Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3

As if all the videos didn't prove it to me already but GAWD Dante's a beast! It's like me and my Hori RAP are in sync and straight stylin!

Too bad a one character 70 hit combo doesn't even begin to impress in a game like Devil May Cry 3. That shit was so hard to please.. ;__;

But not here! In Mahvel, baby, I love seeing that 60 hit, Issadelic ripped, combo before ending it with super!

I must have played arcade mode once, got Doramu's ending and went straight to Training mode trying to mimic every Trag and Issa combo on YouTube. Getting my combo drop rate down ever so steadily from 90% fail to around 48%.

So yeah, as you can tell, I love this game and I love using Dante!

I shut down a nice chunk of the scrub comp that I could tell use simple mode... But there was a few guys on PSN that whopped my Wesker/Dante/Doramu three ways to Sunday. Convincingly enough to consider picking up X-23 and Ameratsu. X-23 is definitely a beast so was this Super Skrull/Iron Man/Felicia team. :\ I'll be making some adjustments to my roster but guarantee Dante's gonna be starting QB! Really thinking of putting X-23 as my D-End (Anchor). Dude on PSN really impressed me with her.

I've swapped out Zero for Trish on my team. Trish has some nice power and speed and some trap setups. Her launcher range is fuggin HUGE to.

I may make a second team to use Zero as I really want to use him, but I like Trish a bit more right now.

Because of characters with solid offensive teleports and easy assist setups into launch combos, putting her on point is dangerous as hell. The best bet is prolly to have a defensive zoning duo that works well on its own without meter to wear down the opponent, build meter and avoid snapbacks into Pheonix rape fanfiction. But that's just a suggestion from an internet random, it's best to just play the game, screw around with options and have fun right now :U

Yeah, I thought about that, but not only do I lose patience when turtling, but, looking at her offensive options, she'd be insane with some of the better assists. Still, like you said, I'm going to try a bunch of things. Worse case scenario, I won't be playing with her.

Ok why cant you watch other peeps fight while your waiting to play again on online? This is 2011 correct? Other then that ish Loving the game Wesker is the beez neeze.

well after spending an evening exploring online, i have to ask myself one question:

Is excellent netcode a reasonable excuse for sucking majorus assus in every other possible facet of online play?

first of all, i wish to point out that this game does in fact have excellent netcode. i am a scrub at it, sure, but i can tell lag, and there has been very very little in all of my online games. kudos, capcom, you got that right.

too bad you got everything else wrong.

why does it fail when trying to join a room, player or ranked, about 80% of the time? i swear i get more failed/net error matches in this game than i ever did in any other game...by FAR. and when it fails...as it pretty much always does, why does it have to load and then send me all the way back two menus so i have to re-navigate there just so i can let it fail again?

why do people randomly and often get ricked out of rooms, both mine and others'?

why is there no option to shut off simple mode/filter players? before you all give me the "well if you can't beat simple mode players you are a scrub," or, "just beat them" bullshit, think about this...i am NEW to this game. i am a noob. i am just barely learning it. i do not want to have to waste my time trying to actually learn the game fighting people who are doing intermediate combos automatically by mashing square. i know it is scrubby. i know it is easily beaten if you are experienced, BUT I AM NOT. i wish to learn with other players of a similar mindset and on equal footing. is that unreasonable? capcom dropped the ball BIG TIME here, as far as i am concerned.

why can i not spectate matches? there is no excuse for making us sit in a lobby...an 8 man one sometimes...without being able to watch the damn match. that is straight up fucking retarded. to make matters worse, tap triangle one time on accident during your wait (which can be upwards of 20 minutes) and you are demoted to the bottom of the waiting list...to the end of the line. WHAT? DID YOU GUYS EVEN TEST THIS SHIT, CAPCOM?

why can i make a lobby named "rules enforced" or some shit, yet i can't make a rule, or any rules for that matter? and why can't i make a room with my own title?

why can't i play my own music?

this game is great. it is tons of fun. online play, though, is garbage in every possible way. worst online features...or lack thereof...that i have ever seen in any online fighter.

so to answer my previous question...NO. NO IT DOES NOT. sure, the one match that i get every 15 minutes runs smooth and awesome, but it isn't worth waiting 15 minutes for...especially when i'm probably going to just lose to someone actually worse than me mashing shit in simple mode.

overall scores:

gameplay: 8/10
graphics: 9/10
sound: 5/10
online features: 1/10
replay value: 8/10

that totals 31/50 as per the lobo rating system. 62%...

D -

and yet i recommend the game. please join hands, now, and prey with me. prey that namco fixes some of the mind-bogglingly stupid choices made in an easy peazy patch, so this game can get the A that i know it deserves.

