I'm reading a few things for school right now. Ever read Life of Pi by Yann Martel? Riveting novel. Or possibly The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Cambell? I'm finding the latter already speaking volumes to me, I thought it would be really boring, but it's an analyzation of mythology and how it really is the same characters and same stories.
It's really good. Some of the supporting cast is...lacking. But there are some amazing, great characters. It's set 70 years after the first series and Korra, the new Southern Water Tribe Avatar, goes to Republic City: a crossroads between the nations where the cultures blend and become a new one, all its own.
Zuko hasn't been in it yet. A relative of his has, but not until the end of Season 1. Lin (Toph's daughter) is probably the character I liked the most, followed by Tenzin (Aang's son) and Korra. I do like this somewhat peripheral character, Asami, but she is a bit like a female Zuko in terms of personality. She did, at the very least, make me root for her eventually.
Also, Toph made metalbending a standard when people join the Republic City police force. The police are usually referred to as "Metalbending police" and Lin (who is chief of police) usually calls them her metalbenders. I really hope we get to see Ba Sing Se and the Fire Nation again because the Southern Water Tribe has been shown and it's grown quite a lot with Katara as Gran Gran #2.
