I can understand what your saying NeclordX, I think the problem is the fact characters like Alice or the Queen of Hearts or any character from Lewis Carroll for that matter are so iconic and have such identifiable looks, whereas Brothers Grimm characters a far more open to interpretation. The Most well known versions of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty are Disney's and while well known the looks are very typical, genric and rather well blah! The only exception I can think of is Snow White due to her status as Disney's flagship princess even Shrek's Snow White is clearly inspired but Disney's, and if you took away the zombie features from mine I think its quite clear who she is.

Ultimately HolyCarp you pointed out exactly what I was doing, these were never ment to be perfect renditions, thats not what I do! I wanted to create these charcters that were based on the stories of the Brothers Grimm with a dark twist and feel like original characters but still feel like they fit the world of Soul Calibur out of their original context.

Oh I see sadly ;) I honestly don't think I could do him justice or really recreate him and I wouldn't like to do a half arsed job

I just don't know how to describe the beauty of these creations! I swear I'm trying, but I don't have the words!!!

This is pure genius elaboration of common sense that I will agree with. I will say it isn't that easy to make something original because let's face it, CAS is like music. Both need inspiration to create works of art. Music for it's melody and all. CAS for...well designs haha.

And while ripping ideas may be off-putting for some, it's what you do with it if you know what I mean. Even if these are ripped ideas, I still find the way it's pulled off original. Pardon the post.

Standing on the shoulders of giants, so to speak. The difference between imitation and inspiration, is that with inspiration, you're recreating something, but with your own flair.

'Save the damsel' is a common story type, that may even be overdone in and of itself, and yet people keep finding fresh ways of doing it that make it interesting in other ways. Le Bello feels that this is what Matty has accomplished, and hopefully will continue to accomplish.

You guys always write such good responses and I always enjoy reading them so an extra big thank you :)
after creating these characters and seeing the responses I got, its really making me want to go back to the original project that inspired me to do them in the first place!

I was considering doing a set of X-Men characters next but again not recreations but X-Men if they were Soul Calibur characters but I'm not sure? Anyone got any other suggestions?

If you keep posting wonderful works of artistic authority, then what choice to we have but to reply in kind?

Le Bello isn't a big X-Men fan, but THIS is something I'd be interested in doing. I realised recently that a superhero would be easy to make, and planned on doing some SC Heroes of my own. But didn't get around to it. (Vil has an especially good Kick Ass/Hit Girl, on a side note.)

How about finding characters you love to mess around with? I'm pretty sure there's something you want to pull off regarding that as your main focus. If it's X-men, go for it.

    X-men sounds awesome.
Personally, I really want to see you create all the characters from Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but of course adding your dark twists to them and making them fit into the SCV cast. I reckon the results could be incredible.
(and I'd love to see your interpretations of the few characters I made on my literary thread from a while ago)

Edit: On second thoughts, if you don't, I reckon I'll recreate the Roald Dahl characters.

These are, like, totally fabulous, especially Malificent's hair horns. I'd love to see these in action. Would you be down to spar online?

This is some sort of hardcore, fantasy gone wild depiction of the Brothers Grimm's tales, which were already very, well, grim.

Impressive as always, or maybe even more for some of them. You never cease to amaze me to the point I need a bottomless bucket for my rainbow puking.

Also, I love the idea of SC X-men, instead of trying to get good recreations. That leaves place for your already burnished imagination and creativity, and while you'll be playing a lot with them, we will probably still recognize the characters in that mindset you'll have. That is, for me, an incredible experience when it's done appealingly (which you did here for example, I have nothing much to add).

So go for what you feel like doing. Just saying that this idea is indeed an interesting one.

I'm more then happy to face you online but sadly mst of the grimm stuff is now deleated due to lack of space
  15. Matty82 [10] Knight

Still not sure if i will do them or not yet, I may wait for another costume pack or two so I've got stuff to work with

Bravo, you always leave me and the rest of your "audience" in awe! I love all of them; Malificent's hair horns, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White's backstories; Rumpelstiltskin, is there anything you cannot do? Why hasn't Namco hired you yet? Cinderella has to be my favorite though, she's pretty badass looking. The glass pattern really captures her appearance, I would of never expected Modern Pattern 15 to look so good!
  17. Lonewolf_Kai [10] Knight

Magnificent! They truly do look like Soul Calibur characters.... o_O

That's all I had to say, really. Thanks again for putting these up, Matty82! m(_ _)m

... I love Fairy tales... I am fascinated by Fairy tales, Folklore, and mythology... Your characters really merge modern sensibilities with the old- brutal consequence for you actions- vibe of the Grimm stuff.
    Very nicely dark!
I also really love that you shared a link of your drawings.
    Great stuff!
