DARK SOULS 2- Praise the sun

I just finished my first gamethrough and I just can't believe that was the final boss.

I lost count of how many times the spider killed me, I struggled through the memory of giant, I almost throw the controller to my TV thanks to "The rotten" absurderly broken hitbox, the sinner made me make my first and last co-op summon for a boss, knights gone extinct in Iron Keep thanks to my runs to Smeleter demon. Chariot's skeletons were a damn pain in the ass. Even Vendrick as easy as he is took me some attempts until I learned you just have to round him as any armor knight and still after that I was killed a couple of times more due to being caressly (he 1 hit kills me).

Suddenly I reach the final boss expecting something that would make me cry and...first boss is a couple of giant armor (pretty original, especially at this point) both died in a single fire tempest. Then the "final" boss...it cost me 3-4 spells.
Don't know may be is a nightmare for melee, but...I'm not even a pure mage build and took me 4 spells.

Just one of those dragon knights in dragon shirne are more dangerous. Even the witches on amana or the hipoppotamus are lot more tougher than that hing. Really dissapointed with this anticlimatic end.

What were they thinking.

That's pyromancy for you.
Flame Swathe and all of the Tempest spells are outright broken in PvE. This is what happens when you focus too much on PvP balancing though... Swathe isn't going to hit anybody who knows what it is, and while Tempest and the like may at least create some space against melee only characters, you're very vulnerable to any ranged attacks up to and including Flame Swathe itself... so I guess they thought they need the damage to compensate otherwise Pyromancers have nothing, but then they're killing bosses in under 15 seconds without risk or thought.
Then again, they don't seem to care that WotG is the only reason for a faith build to have over 10 FTH in PvP so what do I know?

I don't know how you struggled with any other boss though. 2 Swathes and just a little finishing off is all things seemed to need for my pyromancer.
The last boss still isn't very impressive without though. She's easy to dodge so all you have to do is heal in the right places, or you can even wait until the curse points wear off.

I'm still hoping for a super-hidden alternate ending but... it's been a while now.

Well, flame swathe make me rape some bosses indeed, but there were lot of them that using pyromancies was more dangerous tan doing normal attacks. The bell guardian, Vendrick, the rotten, yeah, I took half his life with 2 shots but lot of times after one shot they were already in front of me swinging their insane weapons. Is not always to start a dps battle with someone that can kill you in one swing. I found lot of bosses "easier" by using melee even when I had piromancies, since doing the spell the wrong momento was instant death

But in nashara's case, she just stays away from you shooting slow beams, so you can throw your spells without problema. With other bosses the very second you try to throw an spell you already have the boss making a gap closer.

Eh, when I did The Rotten on my pyromancer I just stuck behind him like I do with every character, only this time I'd do 1/4 of it's health with Flame Swathe instead of 1/10 with 3 or so melee hits.
The Rotten is a very roll-centric boss and well... a single Flame Swathe does more damage with less time spent vulnerable than anything... It would be like Viola 6B+K if that did 90 damage on it's own.

Finished the game, level 153, 12 million Soul Level. Whew.

Decided to farm the final boss for a few extra cool items, kinda surprised throne defender and watcher came back for that fight. So I now have all the Want items. It's pretty cool to have a bow shooting lightning bolts.

Unfortunately, I have no Petrified Dragon bones left to build these weapons up. But aside from the chime (which seems like a gimme), anyone have any opinions on the other weapons? Seems like there's some to SoW's two-handed R2.

Seems like there's some to SoW's two-handed R2.
Scythe of Wants 2-handed R2 is the worst attack in the entire Reaper moveset, and it doesn't get much worse than that.

So, the patch is out, and I can't buff Moonlight Greatsword, which means that this:
  • Throwing motion for Acid Urns changed to heavy throwing motion; effects of acid toned down.

  • Durability of Twin Blade category improved.

  • Moonlight Great Sword revised to be non-enchantable, attack speed reduced.

  • Gyrm Warrior’s Greathelm weight, poise and defense increased.

  • Ring of Thorns damage reduced.

  • Old Sun Ring damage reduced.

  • Soul Spear and Crystal Soul Spear revised to pierce and damage multiple enemies.

  • Soul Great Sword casting time revised.

  • Stamina reduction (on enemy) of Homing Soul Mass, Homing Crystal Soul Mass and Affinity reduced and bullet speed increased.

  • Soul Geyser damage reduced.

  • Healing spell casting speed adjusted to be slower.

  • Wrath of God damage effect period shortened.

