Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I agree that the number of stages is lacking, but I'm not convinced that the addition of new music demands them. It is often only a select few tracks from any individual game that are beloved by the majority. The rest inevitably fall into niche or obscurity. Nonetheless, I do hope new stages are being considered for future DLC. (preferably with the same degree of life and vibrancy that were present in SCV)

Ugh, there were a few stand out stages in SCV, but like all of the art design in that game there was something a little street fighter about them, particularly in the colour schemes. Also, what the f#@% was with all of the orcs and cave trolls and dragons in the background? I mean, why did the fantasy elements of an alternative history late renaissance of traditional Soul Calibur transition a straight-up Lord of the Rings knock off?* For my money, the highwater era for stage design was SCIII-SCIV. Both of those games had a large selection of varied stages (varied in terms of both visual aesthetic and stage features) and each stage looked simultaneously gorgeously stylized and like a part of a living, breathing (if somewhat fantastical) world. SCI & II were not slouches in this regard either, but the two games in the middle of the series really shown.

* And Dante, I know your brain is already formulating a response along the lines of "Well, in the New Legends of Project Soul supplement, pg. 59 we learn that rifts to the astral chaos...blah blah blah" but I'll save you the time. ;D It was an asinine change in tone, that's my point, no matter whatever canon or quasi-canon explanation there might be. Soul Calibur may have always taken place in a goofy fantasy world, but at least it had rules, sort of, until V...

better argument than "loli"
PLS just answer for one question.
SC have lot okay TWO pedololi (Talim + Amy) + captain Homolandia Maxi + Voldo (one of freakiest chars in fighting game).
But at the same time, authors of the game are shy (or correctly is "embarrassed"? sorry for bad english) to do something for most mass buyers (schoolboys).
Something like a Ezreal from the LOL, one of famous and most popular char in this game
do you think this situation is right?

Loli (ロリ rori), a Japanese slang term for a young girl who has not reached the age to sexual consent. The word is contracted from "lolita" (ロリータ rorita), which originates from the novel Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
FIGHTERSGENERATION claims that Maxi is one of most gay-looking chars in fighting games, and Voldo is one of most freak-looking chars in fighting games

Soul Calibur has always been high fantasy it just took a subtle background role. Taki blowing up the Oni in the Soul Blade intro, Lizardmen and a Golem in Soul Calibur, stone Colossus in SC3, dragons and a Oni boss called Geki in SC legends. It is jarring though to see orcs in the background being used as tools of war instead of these wild creatures that you can just stumble across in the world of Soul Calibur. I like the look of that battle field but having all those monsters there ruin it.

Yeah, sure enough, but the monsters all had a classical world feel to them, and aside from the colossus and Night Terror, everything was more or less man-sized and man-shaped. None of the straight up high fantasy shit that popped out of nowhere in SCV. Tell me one time before SCV that we saw an Orc or a Fifteen-foot troll or a dragon show up or even so much as be referenced? Fantasy the Soul Edge series has always undeniably been. Pop fantasy even. But a particular flavour of pop fantasy. And I don't really care too much--I mean, if anything I appreciate that some of those elements have no been preserved for CaS, which is great. But it just came completely out of nowhere!

I'm not sure exactly, he's been on this for a while--something about SCV having been a step in the right direction for character selection. But I can't entirely make out what he's trying to say and what I do understand makes me feel vaguely creeped out.

Dude, seriously, enough with all the sexual fixation:

A) No one but you is insisting upon viewing Talim or Amy in that way, and then accusing other supposed (read: straw man) players of having the obsession with them in those terms. I call he who smelt it dealt it on who is fixated on the "loli" status of certain characters. Besides which dude, you clearly haven't thought this through. The argument you were trying to refute was that Talim and Amy should have been included in SCV. If they had...they would have been in their mid-thirties. Oh, you forgot to add on the 17 years, didn't you? That's alright, math is tricky. ...Except of course that was the exact context in which they were brought up to begin with: people saying it was shame we didn't get to see what became of them or what evolved versions of their movesets would look like.
B) Your homophobic Maxi screed is just plain obnoxious and offensive. It's the 21st century homie--get over it.
C) Yeah...Voldo's a freak. I think we got that memo. That's who he's been for twenty-three years. Voldo being a gimp you don't want to f#&@ with has been the single most identifiable fact of the series since day one. I feel like if you haven't accepted Voldo for what he is, you really haven't accepted Soul Calibur.

Oh, and a final note SCV's roster: the less said about the replacement characters the better. Viola, Natsu and Leixia were cool enough movesets, but I feel like if Sophitia and Kilik had been able to see that their children were going to end up being Patrokolos, Pyrha, and Xiba, they probably would have let Soul Edge suck the world into the astral chaos just avoid that fate.

I'm really happy we finally get classic SoulCalibur BGMs, but looking at the track lists really highlights how few stages we have to work with. Most of the stages have obvious SC1 counterparts, but there are a few that I had to think about. This is my track pairing:
  1. Astral Chaos - Immortal Flame
  2. Cursed Moonlit Woods - Eye to Eye, Blade to Blade
  3. Master Swordman's Cave - The New Legend
  4. Indian Port - Sail Over the Storm
  5. Kunpaetku Temple - Bred from the Gap
  6. Ostrheinsburg Castle - In the Name of the Father
  7. Replica Kaer Morhen - Duelists
  8. Shrine of Eurydice - Wing of Faith
  9. Snow-capped Showdown - Chasing Downstream
  10. Sunken Desert Ruins - Beyond the Horizon
  11. Windswept Plains - Worth Dying For
  12. City Ruins - Unblessed Soul
I'm less familiar with SoulEge's soundtrack, so if anyone has any recommendations on which song best fits which stage, please feel free to share.
I just copied your picks since I'm not familiar with SC1's soundtrack and not a big fan of Soul Edge's soundtrack.

