What are the best wired controller alternatives aside from an arcade stick or a PS2 controller converter? Any good wired third party controllers that feel similar to the wireless PS3 controller?

What if I remove the battery from my PS3 controller so that it can only work if connected by a USB cable?

Me and Cedric tried these out at SCR and I absolutely LOVE these!
The pads are so smooth and respond perfectly when trying to do 236 and 214.
These are awesome IMO because you can switch out the pads/joysticks with the 360 ones if you prefer that pad instead, and the middle part is like a magnet, so there's no damage on the pads themselves when switching stuff around to customize it to your liking. I already pre-ordered mine on Amazon for the 360, since it's the only one available ATM, but I plan to get the PS3 one as well and switch the Dpad. ;)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0063BCQ1Q/ref=nosim/cheapassgam08-20

PS: They run for $100 a pop and the separate Dpads and Joysticks(PS3/360) are $5 - $10 according to the MadCatz guys that were there.
PSS: Will be available sometime this month!

I'm going to make a video about this. Who do I have to ask to get it on front page? It's kind of important.

Edit: And I'm going. Mom is cool with it. I also got a godlike plan for the hotel too.

They won't allow a modded dualshock.

Wiz (I think) said something about a wired MadCatz controller that is decent. There are options out there--just not sure of the quality, so you may want to experiment now and find one you like.

What the hell? Why not? It's just a dual shock with a battery removed. That would make so many players lives easier if they allowed that. I don't get what harm that would do to the tournament.

There's nothing else that feels like a PS3 controller in my opinion. Plus how would they be able to check to see if you removed the battery from your wireless controller in a timely manner? Compound that with the thousands of people who will be at the event.

You still have plenty of time to use an alternative, which you are going to have to do if you plan on competing at EVO.

Might want to try MadCatz' MLG controller.

I think $100 is a little steep for a controller... i think the best and cheapest alternative would be a dualshock 2 with an inpin converter. Inpin converter's do not have any lag and is regarded as the best ps2 to ps3 converter since the pelican is discontinued. You can get them from laugh's site etokki.com

I'm also testing out the Hori Fighting Commander 3 Pro. Will let people in the norcal scene test it if they want. Seems to be pretty solid so far.

No offense, but I doubt that whatever you have to say is important enough to be on the front page. As it is now, whatever is on the front page effectively represents the entire Soul Calibur community. Posting your video to the media section and/or making your own thread about it should be just fine.

With that said, SCV at EVO 2k12 GET HYPE!

I'll have to look into what kind of controller I'll be using too, it all depends on how the CE input works for me on pad.

People spend $150 on arcade sticks, why not $100 on a great controller?

Plus for someone who doesn't have a DualShock 2, they will need to spend $20-25 to get one, plus $23 for that converter, plus $18-20 for shipping. I rather spend a little more money and not have to deal with a converter.

But there's several options that someone can do if they plan on competing at EVO, and compared to the amount of money that someone is going to spend at EVO, I don't think spending $100 is steep.

Well with half a year's prep I will hopefully be able to save up enough to be able to make it to EVO my only problem may be if my boss doesn't allow me to take off (which is unlikely since I've been taking the first 2 weeks of July off for 2 years now for vacation time).

The only other problem I foresee possibly cropping up is if I can't find other people to go with as I currently lack a car. Never really gone to an event of this magnitude before. Been to a few local tournaments in Phoenix, AZ but nothing major. But fuck I want to support the community so I'm going to try my damn hardest to be at EVO.

A few questions though when is a good time to reserve and how long can you wait before reserving? Is it something that should be done immediately or something that can wait a bit? (want to wait to see if I can find people to go with after the game is released). help is appreciated...not sure if there is a thread for this thing or not.

edit: also what is the expected cost for an event of this magnitude...want to make sure I have enough.

Hmmmm, so apparently Justin Wong is hype about SC5 and wants to play it. We should make sure to welcome him correctly hehehehehe

People shouldn't be hating on CY for being trying to be productive. I understand that he says some dumb shit from time to time (Hell, most people do), but, if he's trying to do some good and it is, indeed, good, let him be. Said it before, this community needs more people with talent (and less I-don't-want-to-support-the-community-by-going-to-tournaments-but-want-to-bitch-about-everything'ers).

To answer the question, I don't know who you should talk to, but, I imagine Malice might be able to help you, CY.

Hah, if it goes anything like how it went for KOF13, I'm not too worried. Just teach him the game, see how he likes it