  • Firestorm, Fire Tempest, Chaos Storm, Flame Swathe and Forbidden Sun damages reduced.

  • Firestorm, Fire Tempest and Chaos Storm duration time increased.

  • Defense of Lucatiel, Bellclaire, Benhart and Tark increased.

  • Health of exploding undead reduced.

  • Homing capability of spells casted by White Undead Sorcers and Amana Priestesses reduced.

  • Fire ball spitting frequency of Fire Lizards reduced.

  • Shockwave duration period caused by the attacks of Hammer Wielders (probably ones in Earthen Peak?) reduced.

  • Last Giant damage reduced.

  • Lost Sinner health and damage reduced.

  • Royal Rat Authority damage reduced.

  • Duke’s Dear Freja’s laser breath damage reduced.

  • NG+ Lost Sinner pyromancers health and damage reduced.

  • NG+ Flexile Sentry shadow assassins health and damage reduced.
Translations are done by me, and I work as a translator. I'm confident in my work.

Edit: Healing spell casting is adjusted to be slower. Thank you for pointing out.

Edit 2: Apparently "Online Regulation" is called "Calibration" in English. So this note is for Calibration v1.04

Edit 3: Wrath of God revision seems to be confusing some people. It means that the amount of time that counts as damage inflicted is reduced, meaning that the frames for which WoG is effective is reduced. Basically you can probably roll through it more effectively now.

is all true.

Why would they make it easier?
This is Dark Souls... the people who find it hard we're expecting it to be hard. And poor Shrine of Amana... those bolts could already be avoided easily just by stepping to the side at the right time.

Luckily I got my Lucatiel achievement (and The Dark Soul :D) yesterday, so I got what I'm going to be calling "The True Lucatiel Experience". I had to get her to fall off of a platform so she couldn't enter the Smelter Demon's boss room... on my healer!

Edit: Hahaha!
They've not reduced the casting time of healing spells, they've actually made healing spells cast in slow motion! xD
Are you kidding me!?

And Soul Greatsword is indeed a little faster.

The Rotten was the boss that took me more time in all the game. Don't know what happened, since everyone says is an easy boss, but when I fought him the mechanic was easy, just roll to the left except when he does the reverse swing were you have to roll to the right. Still, he managed to hit me I don't even know how, he even hit me twice with his vertical strik when I was on his back

This is not the true experience, sir. Of course I got it without the Smelter so I can't really judge :P

I did, however, lock myself out of Forbidden Sun. Honestly if you put a sign saying "Don't pull this lever" and no explanation, I'M GON PULL LEVER.

Oh well, NG+ it is. I need to get through to at least N++ anyway so, hey ho.

EXACTLY!!! xD

That gif is perfect.

My friend a while ago posted on FB that he "pulled the lever" with no context. Today I understood, phoned him and simply said "I pulled the lever".

Ten minutes silence then I hung up. We're dramatic.
I pulled the lever on my first character too. I just went that way first, but I don't think his dialogue would've stopped me anyway.

I did instantly regret it though, but because the amazing music/sound effect that the door makes stopped, not because of Navlaan. That noise in combination with the rattling of the wagons makes a pretty good minimal track on it's own... I can sit and listen to it for quite a while as it is now, with a little progression added, I'd really, really like it.

On the Smelter Demon thing... I just did all 4 for safety's sake. She disappears when you speak to her at Aldi, and I couldn't remember whether it was her or Behrnrhahrtt who needed all their available summons.

Reminding me to go BA on the Prowling since I didn't realise it was a Bennyboy fight. Because seriously it's easy as dick.

More on Dark Souls 2 PvP with JBlackmel

I got about 8 minutes into the video and had to stop. All it is him whining about people disagreeing with him because a new game brought about changes in the system mechanics he didn't agree with.

It's funny because he addresses the people who say he's a "whiner" although I suppose out of context I could see how you might misunderstand. He uploaded some solid videos which showed that there is a flaw with the scaling system of Dark Souls 2 and naturally people are going to disagree, so he made this to address those people as well as back up the things he found in the other videos he uploaded. He brings up valid points so I thought I'd share them here.

I actually twigged that early on when I realised you can't rate them. It just made me want to pull it more...

Guys can you re-enter Memory of J after beating it's boss? I missed a certain item and am not in a position to test right now - Though I heard you can go back into the Memory of V so, I'd imagine so?

so i decided to finally start doing some blue invasions with my NG+ fath/str guy. went pretty well surprisingly! not only did i actually get to invade, i also won a good portion (maybe 70~75%) of my games and only 1 ragequit. still have not gotten the stupid ring to work though =/