I'm pretty sure you get it from completing Grøh's Soul Chronicle, since it's a recurring theme that's used for his story. Maybe Azwel's as well.
I appreciate that! However, I realized that I hadn't entirely finished Libra after I killed Azwel. So Nameless Ordeal was unlocked after I finished Groh for the last time and got the trophy for tipping the scales on a certain side. 😉

LMAO
I'm picking Random for both mine and the opponent's characters in VS AI.

Battle 1: Groh VS Voldo
Battle 2: Groh VS Voldo, both using alternate colours.
Battle 3: Ivy VS Voldo

Gee I guess the game REEEEALLY wants me to stare at Voldo's crotch -_-

EDIT: Yeah Arcade hasn't been great for a while. At least Soulcalibur III had Tale of Souls which I thought was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the choices and hidden fights and stuff plus the playing out of the story.
Or it could be that Voldo just loves you. :sc2vol3:

Been watching some streams lately and it seems that ranked is dying as players are getting increasingly repeated match-ups with the same people. Has me worried. And that 1-2 win-quit...

this is the kind of stuff SCVI needs to keep people engaged and buying season passes. Even a year after SFV released, they added a demonstration section where they taught you what special moves do and when to best apply them. Matter of fact, I remember SCV had something similar in training mode.

@Rusted Blade

The guy doesn't speak English very well, he is an ESL speaker. Give him a bit of a break.

What David Blain is saying is that in his personal opinion SCV has the best character creation.

Uh, excuse me, but his being obnoxious has nothing to do with his limited facility to express himself in English (I appreciate people who try to bridge a linguistic divide) and everything to do with his specious arguments and outright bigotry. If you want to exhort his gaybashing and projection of his own issues with those younger characters on to others, you go right ahead. But he was directing his inquiries about his notions to me and I was done with the offensive nonsense. Even then, my first inclination was to simple ignore him for several days, but he kept pressing for a response, so I gave it to him: No, I do not think there is a problem with SC having the "gayest character in gaming" (whatever the hell that is supposed to mean) and no, SCV was not a great roster.

Damn, unaware there was gaybashing. I thought he meant the gayest characters in some sort of satire way. Man that ain't cool.

I mean. I liked the SCV roster enough. But I hadn't really had a proper attachment to the original characters when I got SCV, so I never really had an issue. To this day I kind of prefer Natsu's to taki though that's just personal preference.

I probably should of read the previous pages, but I read to quickly sometimes. Sorry for any issues, or if I looked like a scumbag.

Dead or Alive's quest mode is lacking compared to Libra of Souls, Soul Chronicle, Versus. Libra already checks most boxes what the old mission modes used to be. I would like it the currency exchange was adjusted to give out more gold. I thought about how in Arcade mode every seven minutes you can earn more gold than you can of seven minutes of spamming previous missions or actual missions on the map. And the Libra of Souls matches are generally harder the later in the game, give you more gold, yet the exchange feels unbalanced to prevent early farming. You wouldn't upgrade the town until the end of the campaign and it would be a nice reward if they decided to give you more. But who knows, I could have cheated myself because I never gave Thomas any money.

@SpellcraftQuill
I have noticed that my music glitched once in the options menu but never in the museum. And yeah the character select for the CaS has been been moving my cursor lately. I also used to notice that if you pressed up from Cas1 thinking you go to the lowest possible CaS you made sometimes you end up in the middle. But if you scroll back up you will end up at the bottom of the list.
And in regards to an original character returning with their own style. I feel like the old bonus characters that made their cameos, Miser and the others who actually be the ones to fulfill this role. Miser was using Mitsurugi style and had a gear on her back like the old giant shuriken. I thought that was a little funny. I don't think they let the Barbarian ever come back because it would be out of the nature of the style to have Siegfried's or Nightmare's powers.

@JohnMcKee @Ukkesh
I returned here after like 72 hours with all the new pieces. You two are channeling my sentiments exactly. I would like my characters to have more individuality because I end up having allot of CaS with the same face and I have to go out my way with tattoos and make up to differentiate them. But I would like those who are related to have the same facial features other than just matching faces. The Arcane armor is beautiful but I'm noticing that they are really going all in on these multi-layered objects. I will sacrifice clipping for originality and I was already dreading the accursed not compatible message. Siegfried's Requiem armor is nice but it would've been nice if the arms were not attacked to the chest. The Arcane armor though I would like to be unbreakable and instantly thought to make unbreakable, seems to be an embarrassment tactic to have your outfit stripped and reduce you to your default underwear. But I'm am looking at how there are a very limited amount of shoes and boots for the characters to wear, because they are usually attached to another part. Something that has always been a problem is that if you make a body part too wide that it will effect the armor bulkiness. And if you put certain layers on top of one of another it makes the bulkiness even bulkier. But I was playing around with the Archangel Wings and I had placed them on a new creation and noticed that the shoulders were smaller, so adjusting the pectorals of the male makes some shoulder plates that have that floating issue become more grounded. But that effects how your character's body looks like. I still want to be understandable because I am unable to reach out with the question if the team is taxed thin having to remake assets into the unreal engine is a issue where allot of these corners are being cut. But it's all progress because every creation system has moved forward in quality with each game.

As far as stages go I don't want to sound like I'm pulling strings from thin air but the remaining stages might have allot more detail put into them. Such as Ring out Transitions, or interactive environments. It could also be our next dlc packs in Season 2 because there is only 4 character packs.
