When/why did you decide to "git gud"?

I played SoulCalibur IV very lazily, I made no effort to use any of the mechanics and I had fun stomping newbies with Cervantes' move where he slams down from the air (4B+K was it?) I got my ass handed to me by a Rock player and I thought his moveset was really cool, so I went to training mode and learned his combos and moves through YouTube and mimicking the player who Rocked me socks off. I got pretty good and a consistent 50% winrate, something I was totally satisfied with and when I got bored with Rock I'd play Yoshimitsu. I had ditched the Cervantes' noobtrap spam and was becoming an averagely okay player.
Then I got SoulCalibur V. This is about the time I decided to "git gud." I was disappointed that Rock wasn't in this release so I got my ass handed to me the first couple of weeks while I was trying to find who I was comfy with, then I realized I was looking past the solution the whole time. :sc5ast1: Ever since, I've fallen in waifu love with Astaroth and he's gotten me a good winrate over Xbox LIVE (70%-80% range) thusfar. I feel confident enough to fight almost anyone who isn't crazy tournament level pro with him. I offmain Yoshimitsu still, he's a great character. He actually got me placed in 7th for the global leaderboards in Legendary Souls in 2012-2013 I think.

tl;dr: I was balls until I mained Rock in SCIV, then I got into Astaroth in SCV and I got gud

I have a replay saved of me beating your Asta haha. I remember I made some really solid reads and reactions on your asta so I saved it cuz I felt cool

I wanna get better, as in to be able to play at a tournament... But I don't know HOOOW! T_T All I got is the online play. There are no others in my backwater country who play scV.

we got a tourney going on in England...here's your chance if you can make it

England is too far from Serbia bro
true, but as Maedhros has stated, he can't play at tourneys because there's no one else that plays SCV in Serbia, the only way he'll get what he needs is to travel...we've got a tourney coming up so I've offered that to him, I think NEC is a couple months away with a few other events...take your pick

Going offline can be a pretty big financial commitment, more to some than others. If you want to go offline (and I recommend that you do, it's totally worth it) find out where you want to go and how much you need.

Playing offline is worth it unless god Blueboy is in it. He'll 3-0 everyone and win all the money matches.

I wouldn't want to get exposed either ):

I remember it as if it were yesterday.
Back in the days of Soul Calibur 4 when I didn't know what online was. I was kinda curious to see how playing other people was going to be. (Of course, I had no idea that people would be abusing lag tactics to the max.)

I was still kind of ignorant to what frame data and reading your opponent was at the time.
But then everything changed when the fire nation at- I mean when I started play SCv.

Despite SCV getting simplified to the freaking brim of its bones. It helped me learn all those things about Fighting games in general. Heck, I would even go as far as to say I've improved since then. Now I'm at least a decent player who can guage their situations based on experience instead of playing dress up and complaining about "oh you're a one styler" "spam this spam that" etc.

Back during the online days of SCIV I decided I wanted to be good. I went to a local tourney and got second then went to another local and got 9th or some shit. It was when DEV2k11 came around that I decided I wanted to be an offline tournament player. The rest is history.

STORY TIME

About 3 years ago me and my mate were just relaxing in my living room one weekend and we couldn't decide what to play. We rifled through my collection of X-box Classic games and tried out a few, deciding that we enjoyed Soul Calibur II as a fun weekend novelty. 3 weeks later we had exhausted the Weapon Master mode (Except for THAT section) and had decided our mains. Over the holiday season I picked up Soulcalibur IV from Hastings and I borrowed SCV from a friend for a few months. Roughly a year ago, I was able to pick up a copy of SCV for really cheap, and I've been in love with it since I picked it up. And it is one of the only fighting games that my friends will play, so they willingly fight me. Over time, since I was the only one who owned it, a lot of bored evenings smoking pot and gaming turned me into a bit of a fighting game basement dweller.

I am extremely proud to say that I turned my girlfriend into a fan of the series as well! She mains Leixia.

I was just a casual who play like 5 or more characters at the same time without learning any of them properly. That was till SCV came out and picked Raphael as my main, mostly because of dat hat. Then I had no choice to learn him properly or my ass will be kicked in every match. So thanks "low tier" raph for forcing me to learn the game. :sc5rap1:

When Soul Calibur 4 came out, I was surprised about the fact that online was even a thing in a 1v1 fighting game...So I thought "hey maybe I could get good and beat down everyone", soooo....I did. But NOW, all that's behind me, for I am partaking in something called, LIFE.
