Yeah to even question button binds is the dumbest shit ever. People should never be belittled for trying to find what works best for there hands. Using dexterity as a factor is ridiculous.

Though I gotta admit Hilde with binds definitely has an impact on using her.

Finally I will always be loyal to my first character choice no matter where they place on a tier list (Ex. Steve-Tekken, Ken-Street Fighter) In the case of Hilde I use her because the bitch is broke and I need to know every nook and cranny vs. her for the future. I don't plan on using her in offline tourneys.

To put this in its proper perspective-

Many people believe that fighting games rely on a combination of mind games and dexterity based execution.
People believe that via binds, there is a removal of some of the dexterity based execution because it eliminates the possibility of human error.

The games own design (example, just frames) seems to indicate that there is a place for manual dexterity and execution within the purview of the game. Some just frames are even made simple through the application of binds (seigs agA comes to mind).

To you who say "who cares about binds", consider the above before blindly shouting "its just a preference and it affects nothing". It does affect things.

That being said, I PERSONALLY believe it shouldnt be banned- but I can see the argument against it.

Well button binding is the first thing I do anyway, R1 and R2 need to NOT be useless crap., so I change it.

Yup, that's also pretty much the way I see it. I personally hope binds don't get banned because it makes things easier for me, but I honestly couldn't come up with a good argument against it if confronted about it. I also respect Tim as a person and a player, so I can sort of understand where he's coming from.

I'm definitely open to being corrected or at least informed to cope better with others views.

I am also aware of the above.

However on the opposite side of that spectrum people who can't get the accuracy that would make them comfortable from a controller can also have a negative impact on the way that person can perform.

It's like why should I handicap the most important part which is feeling comfortable with the way my hands work.

Umm yah, the binding is not HAX, or some kind of unintended form of input since it is what the develpors intended. I suggest you worry about your own game than if others are binding or not. In high play, it matters not who is using what controller or what binds...Soul Calibur has always been about the mind game regardless.

I'd rather this game was about things like mind games, strategy, and skill at using the character than how well I press buttons. I understand the view against binding, but that doesn't make it any less ridiculous.

If you're that into dexterity contests I suggest you enter a juggling tournament.

i'll start off by saying that i am against binds, but you wont see me fuss about it or put anyone down for using them.

one thing i see in this thread is people saying "i need my shoulder buttons", well thats just fine. i dont think anyone suggested that we ban shoulder buttons. to ask someone to play with just the four face buttons would be pretty harsh. substituting a few buttons on the shoulders would allow all the uncomfortable combinations like B+G or A+K.

ive seen people play effectively in this manner and even for a short time when tekken DR was first on PS3 i was forced to learn pad until a good converter came out. if i can VTSc on pad with marduk then(i have horrible dexterity) then surely others can play SC on pad.

i think people saying the game should be about mindgame and mixup and not dexterity are ridiculous. SC is one of the easiest when it comes to execution, though there are times when i myself screw something up like a double button input.

you want strategy and mindgames without dexterity? go play starcraft.

Well, allow macros while at it. I want my dial-an-iagA.

EDIT to above post: I think StarCraft requires a lot of dexterity as well. It's rathertough to manage all those shortcuts and mouse moving. Always liked RTS but I'm just too slow.

haha, yeah Rii you're right, i was just trying to think of a quick video game analogy. i should have just said chess.

You good sir do not know what competitive starcraft is really about.... micro gives me headaches

Oh and call this topic what you will but I know more people then I can count on one hand that quit because of hilde + binds... the general consensus was the combo is bad but there should be some drawbacks to holding buttons and they would balance her out. I also challenge ANY hilde player to win a tourney with only 4 buttons binded... I dont think its gonna happen on any front so I might just be beating a dead horse but I was talking if over with a bunch of people in AIM and it spawned this little bitch of a topic

I think the argument Bibulus is making, is not that button binding gives an unfair advantage to other players, but that it consumes time and confuses many players. During the team tournament we had at GVN, half the time went to people figuring out their buttons. Then of course, people forget to set their buttons and lose the first round because everything is fucked up.

People bitch and moan, yet they don't understand that even with stick they would have to deal with the same shit. The people who really quit because of your crap reason would still quit regardless of binds or not imo. This just gives them a different excuse to use than if there were no binds allowed.

Not that I attend lots of tournies or anything but I assumed binding was banned to begin with so I do just play with an extra K and B on shoulders to help out with those combinations that are difficult so I would never have to adjust my playstyle from binds to no binds if I went to one.

Having those 2 extra single buttons makes it capable for me to do what I need to do for those combinations but I still have that element of human error where I might miss something where as if I have it bound I would get it 100%. Even though I don't have 100% precision this way, as opposed to binds, I need it this way for slide inputs. If everything was bound I don't know how I would do most of those.

I agree but dexterity to what degree? Outside of Hilde what real noticable advantages are given to the player.

I mean technically you can even argue that if you prefer a pad over a stick or vice versa. That alone factors in to some degree an issue with dexterity.

    Seriously am I wrong.

....................some people always gotta go to the extreme.

Anyone would be absolutely unreasonable not to agree with you here.

Hilde + binds make a huge impact on how easy she is to play.

There is absolute truth to this.

Personally I think she should be banned for a shit load of reasons and binds being one of those reasons.

    Honest question though?

Do you really see a significant issue with binds outside of Hilde? Or is it because of Hilde you are making this case.

why should binds be banned because of one character?

    i like my B+K and A+K

Removing binds from Hilde wouldn't balance her out because no one would use her if they couldn't use button binds. Who the hell is going to use her with just four buttons?

Hilde is a broke bitch and Namco is not going to fix her ever, so I should be able to select a walled stage so that I am not ringed out by some bitch ass combo.

Malice, people do use her with 4 butons and I have practiced her with 4 buttons. People think this is the magical cure to their whining.
