Remember in SC3 where characters were all grouped together among their deciplinary families?
[Raphea /Sigfried / Amy] were all classified as variations of the "Knight" class?
[Tira / Lizardman /] were Assassins? [Setsuka and Taki] were both "Ninjas" but used differing weapons? Well here's the thing. If the biggest issue regarding the old cast's coexistance is the fear of cloning or duplication then they should change the weapons of the new characters into a variation of the Occupation the Veteran before them had.

Natsu of all the new characters has the most potential to be a new addition of her own merit rather then be a wannabe clone character and surprised at how limited Project soul is starting to become with their weapon choices for characters. I want new characters as much as anyone else but after SC4 they're just getting really uncreative and rehashing. Though if they already recreated Lizardman and turned him into his own character branched out from Sophitia..
A lot of people want Taki back in the series, as she is often regarded as the most popular ninja character to be ever featured in video games.but Namco intended Natsu to take over. Though, despite most players not liking that choice. However, because Taki's following is so much greater then Natsu I think she should keep the original style. Then, someone purposed that they wanted to see a character using a weapon of this style.
That lead to my suggestion of them changing the weapons of some of the similar characters or more specifically the newer characters. Since they were just introduced, they don't have a deep fanbase yet and their movesets arent very well rounded out now so, then maybe they could use the opportunity to change their weapons in order to keep them in the game but still bring back the originals. I purpose that they change her weapon background to these 2 weapons: "Kusarigama"(Chained-Sickle)(Right Hand) and a (Ninjato)(Left Hand) and change her warrior occupation to a "Demon Slayer" rather then a generic Ninja clone so they can keep the variety and keep both characters and become a veteran to her own subclass.
Attacking with these weapons would usually be swinging the weighted chain in a large circle over one's head, and then whipping it forward to hook and pul-in opponents (like Scorpion) for long range stunning the arms or legs. The kusarigama user could also easily rush forward gripping the shaft of the sickle and strike or swipe like a dagger. In the other hand she would use a Ninja Sword for close range hits. After she pulls in, you can swipe at the enemy like Taki does and thus a stance is created.

Demon Slayers are a fictional subclass of ninja archetype who specialize in targeting supernatural or evil spiritual creactures that possess humans. Typically performed independently or in conjunction despite their lack of spiritual powers (like those possessed by monks & priests), due to many years of training, the use of special weapons, & equipment made to combat demons. With their their strength, specialized weapons, & skills they are mistaken by some people to be ninjas. I think considering what soul calibur (was) it makes sense for a character to want to hunt down Astaroth or lizardman or their creators. (Someone to actually keep the plot moving or give Lizardman some relevance for once.)

In conclusion if the new characters were BRANCHES off of the decipline the Veterans have, we can have diversity while keeping the both characters.

[Knight Class: Rapheal / Sigfried / Amy / Hilde / ZWEI]
[Assassin Class: Aeon / Tira / Viola]
    [Ninja: Taki / Setsuka /Natsu]
    [Monk: Kilik / Xiba]

I think Taki should have the Kusarigama and Shurikens while Natsu have the Kodachi.

As far as Xianghua and Leixia are concerned (which you kinda left out), I think Xianghua should either have the 9 ring broadsword, Liu Ye Dao (Willow Leaf Sabre) or butterfly swords (to complement Xianghua's dancer like movements) while Leixia wields the Jian.

I also like the idea of Xiba using Hualin's old style while Kilik has his staff back and Mi-Na using her Zanbatou, Guan Do, or Three Section Staff

I also agree to have Setsuka back. She had some potential but it was all wasted away on a variation of Patroklos.

Speaking of the Alexandras, I want Cassandra back, and as far as Alpha Pat and Omega Pyrrha are concerned, they should not even be in there, Zasalamel and Talim would've been better.

I suggested Natsu to get the new weapon because she was intended to replace Taki, where as Taki was the original user that is already stapled with the kunai/ninjato as her weapon. Natsu is still brand new so people wont be too surprised.

Same with Xianghua, they should keep her weapon the same while making Leixia the dancer because shes the new character. Leixia needs a fix up anyway where as most people are used to Xianghua's style as it is.
Omega Pyrhha has enough reason to be there but taking up a slot and weapon position is what I don't want.