I can't get away from the lag :/ I've been button mashing my combos hardcore because I can't get any reasonable reactions out of my characters. Kinda dissappointed with the game's online as of now. Also not impressed with the game supposedly helping players learn. There's no real hints to the combos. Most are easy, but I had several times where I can't find the timing...especially with assist combos...seriously...wtf? I heard you're supposed to do them at the same time as the last move? I need help here. Practice mode has some cool options...tho.

Still can't really dig into a good team yet since I've only touched 1/3rd the roster and online hasn't given me a single match to really test shenanigans on a real person with the lag :/ Anyone else on PSn having lag issues? My dumbass is playing wireless so that's not helping.

Determined to learn Phoenix. Was against it, but she's got some serious zoning power...mix in the teleport with those traps and homing projectiles...sexy stuff. Her ground traps have save me sooo many times from being combo'd to death. Not a bad idea to plant one and stay in front of it so when you get hit they have to travel thru it on combos. Seems she has tools to escape a lot of forced damage and save herself from getting chipped. I've been teleporting behind hyper projectiles, teleporting above and entering fly mode to avoid ground, using traps to reset break combos if i fell victim, spamming projectiles to beat out other projectiles. Can't really bring myself to use her healing tho.

Finally got a ataste of weskers super ambiguous cross up hyper. If "maximum wesker" whiffs the first hit, it's very likely to immediately cross up on you. Scary shit if they DHC into something meaner.

and Lobo you're filter "simple mode" argument...you are aware of the serious nerf that causes right? If you're really at a point where you can't beat simple mode with normal mode...then you need to learn OR you need to be using it as well. I played a simple mode and got beat the 1st time, but then i realized they didnt have a ton of tools and just abused the fact i knew some of the limitations, especially with they're normals. Just advancing guard, dive in, done.

I have the same problem with using the search functions to find a ranked match. You can solve this problem by playing in training mode or arcade mode, pausing the game, and turning on Fight Requests. I haven't had any problems connecting that way. I am pretty sure that Capcom will be releasing a patch to fix these issues. Patching has been a part of development for awhile so it should be expected by now, but when will the game get the patch it needs? Capcom has already said that they ran into problems making the release date by not being able to add in the two chars that will be available for DLC in early March. This, of course, is bullshit and Capcom is just out to make another buck, but I'm sure they have a plan to make it look like they are working hard.

i'm down for playing any of my old sc cronies in this game until it stops being fun. I play She Hulk/Dormammu/X23 right now, will possibly drop x23 for someone with a better cover assist.

IvyfanBoy, we can play some matches, I haven't found any lag problems..... yet, however, I keep finding players that ONLY use projectiles and that's it, I mean really if they wanna play like that I might as well choose Iron Man, Amaterasu, and Zero and spam the shit out of them, I don't complain tho, they always lose >=p

So far I haven't had any problems with lag. And turning on fight requests makes it easier to find matches. It did take a while for me to find one when searching manually, but that could be due to people still waiting to get the game and the time of the day that I was playing.

If anyone wants to play, hit me up. Don't expect too much because this game is ass. I having fun right now though. I just hope that I get more playtime from this game than I did with Street Fighter and Tekken.

I'm almost positive the rank searching is broken. I have yet to find anyone using that, it always fails. I smell a patch to fix this, and hopefully add spectator mode in March.

I'm going Megaman X, Mystique (am i the only one thinking she would be awesome?) or Carnage

I also voted for Mega Man X, Juri Han, Thanos. Psylocke, Legion, Ms. Marvel, Jedah.

I dunno, what can Mystique do besides morphing into another character? Kinda like a Shang Tsung.

and Lobo you're filter "simple mode" argument...you are aware of the serious nerf that causes right? If you're really at a point where you can't beat simple mode with normal mode...then you need to learn OR you need to be using it as well. I played a simple mode and got beat the 1st time, but then i realized they didnt have a ton of tools and just abused the fact i knew some of the limitations, especially with they're normals. Just advancing guard, dive in, done.

you 100% missed the point. first of all, i will absolutely not use simple mode. why on earth would i spend time learning the game completely wrong? even suggesting it is flat out insulting and shows right away that you and i are going into this with completely different mindsets. it is the difference between "i want to win online" and "i want to get good."

saying "you need to learn" is also bullshit. of course i need to learn. i need to learn with other people on the same footing. imagine if you could set a button to ivy iCS, the catch being that she could no longer SS, and play ranked matches. i could tell you all day, "well if you know it is coming then break a every time, scrub, or else just use it yourself." yeah, that would be awesome... :/

that is bullshit and you know it. i'm sure you would not regret all the time you spent learning iCS if i could suddenly come to the game brand new and do it with one hand blindfolded. there is absolutely not one redeeming factor to belittling players' efforts to learn the game.

