If some of yall played the DBZ and Naruto games, this should be familiar. Anyone wants that feature?

To me, that would make me feel that I'm in a real sword fight. It would work when both you and the opponent input a move at the same time.

You mean one of those godawful button-mash things? Hell no.

Yeah, I always hated those in Samurai Showdown
  4. GF900000Returns [05] Battler

Could be either that, spin the analog stick, or just guess the right button
  5. jtdam09 [11] Champion

You mean a deadlock? Soul Edge had that feature before.

Soul Calibur IV had somewhat of a clashing feature as well, but it wasn't considered "deadlock". They both just get caught off guard.
  6. GF900000Returns [05] Battler

Not only that. It could also include the player and the opponent continuously clashing swords for either mashing a button or guessing the right one like they do it in the DBZ and some Bleach games.

As said before, Soul Blade had it. It was kind of eh. Basically, A was fast and beat B, K tech crouch and beat A, and B was a mid and beat K. In the case of a tie, A and B would just do a normal clash where you were reset to neutral, and K would trade for a double KND - looked really silly. I would be okay with it returning, but it's not something that I "want" per se since it's basically rock-paper-scissors randomly inserted into the game.

Adding button mashing or rock/paper/scissors mechanics isn't something I think would make the game better.

Just to let yall know that if the "I do" answer has the most votes, I'll send a message to Namco Bandai about it for them to inform PS that the clashing feature would be a nice addition.

How about rotating the analog stick?

Wooow...I'm shocked that most people don't want the feature. Yall don't think it would make it better huh?

To me that would bring a lot of innovation to the series just like Critial Edges for SCV, because right now people are starting to hate the series because of SCV being "the same". We can still have our competitive gaming feel while the casuals would feel like they're in a real sword fight if that feature is added in. Hell, features like that were in Soul Edge, so why not in future games. That's all I gotta say.

1- So... you're shocked that a stupid mechanic that adds needless randomness to the game, requires no real skill and promotes button mashing isn't desired in one of the most serious communities of competitive 3D fighters? I guess you must also be surprised that we didn't like the idea of having Ermac.

2- You say it'd be innovative, yet it was present in a game from 1995. And Soul Charge, step g and supernatural whole-ring jumps were present in previous games of the series...

Besides, we already have a thread for discussing SCIV.

    No. Just. No.
No, really. I have to agree with norik434. Adding in a button-mashing or controller wiggling 'feature' will neither make the game better, nor would it be 'innovative'.
If I'm sword-clashing like you suggest, I'm taking a risk that I am stronger than my opponent and will be able to overpower him. A silly risk when disengaging and striking would be a much more efficient use of my energy. I would suspect that sword-clashing - as you think would be more 'immersive' - is nothing more than a Hollywood fighting style for dramatic effect.

    What's wrong with anime games?
  18. DevilsDisguise [12] Conqueror

You're using shitty DBZ game mechanics to build an actual respectable fighting game? Thats the last thing PS needs. Gimmicks mixed with intentially broken crap. Ultimate tenkaichi is an example of what NOT to ever do to a game series intended to be about "fighting". If thats the only "fighting" game series you play then I don't see how this idea is credible at all.

I don't have a problem with the premise of anime games, really. In fact, I used to enjoy DBZ Budokai a ton as a kid.

It just seems like recent iterations of the DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi games aren't very skill based at all (I can't speak for the Naruto games, never touched one). It's all about luck based rock paper scissors, button mashing sequences, and quick time events. Clashes are just a gimmick, and have no place in a fighting game that wants to take itself seriously.
