Sup guys, glad to see you guys are active again! For the past week I've been in contact A&C to confirm space for a tournament on Saturday June 29th. I would have had things confirmed with a tournament announcement thread already posted, but I've been having an issue with them in regards to the venue fee. Normally for Tournaments on Saturday they charge $10 for a venue fee instead of $5, and that's what they want for it. Meanwhile my vision for this tournament is for it to be $5 tournament entry with $5 venue, since this is a tournament to revive the community, I want people to have as much incentive as possible to come out and compete. I'm still waiting for an answer from them to confirm a $5 venue fee, but if we're expected to pay $10, I want the tournament to still happen but perhaps at my place or at Dino's, but ideally I'd rather have it at A&C since new players would be more comfortable attending their first tourney at a public venue rather than somebody's home.

Toronto SC REVIVAL Tournament.

Get hype. Let's see where everyone stands.

Glad to hear that you're still coming through with this tournament Amaury. Like I said a couple months back that I'd be down for this and it would be cool if it was at the A&C. I still go there regularly and would definitely support your tournament.

It would be amazing to have a tournament day where there was nothing but SoulCalibur (and maybe Soul Blade for LOL's).

Random question.. My understanding is that SC players arent' very fond of tekken juggles. Is that because the juggles are too long? doo too much damage? both? what is it?

it ain't just sc players, and yes they're too long. damage has nothing to do with it. combos in vf do as much or more damage, but they're over in 5 hits and you can get back to the godamn game.

Yes and yes. The issue is that juggles are basically what dominates Tekken's (particularly TTT2) gameplay and ends up undermining all the other aspects of fighting games such as the actual fighting. This is also why Viola was so damn annoying to fight in SCV.

Speaking of Tekken, I'm thinking it wouldn't hurt to allow Devil Jin at this point in the game's life, primarily as a means to draw more players in.

If he's allowed I could post tournament announcement threads on Tekken forums with an emphasis on Devil Jin being allowed.

This is just an idea for now, what do you guys think?

Expect a tournament announcement thread for the June 29 tourney in the next few days!

The only reason I am hesitant to agree is why was he banned in the first place and has that factor changed from then until now? if not, then I imagine devil jin would stay banned.

Personally I don't like the idea, but in the current state we're in, if we gave newcomers the benefit of the doubt and more players show up just as Jaxel did by banning certain characters back in SC4 for the East Coast, then I have nothing much against it.

The only thing I'm left concerned about is the integrity of the game.

Devil Jin was never banned because of gameplay reasons (infact SC5's director once tweeted that DJ was balanced for tournament play), but rather simply because CaS is banned, and nobody ever wanted to agree on a standard Devil Jin CaS setting. If we agree in an official DJ CaS formula for tournaments, such as size 3 male with DJ DLC items then we can make it work. Considering how long it takes to unlock characters like Alpha Pat and Algol, I don't think tournament organizers would be too inconvenienced with having to make a quick CaS character.

Honestly not only will allowing him potentially bring in Tekken players to our community, but it will bring something fresh and new to the tournament scene.

Ultimately it's up to the community. If you guys wanna give it a shot just this once and see how it goes then lets do it, worst case scenario is no Tekken players show up and Devil Jin isn't used.

I'll admit that in my own opinion I'd want Devil Jin to stay banned because I simply can't stand the character in SCV, however, at this point in the game I'd have no problem tolerating him if it meant a bigger tournament. But I also agree with Francis that it'll affect the integrity of the game. For instance, how will it look on stream if these Devil Jin CaS characters are beating up the main SCV cast?

It's a case now of: Do we want a bigger tournament turnout, or do we want the game to look legit to the FGC?

Trust me, I hate Devil Jin too. Fighting him is super annoying and he's not a character I enjoy using.

However, I've fought some really good ones online and have witnessed some very flashy combos and strategies done with him, and I think Devil Jin's flashy style can bring some high entertainment value to stream viewers which may overshadow your concern about how it will look to viewers. And if done right we can make a DJ CaS that looks great alongside the regular cast.

STILL THROWING OUT THESE ARCHAIC ARGUMENTS LIKE THEY ARE HELPFUL. PEOPLE WHO USE DJ AND DAMPIERRE AND EDGE MASTER SHOULD BE TOLD TO GO FUCK THEMSELVES, NOT PRAISED FOR THEIR IRRATIONAL PREFERENCES. TOURNAMENTS ARE SUPPOSED TO PROMOTE RAW SKILL, NOT LEAVE PEOPLE MORE SUSPICIOUS THAN THEY WERE BEFORE.