At first i thought that they would give Natsu the Ninja style from SC3 and Taki her style but since you brought up that 2 Chained Sickle, I would like to call my self MINDFUCKED!
  5. ShaolinTiger86 [11] Champion

That can work also. But what weapon would Leixia have if Xianghua has her jian back? I would suggest butterfly swords, since Leixia is going to be the dancer type.
  6. DevilsDisguise [12] Conqueror

I dont want Xianghua to change because she was there first. Most of her fans probably dont even care about Leixia but just want the style though already used to Xianghua's character. She was a veteran as her moves are tied to her. If anything Leixia should be the one to change; being she is brand new and not stapled into the series yet. Most xianghua fans probably don't care about Liexia herself at all but want to feel something like Xianghua wherever they can. I mean others outside that fanbase cast her to just be another annoying kid anyway, as do I. I just can't get used to this cast the way they are. If they really want to introduce new characters then everything about them should be "new". I mean as this game emphasizes, their weapon is their identity right? So a new face = new weapon to the series. (Though I still argue that Viola and ZWEI took that out of context and are just messing up everything....)

It's more likely we'd just see Taki with the same weapons she's always had, and more demonic/magical moves in her moveset, or something that represents how old she's gotten. What with Daishi saying she's past her prime.

For Kilik/Mi-Na, since Mi-Na came first she should get priority, but her weapon and style differed enough from Kilik's anyway. I'm fine with Xiba as he is, and it'd be a back-step for Kilik as a character anyway.

Alpha/Setsuka is simple enough - Setsuka has the whole umbrella portion of her weapon to work with. A more defensive/parry style would work easily here, and Alpha can keep his more precise, capitalising style.

If Xianghua were to return, it'd like be with a different weapon. She's moved on in life, and as Leixia ran away with Xianghua's sword, it'd just be weird seeing her with it. Perhaps a more refined, elegant style, with a similar weapon.

Ultimately I can't see them changing the weapons/styles dramatically for two main reasons:

1 - The veterans are long-established fan favourites. Changing them too dramatically would upset the fans.
2 - The newcomers are the future of SoulCalibur. Changing THEM too dramatically would undermine their inclusion and position. "Here's this new character. In the next game they're instantly replaced with an older one, thus making their first appearance redundant".

Don't get me wrong - Kurasigami Taki with dragonbreath powers would be FANTASTIC. But I'm being realistic.

I agree with you, Le Bello. I think the veterans should return but the fact that changing would be risky also. Seeing Taki, Xianghua, and Mi-Na with different weapons would greatly expand Soul Calibur's choices in styles. Having the newcomers inherit their styles and relying on them to be the future of Soul Calibur is also something that I think should be touched on also. Some of us want the veterans back but I think the newcomers should be given another chance. I think bringing back the veterans can be done two ways: One is have the veterans come back as character skins and another, like Le Bello and DevilsDisguise mention is giving them new weapons but still remaining true to their mannerisms and play mechanics.

I'm more concerned about what they can do with Natsu seeing as her job has more then one branch outside the root. Ninjas in Anime all over potray the art much less linearly then a generic samurai figure. A Ninjas weapon can change them in a single flip. If Natsu were of her own potrayal of the Ninja but brought originality and used a never seen weapon related to Ninjitsu she could someday be a veteran herself if the weapon she masters is her own. She of all the new characters to me seems to the most flexable with her conception seeing as ninjas did different things with different weapon paths according to anime.

Taki would've been cooler, by the fact that she's just cooler. =|;}D

But I agree with Shaolin in his agreeing with me. As cool as it'd be, the best we could likely hope for would be either character skins, or something akin to the 'extra' characters, such as Ashlotte.

Seeing Taki with dragon breath and a kusarigama would be epic but then again, we all miss seeing her with the dual kodachi. Now, what weapon options could we Xianghua. We know that Leixia now wields the jian and so did X but what new weapon could we give her?
  15. Le_Bello [13] Hero

I liked the idea of Butterfly Sword as someone mentioned prior, or even just another jian, but wielded slightly differently.
  16. ShaolinTiger86 [11] Champion

I mentioned the idea of having Xianghua wield the Butterfly Sword. Having Xianghua wield another jian wouldn't make sense, now that we got Leixia, unless you know another way of wielding the weapon.

Maybe a less... Floaty way, if you know what I mean? She's given up some of the more ambitious flips and spins in favour of graceful swipes and such? I ain't know mistah, I'm just a poor little shoe-shine boy.
  18. ShaolinTiger86 [11] Champion

A less floaty way? meaning she wouldn't be all over the place? I'm not sure if Project Soul are going to have two jian wielders but then again, Tekken has two capoeira fighters and tae kwon do fighters. I digress but maybe there is some hope to have more refined jian style that is graceful and non-acrobatic. Look how SC3 brought back Hwang (despite him being a bouns character and all) but I do believe there could be some chance of having two jian wielders...maybe. That or introduce a new weapons style for Xianghua like the butterfly swords, after all, one of Xianghua's motifs is the butterfly.
  19. Le_Bello [13] Hero

Pyrrha, Omega, Patroklos. That's 3 S&S users right there =];}D

That also rests my case. If we can have three S&S users, we can fit in two jian wielders and two ninjas (three, if you count Yoshimitsu).
