I'm definitely with you on Maaya Sakamoto and Versailles. Utada though has more of a R&B persuasion that slides in and out of pop i think. Tommy heavenly6 got my attention a while back and she even has a counter part group called Tommy February6 who often makes an appearance in TH6 music vids.

It is just the way she sings. I already do not like pop, but her songs just annoy me xD.

ouch! well then I don't think it's something she can really change then since it's her voice. And you no like J-pop?! O_O
what about this? Ai otsuka is my favorite j-pop singer.

MC Hammer clearly is awesome because his songs made me wanna dance and have fun when I was little.

However, I should give thanks to LMFAO. I may be wrong, but this joint must of been inspired by MC Hammer since they pretty much dance and have fun too. I mean the shuffle dance comes back and is used in a different fashion.

Basically, I never knew the shuffle until my older bro pointed out that he's seen it before. Basically he knew the dance must came from MC Hammer. I watched them both and naturally I felt like wanting to dance(although I favored MC Hammer's vid more). But that's not to say I felt that LMFAO are a bunch of silly guys who have a ton of fun with people in their vid. Maybe I truly do enjoy music when I happen to study something I like. All to get the gist of the intentions of the artist(s) for instance. Anyways, I post these because I was intrigued and pretty much am having a feeling like child who learned something new and wanted to share it.

Well I brought up the lyrics because I was talking about the song as a whole not just a part of it, don't worry I'm not trying to convince of anything here, I was just saying what I think, I wasn't saying you shouldn't like it, you can like the song if you want but I don't like it due to the reasons I mentioned before and because I know I can listen to something better

I'm sorry, I'll reply to some of the other posts later, I just wanted to say that if you are comparing metal lyrics to rap lyrics both of them have obnoxious undertones. Rap's obsession with wealth, violence bigotry, drugs and homophobia is just as easily comparable to metal's preoccupation with violence, hatred of religion, hatred of other groups and ah yes, violence.

Of course there are groups whose subjects branch out in other directions, but if you are to recognize the metal groups that do so you must also recognize the rap groups that do so as well, and also understand that BOTH of those groups are in the minority when it comes to popularity.

EDIT: I do agree with you that Jay-Z is not doing that song much justice though, it's pretty awful. All I wanted to say is that there is no merit in looking past terrible metal lyrics just because there is a good voice (or howl) behind them. In fact, I almost think it makes it worse.

Akino Arai and Susumu Hirasawa are two of my all-time favorite musicians. But it needs to be said that the stuff they do for anime, while good, hardly compares to their other work.

Also check out Hirasawa's old band, P-Model. They were a big influence on the Japanese new wave and techno pop scene in the 70s and 80s. Polysics in particular practically worship them.

Wow........ Okay. That was not what I was talking about at all... sigh.

So let's talk about lyrics. We'll leave artists out of it for now. When you listen to lyrics what qualifies it as good? And what qualifies it as some ol bullshit? Let's establish this before we start judging artists. In terms of rap lyrics what qualities do you listen for to judge whether or not this is good or bad? Cadence? Tempo? Rhyme structure? Style? Rhythm? What makes something good?

dude you are my favorite person right now. You are the second person whom I know likes Akino, Susumu, and the Polysics. I'm personally waiting for another Akino Arai cd to come out and am hoping it's not another (what was it?) 7 years.

To say "today's music sucks" is beyond ignorance. There are plenty of talented artists out there. It's just a matter of RESEARCHING.

My choice in music is pretty unique though. Alongside J-R&B (Jasmine, Crystal Kay, and Ai), I also listen to House Music (French House, Disco House, Nu-Disco, among others), and some R&B. Hip Hop, depends, but I love the early 90s of Hip Hop with jazz and funk samples.

There are individuals that I like as well: Little Dragon, Adele, Jessie J., Latoiya Johnson are among the few.

I can proudly say that mainstream modern rap music today is just FLAT OUT CRAP after seeing this:

The up and coming rappers are way better than the mainstream ones. Keys the beat/problem and Guyana are two of my favorite females...

Not to mention, I despise Young Money.