I’M SURE YOU’RE GOING TO BEND OVER BACKWARDS NOW TO TRY AND SUGGEST WHY FINDING OBSCURE EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE IS IMPORTANT, AS IF THE HARDCORE PLAYERS’ CONTENTMENT ISN’T ALREADY GOOD ENOUGH. THIS ARGUMENT OF APPEALING TO THE CASUALS IS OLD AND STUPID. NOTHING NEW HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THE TABLE. JUST ENCOURAGE THE COMPETITORS TO COMPETE, AND DISCOURAGE THE FRAUDS FROM WASTING EVERYONE'S TIME.

FEW PEOPLE ARE COMPETITIVE. THAT’S A FACT OF LIFE. IF THE SCENE HAS TO DIE, LET IT DIE PEACEFULLY. DON’T SELL OUT TO PEOPLE JUST TO REVIVE IT TEMPORARILY WITH SUPERFICIALITY. IT WON’T WORK IN THE LONG-TERM. ILLUSIONS COME TO AN END AND PEOPLE WONDER WHAT HAPPENED AS IF THEY WEREN’T BEING DISHONEST ABOUT IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

STREAM VIEWERS ULTIMATELY DO NOTHING FOR THE SCENE AS WELL. I DON'T SEE AN INFLUX OF NEW PLAYERS GIVING ME A CHALLENGE IN THE ARENA THANKS TO STREAMING. TREATING VIEWERS AS A PRIORITY SHOULD BE FROWNED ON. STREAMS ARE A FUN BONUS AT BEST.

The last couple sentences of that troll post is the only thing I actually agree with. While streams help support the game and community, it should never be placed as a priority above the actual competitors. When arranging this tournament I was given two options: $10 venue fee plus we get to use the stream equipment, or $5 venue fee and we don't use A&C's stream equipment. I chose to keep the venue fee at $5 and not use their equipment. I want as much incentive as possible for the actual players to show up. As for stream, I'm actually gonna try to bring my own stream equipment, hopefully it all works out.

Just because you are unable to respond to legitimate points, your unable to accept reality or you don't agree, does not mean thats a troll post.

As for this tournament I will not support it or attend, if other people want to thats their choice.

Also franman your avatar sucks.

And Sifu you got to try this "Kraven Manor" game. It kinda like slender.

This dude sounds like an angry version of me!
Legit points! Devil Jin wont bring any new players to the table. Point Blank!

I suspect someone has been practicing Devil Jin and hoping to troll their way to winning the tournament, because their last troll character got figured and no longer worked!!!
I.E ,...... "Awsome...no serious players use or even fight against D.J...Ill train up with him, the better players than myself at the tourney won't expect me to use him, and Ill troll my way to victory, cause he is O.P and not easy too fight aginst unless you know him inside out... Then Ill boast its because I got skillzzzz!!!!!! What a grandiose genius idea.. They wont see it coming from a mile!!!" :|

Why don't you want to support the tournmanet Eli?

I don't support this because of this DJ inclusion.
This "drawing people in" is a fallacy. To me this undermines us as a community.
The time for the DJ debate has long passed.

If the tournament goes by the standard rules, I would support it. As for attending I would confirm closer to the date.

Franman…. I feel like I'm losing numerous brain cell by trying to respond to you. Whatever your avatar still sucks.

This is why OOF Shouldn't run tournaments.

Anyways I have no problem with DJ. I dont know why anyone else should either. Sadly his time IS WAY LONG PAST OOF, and you Gimmicky Tourney is Late, and not Gimmicky enough.

As for Vints, I have no idea what he is saying. But he actually has the most excuses when he loses, like "it wasnt a MM, or it wasnt a FT10" etc.

As for A/C, I got no problem going there, just I REALLY HATE paying $5 when we can just as eaasily gather at someones house and have way more Freedom and Money in our Pockets. Stream is fine and dandy and good on paper, but people need to play the game before talking about streams.

Anyways I support DJ I Support AnC, But I already know thats going to be a Busy Weekend for me, But I'll know closer to the date.
