Shit IdleMind says that pisses you off

Even though he should (and won't) be banned threads like these are what trolls crave. He's gonna pop one off when he goes to "What's New" and sees a whole topic devoted to him.

I guess I'm more used to TeamLiquid where moderation is more heavy-handed. People complained, and still do, but now I see that most topics aren't completely derailed by a single successful troll. The quality and discussion really shoots down.

Also, the bad tampon joke got old after the second post. Some people seem just as butthurt that we hold negative views on him.

He is blunt and condescending most of the time but I respect his honesty (Even though he keeps saying mean things about Talim) and the fact that he doesn't really care about how ppl think of him. I'm quite neutral about this whole thing but all in all, I don't think he deserves to be banned or anything.

Thing is - Idle is hardly a troll. As I said before, he's simply abrasive.

If you sit down and read through what he posts, ignoring any insult or not-so-nice words he may have used, it generally makes a lot of sense.

People don't respond well to abrasive behavior though. While you may blame him for derailing threads, generally the threads derail more because people will post back, "Why are you being so mean? You're a dick and you're retarded and wrong." And Idlemind loves to poke fun at people who call him wrong. Because generally - he isn't.

And while I may seem like a total Idle fanboy right now, I'm really not. As I said, I've disagreed with him on several things, and by no means do I think he's right about everything.

I like watching insecure people rage sometimes. People who can't handle being told things in plain English are endlessly entertaining, and even if he did nothing else I think we should keep Idle around for that.

I think it's worth noting that during what was I think my FIRST WEEK at 8wayrun, Idle had called me an idiot.

It wasn't until later that I realized that what I had said, really was kind of stupid.

So people keep saying he's not a troll. He's just honest and blunt.

In the MLG review thread he accused Alex of spewing propaganda without any sort of proof.

Not being a troll, right? He's just saying the truth (slander).

I have seen a fair amount of his posts, he is someone who I think knows what he is talking about and isn't afraid of being blunt with his opinions. I don't think there is anything wrong with that, like people have said if it bothers you that much just use the ignore member function.

There is a VERY fine line between simply "being abrasive" and being a troll IMHO. The guy IS indeed a dick. Its the reason I stopped modding the online forum. It was simply put to me that "I made you a mod to shut you up".

Abrasivness is fine and dandy. I can be abrasive myself. But I find it irratating that the split second Im "abrassive" I get a fist up my ass. as to where the same rules dont apply to all.

I grow tired of the little "clicks" around here. And the general hypocracy the follows. Do I think Idle should be banned....prolly not, thats pretty extreme. But why is no one up his ass for being "abrasive" to the CaS, Story mode or other fanboys that I may have missed.

No, there isn't.

An abrasive individual states facts or opinions. If you can't control your reaction enough to choose to ignore or consider the item.... that's on you. The escalation to troll status only starts when everyone else can't stop. A troll is quite different in that they are intentionally attempting to cause you to react.

Cliques.

Which gives us a perfect example: react defensively and without good judgment and you could call me a troll. On the other hand, I am trying to be helpful so the sentence doesn't become so ambiguous and non-sensical.

HRD - when have you known me to show favoritism? If you can point me to a specific instance, I'd be glad to not do so again in the future. Also, what makes you think that other mods HAVEN'T talked to Idle when it comes to posts where he legitimately doesn't do anything but antagonize someone?

But there's also a difference from going completely out of your way to antagonize someone and putting an argument in such a way that you come off harsh.

There are times I have presented my opinion in this forum rather harshly -- and there are a couple members who don't like me for it. I'm sure they'd say the same thing about me that a lot of people say about Idle given the chance. But I'm not harsh nearly as often, so there aren't as many people to say stuff like that. Overall I've ended up with a reputation of being a nice guy. But I have had arguments with people in which I may have come across as a prick to them.

That actually makes sense. And I see your point.

He can do the same thing as well as far as ignoring the people that say dumb things. But at times he is very antagonistic to those guys in hopes to get a reaction out of people. Is that trolling or just being abrasive.

The days where this community was warm and welcoming are almost completly gone! My days here are numbered as well as to where I have real life things that are gonna blow up for me really soon! So my concern is really small at this point.

I still say no banishing. But maybe equality! I dont wanna sit in the back of the bus damn it!! (get it?)

By all means Dest, you are a cool guy. I cant pinpoint ANY time where you showed ANY favortism at all. I cant say nothing bad bout you at all. Youre one of the examples that I try to follow in modding my SA.

My point was that there is just a fine line between Abrasive/trolling & just being a dick. Where do we draw that line? Or does it even need to be drawn?

Dest you are good people and other mods should take your example. I know I do.
