Ok but you can do JF twisters reliably on stick? Cus on xbox pad u cant do the slide input reliably when pressing light.

As it happens, Twister is supposedly easier on pad - ask Cheeseoftheday why, he could tell you, I just don't trust Xbox pad for anything else so I play stick anyway, haha. Twister, like anything else is easy to do consistently when you've been in trining mode for long enough.
  3. b4k4 [06] Combatant

I'm about 95% with them. Miss them occasionally, but doing 10 in a row is no problem.

    I'd say I'm the same.

Do you mean JF twist is supposedly easier on Xbox pad? That move is the sole reason I need a stick! Normal twisters are probably easier on pad cus it's fast, but the 2143 on right sided twisters is difficult on xbox pad analog after your thumb gets a little sore then u have to do right sided twisters on dpad which is not easy like left sided analog 2143's are. I suppose that wont be a problem on stick

Again - supposedly easier on pad. Don't know why, heh.

Im training on Stick a lot these days.

Its annoying when you play worse on stick than on pad, but JF Umbrella etc is really all possible. Its just the beginning which may be frustrating.

Im doing Slide Inputs on Stick, JF Umbrella is quite easy then. Just slide fast as fuck over aB with my index finger.

Also for agB you can set up the lower row of your stick, which is quit cheap and then just slide over them, or there is a technique which you can see on this video. Also works well for me, but needs some training.

I play these heavy execution characters since a lot of years now and in the long run stick is just better IF YOU GO TO TOURNAMENTS. If not just play what is more fun to you imo.

Right now I, Obi and Maxou we all use the SF Mad Catz Pad, but i see PS3 tournaments popping up which i can not attend to with this pad...also what when they break? They get harder to rebuy....

So if you think about pad or stick ...in the long term, go for stick. Its annoying in the beginning, but pays off. Othwerise everytime your pad breaks on a tournament, you are fucked.

Have you played anything on a stick before?

I have won a Hori SCV stick in the Impact tournament, I wanted to play on AS before but I fear it will takes ages before I get good at it (like with pad). You pretty much have to re-learn everything, inputs, movement etc it takes a lot of time.
  8. docvizzo [12] Conqueror

Nope, i learn from scratch basically. Played a bit around in SC4 already....but its going well..only 236 from 1P makes trouble, 99 Inputs etc...

But sure it takes weeks :P

    Stick vs. Pad:

There are obviously players on both sides of this equation. However, I can promise you that, once you get past the learning curve of initially transitioning from stick to pad, you will never doubt your decision to start playing on stick. I have no idea how Alpha players even manage to execute the B+K, 62B, 44B+K/33A+B on pad. o_O

This is exactly how I do ag:B. My stick's button layout is:

    A B K X*
    G A G B

    X* = Unassigned.

Doing ag:B on just the default layout is really awkward. I can agB 100%, but ag:B is another story. I only ever touch the "AGB" portion of the bottom row for ag:B inputs.

    It's super effective!

    ag:B, ag:B, 2A BE, JF Twister.

They can tech out if I 8A+BB after the 2A BE in that, yeah?

    IN WHOLLY UNRELATED NEWS:

214B+G, JF Twister, JF Twister... this combo is the bane of my fucking life. I can get the throw into Twister most of the time, but I have a really hard time hitting the "sweet spot" window where the Twister knocks down (thus setting up the second twister) instead of just OTGing. I'm not having an issue with inputs or the JF. I'm just having an issue consistently finding what looks like it's only a 1-3 frame window.

    Any tips?
  10. Synraii [14] Master

To get the correct knockdown on 214B+G JF Twister JF Twister, you need to have fired your first twister BEFORE he sheathes from the throw, don't try and time it for as he sheathes, do it earlier.

