his eyes pierce and has a suitably outrageous hairstyle (I'm torn between that or Blaze. The braids feel more Soul Caliburish and OTT). Where Alundir wears fur to keep him warm, Lambert wears it to show of how many different beasts he has killed. Practicality was an afterthought.
Siegfried's style was used since he's obviously based on a highland warrior who were famous for using giant swords. It's a powerful looking style which emphasizes his size.
Optimus Prime...wait what?
Primeclose.jpg
"Did somebody say 'TRANSFORMER COSPLAY'!"
Primefull.jpg
"....nobody....?"
Primeaxe.jpg
"...At all? But I brought my axe...it's orange...see?"
Primepose.jpg
"F*** it...Autobots, TROLL OUT!"
Bio:
No.
That's me for now. As usual feedback, critiques, musings or tirades are welcome. Some are more welcome than others, though.

It seems that I've missed most of the fun here, but that doesn't matter now....

I do like most of the recent designs that you've showed so far. There are standouts, of course - especially your version of Optimus Prime that really caught me off guard! o.O

In short, they're ALL impressive to see! Once again, you have my thanks for the inspiration you've shown me. I look forward to seeing more from you.... m(_ _)m

Woah, Lambert looks awesome!
I'm not a fan of the his lower half though - I don't think the blue and green checked pattern fits with the rest of the design, but maybe that's just me.
Look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

It was at this point that Le Bello realised he'd fallen a little bit in love.

Your characters are GENIUS. Your captions are GENIUS. Your introduction was GENIUS. This entire thread is GENIUS.

The word 'genius' now sounds odd to Le Bello. =|:}(

Thalas and Lambert are EASILY Le Bello's favourites. And despite saying easily, it was a difficult choice - all the characters are brimming with character, bubbling with creativity, and boiling(?) with captivating, clutching-at-straws-for-words class! It's immediately apparent who that character is, what they do, how they act and fight. One glance at Thalas and you can see he's a real beast, a man-thing of raw power, with little time for wars of attrition. He clearly gets things done. Speaking of which, how DID you do his torso? What sticker did you use to get that terrific rib-like effect? Is it the bird? It's the bird isn't it? Isn't it the bird? It is. Genius.

Lambert reminds Le Bello of Robb Stark. . . This is no bad thing.

Fliptop, I am simultaneously amazed and humbled by your creations. Here's what I think is most noteworthy in your line-up so far:

Cali
- innovative use of stickers to give her face a worn, grimy look

Miranda
- snakeskin is an interesting texture choice for simulating a wooden texture
- use of beetle horns as branches was a great move, really brought the whole wooden arm thing together

Stahl
- sticker work on the pareo is amazing. i could stare at it the entire battle and lose.

Trish
- zebra pattern on pareo makes it blend well with the absolution robe for an alluring effect.

Thalas
- use of phoenix sticker on skin to change texture is striking and unique. genius.

Optimus Prime
- oh my god, i'm not the only mecha builder on this forum. yes! i'm totally gonna take some of your design methods here and apply them to my gundam.

In general, you just have very solid design fundamentals put to good use. Your color schemes and use of patterns already seem very grounded in reality and your use of stickers brings them to life. Your choice of parts is sound, too. I'd love to see these characters in action, especially Miranda with her wooden arm and MOTHERFUCKING OPTIMUS PRIME HOLY CHRIST. I don't think there's much, if anything, for which I could criticize you. Here's to seeing more of your quality work in the future.

Awesome characters dude, i like every last one of em. I ain't gonna comment about em individually because i don't really care anymore but all of em look very well thought out and it seems u've spent quite some time making them.
I like your sense of humor and the background stories as well, great job.

And yes, Thalas should go and kill Bay for doing this crap to my beloved Turtles.
Teenage Extra-terrestrial Ninja Turtles? Faku Bay, just faku.
