Well left is left, lol. Whatever your left shoulder is, on the 1p side yes this would be 8, or up. Clockwise, lol. Away from the screen.
  2. KingZeal [01] Neophyte

Yeah, sorry. For some reason, my first post didn't show up on my screen. So, I tried to repost.

    My bad.

Usually it's the opponents swordless hand that is easier to step to. Raph for example is a lefty, so right is the best side to step him.

The Apprentices step is uber gay.

This is really interesting. I've had many frustrating moments trying to step. I second the idea of a video. This would be great.

So I clear it up...for myself... double stepping has the ability to disengage attacks that track? This could be a huge boon to many players.
  5. coth_x [09] Warrior

but he also said that double stepping half cancels the first step tho. Therefore, single step > double step and you should double probably only for TSS Bs. I have to break the habit of holding and only move near my opponent with single presses.

If i single step do I still get countered, or is that only during 8wr/double step?
  6. Thane [08] Mercenary

sorry but I looked at the newb silencer and TSS? im also interested in finding out the answer to your question.
  7. coth_x [09] Warrior

As I understand, some moves have built in side steps. Therefore, it would be called a TSS (tech side step), but your right, i didn't see it in the newbie silencer so now I'm not sure.

I thought Sieg's 22_88B had a built in SS on top of the double step preceding it, but now Im not sure, and I dont have time to test at the moment.
  8. Thane [08] Mercenary

the plot thickens. I was thinking that TSS would mean Tech side step but with all the acronyms i wanted to be sure.

Im going to look into the stepping madness tonight when I get home.

If only they could combine Soul Calibur 4's 8wr with Tekken's godly movement canceling. Then SC4 would be the 3D fighting milestone as far as movement.

On a pad u must double tap to get a quick effective sidestep. Just tapping 2_8 won't do shit for you especially after moves...
  11. coth_x [09] Warrior

Umm except Sach has already explained that 2_8 is more effective than 22_88. Ive noticed myself that
22_88 and 8wr get me destroyed. I must break the habit!

Also, I have heard there are two different step styles between the cast some are quicker to step but step shorter range, whereas some are slower at steping but step a longer range.

I must improve defense and evasion!

cloth since you play sieg I assume, practice with this one

    4K on block > 2 or 8

you will dodge a ton of shit =D
  13. KowtowRobinson [10] Knight

As Sieg you also have a bunch of stance shifts with built in evasion. So look for situations to use this.
  14. coth_x [09] Warrior

    Thx Tia and Kow.

I did some extra testing. 2 and 22 cover the same distance it seems. So there really is no reason to double tap. Furthermore, it seems that [2] for a split second is faster (not sure), and allows for 22 moves to be used as well. You can cancel 6 into 2 as well. So he starts to move, it gets cancelled into the side movement. That is more usefull than anything like 22.

Any stepping, even single gets CH so be careful.

I also think there is a minimum amount of frames that you must depress for a step to fully activate. When tapping my pad some of Sieg's steps would cut off, as if the step didnt finish. Perhaps the game recognized the release as a tap cancelled the step, but didn't continue since i had released it.(not sure)

You can tell that 2 is smoother than 22 as well.

44 goes larger distance than 4! It doesnt matter anyway its so short.

Stepping online is almost impossible i have found.
  16. DMystic [08] Mercenary

Just a quick note to Coth

    Basehold tech crouches

Chiefhold will step in the direction you go 2_8
NOTE: this only applies to the 2_8 B+K transition things like 3 do not step.
  17. coth_x [09] Warrior

I know all about the stances, but I dont tend to use them for evasion. Thx tho. SBH B continues the TC too.

I understand sieg, but this thread is about stepping in general, I use Yun, too but his crane doesn't step. Not trying to be rude, but i cant figure out why Im being soloed for advice.
  18. DMystic [08] Mercenary

Didn't mean to single you out, and should have realized you would know that stuff.

I didn't really start to appreciate built in steps, and tech crouches until the recent tournament I entered.

Regular stepping is huge. Auto stepping is huge as well.

And I think finding a balance between the two can really change the game.

I need to work on my stepping habits as well.
  19. coth_x [09] Warrior

I noticed in training that some verticals simply come out to fast to step on reaction, anticpation is neccessary most of the time, which then makes it useless anyways. I tried Zas's BB and his 6A+B,B and his 6A+B,.

I couldn't step by reaction against his BB, and blocking 6A+B only allows you to step if he charges the next B. Its as if namco wants most of the fighting to look like tekken, where you just fight on a 2d path. I wish I was kidding, but stepping just seems useless, unless we are talking about a slow B or prediction.

I mean I remember training in SC2 and I think even 3 said A defeats 8wr and B defeats A. Now its just like A and B and throws beat 8wr, so step less and get CH less. Unless I see some sidestepping strategy, Im going to start being very careful about moving near my opponent.

That and my two mains are two of the unsafest character you can play. Ive also found that online Nightmare's WS B, and NSS K seem pretty much uninterruptible. Even my TCs fail against the NSS K. I dont even like playing as him either.

except 6. also Taki's PO steps don't give CH either. :)