    Also, my stick setup:

    A B K X
    G X X X

    X = Unassigned

    Oldschool. =)

Check this tasty morsel of anti Natsu:

AAB on block is as we all know Twister punishable. But the final hit of AAB (hit number 5) can be JG'd on reaction and in this case it is -22 on block and punishable by 2143A+B!
Yay for no meter 100+ dmg punishment!

Don't know if this has been covered earlier in the thread or not, but does anyone have any tips on performing agB from a 360 controller? aPat's the first character I've trained in the Soul series that has an ag input and I don't usually have access to a stick, so I train with the controller.

On a side note, I've preferred d-pads for fighting games, and I'd have to say that the extendable d-pad on the silver LE xbox 360 controller has been a major improvement from the earlier ones. I've been able to get some good consistency on JF twisters with the pad.

Hey, guys. I've been working with a few characters as I'm looking for a new main, and I've had been considering trying out A Pat to see if he would suit my play style well. What would be my first steps in using him?

Is Patsuka really gonna be Top Tier?
  16. b4k4 [06] Combatant

Yeah I didn't have a lot of time to work on it last night, but was getting more consistent with it. There are two important timings involved here:

    1./ Starting your movement buffer.
    2./ Doing the a:B input.

I find I have the best results when I start step 1./ right after he pulls his sword out of their chest, and input step 2./ just before the sword makes its way back into the sheath.

You need to master his "essential" just frames.

If you cannot do 2143a:B (otherwise known as JF Twister, or JF Umbrella) on command, you cannot play Alpha. This move is 100% mandatory to playing the character. Learning his 1B:B and 2143B:B JFs are also very important. 1A: A: A is a little easier to get away without knowing, ditto for ag:B and BT B+K:B.

I'm not kidding though: don't bother playing this character unless you are down to master his set of just frames. They are completely essential to his game. The first step to learning Alpha is grinding JF Twisters until you can do 10 in a row without dropping them. If you can get there, you're golden.

I'm tempted not to answer this for a number of reasons. Alpha is very strong on paper. One of the strongest in the game. His tools are all relatively safe, he's got good evasive options, and he has not just one, but the two best punishes in the game (JF Twister, and his CE).

That all being said, he also has a pronounced weakness to step at mid-range or farther. This might not sound like much, but a savvy opponent can makes themselves very hard for an Alpha to hit. Alpha can punish mistakes super hard, but if you have an opponent who is legitimately solid, and doesn't make defensive blunders, then it can become difficult to open them up. In this regard, his throws are one of his most important tools (it also helps that, next to Astaroth, Alpha has the most threatening throws in the game). Again, however, his throws have very short range compared to other characters, making it difficult to get in range to use them.

Alpha's main weaknesses are being linear, and having difficulty dealing with strong zoning/spacing games. The first point is universally recognized, the second is my own intuition after playing him for a while.

That all being said, he is still very solid. On paper, I'd say top 5.

I'm also trying to pick aPat up, he seems like fun. I've got a couple of questions.

    1. Are you guys using a stick or controller? I can't get the normal Twister out consistently, let alone the JF version. It always ends up being his WR A.

    2. When in the animation do you press his just frames for 1B:B, 1A:A:A, 2143 B:B. I can only do 1B:B like 10% of the time, I've only pulled off the third hit of 1A:A:A once and let's not even speak about 2143B:B's 2nd hit.

    3. Do you map your controller differently, if you are using one? I usually have A+B on my L2 button, but when I try to do 8A+B B he either only does the jump or he does his auto-GI move instead.

Sorry for all the noobish questions, but I'd like to at least get the basics down before I do any insane 100 damage combos.

Myself and B4K4 play stick, Docvizzo and Maxou used SF4 fightpads in SCIV, LP and Bushindu used straight pad. Whatever you're comfortable with man. If you keep getting WS A, you're pressing a:B too early, go from 4 to 3 first.

A little cofused here, but if you mean do you tap the just as the move connects, then yes. The cure to poor consistency is practice mode.
Whatever you as a player are comfortable with.
