Super Smash Bros Wii U/Nintendo 3DS

Smash brothers games are great but i am not sure if i should buy a wii u just for this game (i am not interested in the 3ds version).

I just hope they REALLY nerf meta knight. This small guy was so broken in brawl it wasn't even funny...
 
I am happy with the news we got.

Yoshi - my favourite character from melee - finally confirmed.

Quajutsu/Greninja looks really cool. He should have some kind of "ninja fighting style" with focus on evasion and surprise attacks.

Ranked battles without items was really necessary.

Shiek and zamus are now characters on their own.
 
I've been a big fan of Smash Bros since the beginning on N64. So far Brawl's my favorite one overall and N64's my favorite as far as gameplay. I hope to get every smash bros game, but I'm getting the 3DS version first, since I don't have a Wii U yet.

Before seeing the E3 reveal last year and finding out about the 3DS version coming soon, I was expecting more of a change like from N64 to Melee since the specs are more different between Wii and Wii U than GameCube to Wii. After seeing everything revealed so far, I'm still really looking forward to the games and I'm glad that they are finally making a portable Smash Bros.

I'm looking forward to trying Rosalina's moves since you can control Luma from a distance. It seems like it will play similar to the Ice Climbers and similar to Viola from SC5.

For the returning characters, more moves were replaced than I expected. I didn't expect Kirby to have a charge hammer now and at least two of Pit's specials are new.

It's interesting that the alternate form characters are going to be separately playable. It looks like Sakurai gave us a late April Fools with Zero Suit Samus and I'm glad Sheik is returning too. Zelda's new :2::B: reminds me of ZWEI.
 
What? You can get banned from online play for relentlessly targeting an individual? But how else am I supposed to mercilessly bully people for camping? :(

The amount of trolling in this direct was simply glorious. Ridley's shadow, the pesudo-Palutena trophy to poke fun at the Palutena leak, pretending that ZSS was out, showing greninja in angles that made him look like Mewtwo... he even made fun of Iwata at one point... quite a ride. Surprised he didn't throw in a "my body is ready" joke in there as well lol

At first the release dates made no sense, but from a marketing standpoint it becomes evident why they would do this:
  • Increased 3DS and game sales give late Q2 bonus, at a time with no other big releases for the system
  • If released simultaneously, many would not buy both. This way, I think a lot of previously "wii u only" people will end up getting both
  • Wii U helps console and game sales at holidays
This plan could backfire, with a lot of the casuals sticking to the 3DS version only, but the people in competitive scene will all buy the Wii U version for obvious reasons, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The one issue I have this time gap between releases is the fact that there will be a six month period before release when we'll already know every single character in the roster. This doesn't stop them from making DLC for the Wii U version, but still. Now, given how the 3DS version has a special multiplayer mode taking advantage of the fact that every player has a separate screen, I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii U version also had unique features taking advantage of the gamepad and the system's superior Internet capabilities. I mean, there must be something to fill that gap with hype.

And most importantly, lets just take a moment and give Sakurai some credit for a HUGE nod to the competitive scene. With years of people saying Sakurai and Nintendo don't support the competition scene, and a lot of accusations in saying things were changed to prevent it, the reveal of Glory mode and FD-only stages are a huge nod to people that live for competitive smash. Sure, the FD-only is a bit weird, but there's always room for that to change, and he gave a huge explanation on online play. I think that the fact he went out of his way to push this into his game is a huge acknowledgement to us. Its a great step in the right direction.

I'm too hyped for SSB4!

As a veteran from the very first game i am pretty sure ness will be part of the roster. I don't like him personally but it wouldn't feel complete without him.

On the other hand i wouldn't miss the cheap clones falco or lucas.

I've played Ness every single time and even though he's trash-tier, he's too awesome to not play.

And yes, fuck clones. They can do a lot better that clones and even though I hope Falco and Lucas get a move-list what seperated them a lot more from there counterparts, if they can't produce that than just leave them completely.

P.S Why isn't Waluigi a playable character? We have Mario, Wario. So why don't Luigi, Waluigi. He deserves to be more than a trophy.

I played them also. If you cut some characters (or change their moveset completely) there will always be angry players who liked and played them. My point was that i think it's better for the game if there are not too many clones. They should focus on the balancing instead which was really awful in the former games.

I never cared about tiers. It is much more rewarding if you play the characters you like instead of picking so called "top tier"-characters you don't like except you are a professional and play for money. I will be proud of you if you stay with ness no matter what ;-)

Waluigi as a characters seems possible because he is loved and hated so much. It would be a nice surprise if nintendo unveils him as a newcomer. We will see
