This thread will serve as a general discussion thread/Q&A for Viola.
Please discuss all things related to that here.
Thank you

So, Messing around with viola I've found that she is awesome!

Even less damage output than talim which I love. The longer the fight the more flashy combos I can pull off! :) Her crazy speed makes up for the lack of damage and with her orb and brave edges it feels like she can go insane for a while without problems.

Pros: Long combos. I did a 17 hit combo without really knowing what I was doing! I believe it was CE Back throw, 3B AAB CE AAB and then I Screwed up. Could have been even longer!

Punishes ignorance very well. I feel like I can almost do what ever I want.

Seems safe. Not to say everything is positive on block, but moves like 6A+B 6A A+B and 2A+B are very nice moves that either have unlimited range, or very long range and a very nice push back. In fact, viola has a guard breaker unblockable with 2(A+B) held, 3B combo. Which as seen above can lead into a sexy little number.

Throws. Particularly her back turned throw gives you a free 3B. The rest either are naturally or give you free moves to get you over 45. Quite nice.

Cons:
Is very difficult. She has been harder to just pick up and play then any other character I've tried to do that with. I had to go into training and go through her movelist a bit. While in a fight her difficulty pays off in terms of tripping up the opponent, you can also get lost focusing on viola and what she should do next, rather than what the opponent is currently doing.

Brave edges. Alot of her brave edges feel similar, all of which involving the orbs return. Since the low call back isn't really a low, it sort of limits the utilization of these moves. However, I believe it's 44A BE is quite nice.

From what I've seen, her orb return BE's simply make the return animation instantaneous and less obvious and expected than her regular orb return. Great for combo fodder though.

Also, what inputs are used to send/call the orb? Is it still B+K?

B+K for regular call backs. But A+B has a few send moves and the downward guard crush with the orb is A+B.

I'm glad some discussion is getting started =)

What do you guys find to be her safest methods of sending the orb out? 6A+B? I haven't played anyone offline yet, so I guess I just wanted to see if there was a general concensus on this.

What pokes do you all think would be staples for us to use?

Are all of her lows unsafe? Just playing through each of them that seems to be the case to me.

I don't think she's as bad as some make her out to be. I do think she could do a tad bit more damage though.

Yeah for sure 6A+B. Don't ever regularly set it. Waste of frames.

Her lows are meh.

and as for pokes I think AA/AAB will be very useful for poke punishes. 6K is a good move. as is 66B

How does she feel when without the orb? From what I've seen, having the orb equipped gives you greater damage and more options to pressure the opponent. Does she feel limited without it?

Her combos are limited with it. Her non combo based damage out put is limited with out it. a little give and take I suppose :)

Pretty much right on the money. Knowing what moves to use with or without the orb in certain situations is key. She's gonna be a toughie to crack, that's for sure, haha.

I see, sounds like something you always have to keep in mind while playing her. Does she have the ability to play a zoning game? Her orb seems to be rigidly linear.

Her zoning game is great. Specially when you get the opponent blocking. She has a chain of about three moves, 6A+B 2B+K 2A+B that control space really well. When it comes to super side step. at melee range she is perfectly fine, however I'd say at range she is very linear, similar to scIV Ivy, without the Whip 6B+K2.

Sounds good :) Just one more Q: have you found any high damage setups after trapping the opp. with her CE?

You mean like CE Back turned throw 3B AAB 2A+B? or any other variation of that combo? Those are generally as high a damage out put you can get with one bar.

Hi guys. I am glad about all the discussion. I have no time right now to go through everything but I do want to point out something.

This was in the combo discussion thread and that thread is reserved only for discussing valid and invalid hit strings that may or may not count as combos. If you wish to discuss Viola gameplay, the stickied Q&A/Discussion thread here is available for that.

I had to move all your posts to the new thread. Looks like I have to come up with a Viola SA posting rules/regulations thread just to clear up some doubts now. I thought I would not have to. -_-

PS: I will read through everything and reply again, seems like some good stuff is in here.

Okay, so going up against the CPU. The combo that starts with 3B, after I do that and proceed to juggle using BBB, I can't finish it with 7K because the cpu decided to move in mid-air, why is that? (I'm only able to do the first 2 B's, then the cpu moves, is basically what I'm trying to say.)

Sounds like air control...

The combo is done with A,A,B not B,B,B. That's why they are air controlling out.
