SCV Connection problems--is it just me? Can I get assistance please?

Hey, for the last few months whenever I boot up SCV (360) I find it hard to connect to people. The reason I've been seeing is that it shows everyone as having 0 bar connections. I've owned the game since it was released, and this wasn't a problem I experienced until a few months ago.

Now, on top of that, I played the game for the first time in about two months two days ago, and the connections were fine that day, to my surprise, but yesterday and today they're back to appearing as 0 bars.

This issue is only affecting Soul Calibur V--all of my other games are working fine.

So, I'm wondering, is this a problem anyone else has experienced/is experiencing this problem, and does anyone know of any way to fix it? Soul Calibur V is one of my favorite games, and I hope to be playing it regularly again.

Thanks, Spazzmatica

When it is a zero bar connection, it means that the strength of the connection is unknown. It doesn't mean ultimate lag fest. Connection issues have plagued many players' fun and it's often hard to tell what is causing it, although if you insist that it is happening just in Soulcalibur V then perhaps Namco's servers are having problems.

Well, due to the issue, I can only search for people by setting options to find people with "any connection", and it becomes much more time consuming to find a match (easily taking fifteen minutes on a bad day, and if I'm that diligent), suggesting that I'm even able to, and more often then not, the connection isn't that great. In fact, it makes it seem like a collaborative four people beyond me are even playing the game (in all game modes combined).

I can say, without a doubt, that it's only my Soul Calibur V game, and that every other game plays fine, and to rule out a few things, I always use a wired connection.

Then it is likely to be Namco's servers having problems (or perhaps all the other players have bad connections), there's not much else you can do unfortunately.

The SCV servers are a bad joke. Love the game, hate the servers.

It severely helps to run on 100+MB/sec internet speed, but really, are you going to pay $120+ a month just to play SCV and still occasionally experience disconnections? Probably not. Your best bet is to find players who live in your area. At least your country, but that doesn't guarantee it will be good, and sometimes even same-country players have bad connections.

Another thing that helps is to turn wireless off on anything that could be running in the background. Leptons, iPods, phones, handheld consoles, etc.

In case you didn't know, the 2D fighting games such as Persona Arena as well as BlazBlue and King of Fighter games. Because they are 2d cartoon fighters, they tend to have really good server quality because of less content going on the screen.

As everyone else says, I hope they severely improve on SCVI's servers.

0 bars does not necessarily mean the connection strength is unknown; the connection strength is just hidden. A 0 bar is usually the result of being behind a firewall that hides your true connection strength. You're most likely being tricked into thinking you are experiencing more lag than before. This is because you are playing players with weaker connections whereas you could distinguish and avoid playing them in the past.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that another reason you are having a shitty experience on ranked is not because your connection got weaker, but because most people select "4 bars+" under their search options. Since you are a 0 bar, you do not show up, even if you otherwise could have had a perfect connection with them! This results in you only finding other players who have selected "Any Connection" under their search options (Usually these are the players who are desperate to find a match because of their weaker connections.)
Hope this helped!

Since it is hidden you don't know what it is, hence it is "unknown". fgt.

Maybe someone mentioned it before but the best thing you can do is portforwarding. I'm no expert on such things but you have to open the homepage of your router and then open the gates you need for xbox360/ps3 online play. It usually ends up in showing your "real" connection, 3 instead of 0 for example which makes finding online players in ranked matches much easier of course. I could search for the needed gates if you can't find them in the net. I'm also not sure if it works with any router though...

It's not unknown to the game, otherwise it would never be able to display your bars, even if you aren't behind a firewall.
