Age of sexual consent... Is pedophilia real or something we made up?

Ephebophilia is laughable - it's the attraction to teenagers ranging from 14-19 and I guarantee most of the world is "afflicted" with this "disorder". Random college-student physically attracted to Miley Cyrus before she turned the "legal" age? Ephebophile. Feeling the hots for that "just turned 18" actor in your porn? Ephebophile. The media promotes it while, at the same time, condemning it.

If that's confusing, yes I'm all for a lower age of consent. Maybe not 14 but 16.

Pedophilia is simply wrong though I don't care to discuss that topic. I will state that people lump Ephebophilia and Pedophilia together far too readily.

Morality had nothing to do with this decision. Besides, it wasn't like I was some older guy trying to take advantage of some young girl who didn't know any better. She came on to me, as and far as I'm concerned, she was obviously experienced enough to know what she was getting into and to know what she wanted.

The plain and simple truth is, age is just a number. Some people mature faster than others, both mentally and physically. Believe me when I tell you guys that she had a body and an attitude that went far beyond her years.

Needless to say, the experience still made me feel like a pervert. I told my friends and family about the experience, and not one of them judged me for being sexually attracted to a 12 year old girl.

Basically, if I lived in a different country where this kind of thing was allowed, I wouldn't have hesitated. Jail was the only reason I walked away.

At any rate, I personally think that someone should have to get a license to have sex. To get that license, they have to be at least 14, and they have to prove that they understand the risks of sexual intercourse (STDs, pregnancy etc.) If they show an adequate understanding, they get the license. Having sex with someone who doesn't have one would be considered statutory rape.

Yes, I realise how totally impractical that idea is.

Anyway, the way I see it is that the age of consent is just a blanket-age enforced because you can't create laws on a case-by-case basis. It's all about the maturity of the person involved - Some are more mature at age 14 than others, it's a simple fact.

Whilst I think 14 as a legal age would generally be a bit young, I think it's ultimately down to the individual. I've been sexually active since I was 10, and with people far older than myself, and at the time I thought it was great. Look at how adult I am! Look at me, getting laid! Looking back I just think of how much of a dumb fucking tool I was.

The argument that "if both parties are consenting, then it should be OK" is the slipperiest slope. How can you prove you both know what you're truly getting into? The general answer is that you can't. I've had the conversation many times before, and a lot of people say that, after their first sexual encounter, they feel different - As though they've lost something.

Now, I'm not cheesy enough to say "Your first time should be special", but I do think it should be without regrets, which is why I think the age-of-consent law is fine as it is, it's made to act as a deterrent rather than a punishment - if you're going to have sex with someone below that age, then you're aware you're doing so. You know that if this person suddenly doesn't feel so great about it, you'll be in the wrong, so you'd best make damn well certain that it's what you both want, and that you both know what you're doing.

At the end of the day, whether you yourself are under-age, or want to bang someone who is, then you and they need to take every single precaution to make sure you're both fully aware not just of the actions, but all the consequences, both mental and physical. If you can do that, then you have Le Bello's blessing.
 
When I was 14 (two years ago) I messed around with a guy about twice my age. I wasn't taken advantage of in the least, I was competent enough to know it would probably be frowned upon, and I still did it. But I was very mature for my age at 14, more so than most of my peers, so maybe that is a bit young. Id say it should be 16, because if you still aren't smart enough to make decisions like that yet, you probably won't be at 18 either.
 
It should stay at 18 in my opinion. Even at 18 people tend to think with their emotions rather than their brain and it's even worse at earlier ages. 16 isn't good because at 16 everyone is an insecure emotional wreck that can't even think properly.
 
15-16 age of consent is fine, at that age she's a young woman

If the girl is being taken advantage of then jail time and a registry maybe. But if a girl's going to have a dick in her one way or another I don't think any one should go to prison for it. I guess, if she's already given it up to most of her middle-school, why worry about one old penis in her when there's been a hundred young ones? Maybe there should be some penis age ratio. It's okay to bang one old guy but not until you've banged at least eight peers. :)
 
The way I see it is, the line is a matter of being able to form a coherent value of consequence... that's what separates the ability to give consent in my mind.

The law however, needs a black and white standard because that value of consequence can range from 12-never in a lifetime. Most of the girls I met in college didn't have a grasp on it, which is probably why the sex was so good/hilarious. The temptation of someone coming onto you with such zeal that you *know* they can't possibly frame the entire situation is intoxicating as it is disgusting.

On the other hand. If Someone was trying to touch my 15 year old daughter (thank god shes only 9), Id go on a murderous rampage trying to find sharp things to shove in various dark places in his body. Rather she is coherent enough to make that decision or not. Cause in my mind she will NEVER be!!

I disagree about the black and white part. Enough teens have already been labeled pedophiles for sleeping with other teens, it's just not good. There should definitely be laws protecting minors from exploitation, but they need to not also harm dumb kids just being dumb kids. Just...y'know, common sense and fairness. I brought up the Marcus Dixon case before because it was part of a major problem associated with these kinds of laws being enforced without any sort of gray area, one of several high-profile cases at the time. The laws had to be changed because they were too black and white, the only way to enforce them meant that someone who only became a major even day before a minor and had sex with them receives the same punishment as a real pedophile. And that's exactly what happened. Dixon and others that were just barely age of majority are still registered sex offenders, due to the nature of things it would likely take federal rulings to give them the right to move anywhere and not introduce themselves to their new neighbors with "hi, I'm a sex offender" for the rest of their lives. When the laws meant to protect can do as much damage as what they're intended to protect from, we have a problem.
 
In my state you can be put on the sex-offenders list for peeing outside. It doesn't really effect women so much. Though I did see a nasty bitch peeing (maybe #2, I didn't look close) into a storm drain on a main thoroughfare.
