It's coming to that time of the year again. The time of hype, glory, competition, and most importantly, saltiness. NECXVII is over 3months away, being hosted on 12/16/2016-12/18/2016, via King of Prussia, PA.

I encourage anyone and everyone to try and attempt to make this trip. As of recently, there has been some discussion about foreign competition attending. One in particular competitor, GOLD Shad, has shown interest in attending. GOLD Shad is one of the best players in EU, and has proven his mettle and skills on US soil. With the placing of 4th at NEC2014 and 2nd at NEC2015.

On top of all this, I have offered a donation towards EU/JP players. I'm donating 100$ towards the attendance of EU/JAP players. Alongside my donation, Bruno (a member of the FR Soul Calibur community) has also promised a donation of 100$.

Anyone is welcomed to follow suit in hopes to sparking, and assisting foreign competition on attending NECXVII. I encourage more people donate to the cause for...

It looks like it is that wonderful time of the year everybody! Grab your cups and gather some salty tears delivered from the heavens, which is also known as the event known as NEC. For those of you who don't know, NEC (Northeast Championships hosted by @eric) is the biggest Soulcalibur V tournament that will be taking place in December. If you want more information about the event, then check out NEC 16 | Big E Gaming (http://bigegaming.com/nec-16/) or our thread here on 8wayrun in the "Tournament Announcements" section. As of right now, French players confirmed for NEC are Keev, GolD ShaD, Deus Kaliya, and GolD Drataks.

However, the spotlight today is being given to you by GolD ShaD, the creator of an epic video that insults our American players. If you don't know who GolD ShaD is, he is an Alpha Patroklos player who got 4th at NEC 2014 and turned our hero Blueboy into the color red. He has also recently out-placed the Mexican Legend Lolo at the Edge Master Series tournament in London, which transformed him into the Mexican Legend Don Quixote. The heat that has been brought to the kitchen is in the form of a video that trashes LP and essentially challenges him for being known to some as the best Alpha Patroklos. Watch the video here...

Devil Jin is a character that has been banned since the beginning of Soulcalibur V. Whether your reasoning for wanting him gone was due to his crazy pre-patch ringouts or his Tekken origins, the official reasoning for the ban was from the lack of a character model. This means that we are forced to use character creation mode to access him.

The potential problems with that is that there are certain hitbox issues that can be induced by the custom characters that cause unintended misses or hits. Recently, we have developed a team in response to the online players who use Devil Jin and don't want to go out to tournaments because of the ban.

It's been exactly 3 years, 4 months and 7 days from today's date since the release of Soul Calibur V. That being said, I feel it's been a substantial amount of time to try and formulate a tier list. Before we dive in, there's a few things we need to lay out when in discussion on tier lists.

Firstly, it's damn near impossible to create a solid, 100% accurate tier list. Reasons vary from things like region, the game's life-span, knowledge, and the fact that not everyone will agree on one tier list. I think it's important to honor this notion and get several tier list's from distinguished community member's rather than a group effort on an absolute tier placement.

When we see a tier list, there's always going to be a debate in which a lot of people will partake in, "flame wars." This is not the intentions of this article, so please keep discussion civil. It's also important to note that all the tier lists' in this article are opinions. Whether or not you want to deem it...

NECXVI is an event/tournament hosted by none other than the legendary Eric "Big E" Small. For those who don't know, Northeast Championships (NEC) is arguably the most consistent, prominent tournament that Soul Calibur has. The event itself is hosted in Philadelphia, PA and will be taking place December 4th, 5th, and 6th.

Of course Big E does feature Soul Calibur as a main game at his other events (Summer Jam, East Coast Throwdown, Winter Brawl). Though, the community of Soul Calibur has enforced the notion of Northeast Championship to being a "main event" in terms of tournament and attendance. Details after the break...

Recently, a recording of SBO 2007 was put on YouTube for everyone to see. For those of you unfamiliar with SBO, it is a tournament held in Japan on a huge stage that resembles a game show. However, the rules differ from traditional USA tournaments due to it being a FT1 (first to one win) single elimination format. This makes it more like a real life fight where you would only have one life. As a result, it also makes it harder for the players who can't adapt quickly to succeed. It essentially becomes reduced to solid players, janky strategies, and a shorter experience, which is mainly why it is unheard of in the USA. With that being said, SBO is a unique tournament since you can easily get your heart broken!

Keep in mind this is Soulcalibur 3 arcade edition, so the meta is way different from the console version since Arcade Edition removed glitches and rebalanced the characters. The full results are unknown to me, but according to a nifty wikipedia resource, the tournament winner... click to continue to the video....

Welcome to the first ever "Xephavorites" article. Just for the sake of introduction... What to expect with "Xephavorites?" Well, aside from playing the game, much like a lot of you here, I enjoy watching matches. Whether it's for comedy entertainment purposes, or because the skill is potent in the match, I'm a fan of the 'sport' that is Soul Calibur. This particular "Xephavorites" article will revolve around NECXV's Pool Play matches that might've been skipped over and/or top 16.

This isn't to say that "Xephavorites" article will only pertain to video play... but we'll cross that bridge when the times come. Also, as a bonus, every "Xephavorites" article will have a guest's input. This article @GreatOne1939 (will edit and add his favorite's when he's finished filtering through them) will be showing you his favorite matches from NECXV, alongside my top 5 favorite's. Without further due, let's jump right in!

After the success Midland Warfare was last year, I have decided to up the ante on all fronts. Bigger venue, bigger pot bonus, actual working stream, and even more community direct love. The idea of this tournament in the first place was to give our community a tournament where they're taken care of first and foremost instead of a last ditch add-on and I'll do whatever possible to make this the cornerstone that this community needs. What I need to make this a smash success is the players. Chicago has been supporting from day one and this year is no different. Hawkeye, LostProvidence, FenrisZero, and possibly a guest of interest will be in attendence. What we need is other communities to support as well so we can have the major we all deserve.

If you have questions on travel, here is the rundown... Get in contact with me, if you're flying you can fly into Lincoln (more expensive, closer to the venue) or Omaha (cheaper but further out), our community can shuttle players to and from the venue within reason. The key here is contacting me if you're flying in so you can be well taken care of.

Other than that, I hope to see you all in September.
