I apologize for the lack of video, and I will have one up soon, but this is something that's recreatable in Training Mode quite easily if you'd like to see it yourself.

When most characters Just Guard something, they move backwards a small amount. This is negligbly small for some characters, and fairly significant for some characters. To see an extreme example of this - that is, what happens when you do 19 consecutive Just Guards - go into Training Mode and set the computer to do Elysium's CE, and then Just Guard it. You'll be moved back quite a distance, the specific amount depending on the character.

What does this mean in practice? Depending on the character and distance at which you Just Guard a move, you may actually move out of punishment range for Just Guarding. In the case of Elysium, it also means that you may actually be moved out of punishment range depending on your chararacter, and the meter gain on Just Guard is fairly meager. In more practical terms, this means that you may not be able to punish certain moves on Just Guard - for example, Raphael SE B, Siegfried 6B, Astaroth 22B - if you're using a character that suffers a comparitively large push-back on Just Guard, because you'll be pushed out of punishment range.

Realistically, I don't see this being a huge problem at any point in the meta-game, even though it's hard to comment on what will and won't be effective in the future as people's strategies and skill level marches on. At best, I see this information as an explanation for one off situations people have where they whiff their punishment post Just Guard because they were too far away.

Results below indicate distance moved backwards after Just Guarding Elysium's entire CE, and are approximate measurements. 1 character distances is defined as the space that Siegfried can occupy with his neutral hitbox.

seeing astaroth as the highest is surprising stuff.

You'd think it was mass related.. such as when you run two characters towards each other and see who actually moves