i'm not opposed to simple mode as a means to entice scrubs, but let them play each other, or at least let me ban it in hosted rooms/ranked matches. i strongly disagree that it actually brings more players. going back to iCS...how many people would have just ragequit sc4 rather than learn to deal with it? eliminating the learning curve in a fighting game is fucking stupid. as it stands, experienced players laugh it off and deal with it, supreme scrubby noobs use it with ear to ear grins, and the people who are hurt by it are those like myself...people starting from square one and actually trying to learn the game. i don't think you have any idea how shitty it feels to lose to someone who doesn't even know what a quarter-circle forward is just because i don't know which moves are punishable yet and with what. sure, eventually i'll learn to shut it down, but why am i forced to be subjected to learn in an environment where i have to begin with a massive disadvantage? and yes, as someone trying to learn the basics of the game from scratch, it is a MASSIVE disadvantage.

finally, how on earth would that be a nerf? at the end of the day, the more skilled player should win, and that should apply to beginners as well. separating lazy ass scrubs from determined and focused scrubs is not a nerf, it is common sense.

Lobo, while I agree with your sentiment, Capcom's hands are tied here.

Let's say that for the sake of this argument, Capcom wanted to implement simple mode to entice players to buy the game. Whether or not it's actually effective is not the issue - let's just say that were their motives (ie: more profit).

If they implement a simple mode filter, then what is Capcom essentially saying to those who use simple mode? "You can't join a regular match because you're using simple mode?" or "Simple mode is great, but to play most players online you're going to have to use regular?" Even better: "simple mode are only for noobs and can't play in certain rooms?" That essentially beats the point of implementing simple mode in the first place - which is to entice newbies to play.

Again, I fully agree with your reasoning. It's more that I think that logic gives way to profits for this one.

how about capcom saying, "look if you don't know what a dragon punch is there is a 0% chance that you bought this game and are going to play it online."

...........

because that is the reality of it.

this is not going to increase profit at all. it lets you filter out people of a lower rank than you, doesn't it? so is that the same as saying, "look, if you want to play the guys who have gotten good you are going to have to work hard and get there as well" or "high rank matches are not for noobs you can't play there."

YES IT IS.

also, it isn't even a filter that is required. a big red flag over their name so that i could boot on sight would also be sufficient.

Ummm lobo...Simple mode restricts a LOT of your characters potential. Not only do you lose the option to select a lot of normals, you lose access to a lot of specials and hypers. So if they are landing combos they're not maxing out the potential by any means. I can't stress how limited you are in that mode and really what combos it gives you access too...are easy enough to do in normal mode you shouldn't feel like your at a disadvantage. Even mashing through the magic series with normal mode should give you something similar.

I don't think you've actually read what Simple Mode does and assume it gives you just simple commands of the full character. You're vastly self-nerfed if you opt for Simple Mode and the skills needed to match it in Normal mode is very low that you should be able to surpass it soon or at the very least match it. A Simple Mode player will not be able to compete with a decent player who understands even a few of the basics. If I'm correct all they get is:

Attack = L and will go LMH (or a basic series that works with that character).
Special = they only get 4 specials...so if you're dante...yeah lol
Hyper = only get 1 hyper!

You lose 2 or more hypers, a lot of specials for some characters, and no way to do M or H without comboing. I'm not even sure if you get your command normals.

If they did it to Ivy in SC4 it would be like if all my combos did half damage with no RO option and I would get SS and not iCS/CS. I would also have like 4 moves in each stance. So noooooo...

I would totally be on your side if they had more access to the character, but as of now I feel simple Mode is so nerfing it's not even an issue. Also as well as you play SC4, you should have a mindset on the game to be able to quickly surpass any issue you have with Simple Mode players even if you've never played a versus game. I think you're just misinformed. Try playing with Simple mode just to test how bad it is.

I've played both simple and normal. Simple nerfs you so badly, I can see it as only usable by people that just picked up the game because they heard its easy to play with a specific mode. Hell my fiancée hates fighting games other than SC and she was having fun with simple mode, so I can see how its designed to entice new people to the series.

So what if you lose to people online that are using simple mode? Thats like saying, you lost to someone online in SC4 spamming stupid attacks over and over, it means nothing.

Also wanted to offer a button layout for stick. Gonna try it when i get home, but it hybrids TVC with MVC and i think it will be more ergonomically viable for assist combos:

L | M | H | A1
S | * | - | A2

* = L+M+H if you want a button dash

So you get that nice TVC attack layout but the comfort of vertically aligned assist buttons like mvc2 and provides a lot of easy ways to do simultaneous press without doing hand gymnastics. The dash is also in a nice place if you opt for a button dash. Tell you how it goes when i get home ^_^

MVC3 is fun, but this game is aaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyuuuuuuuusssssss!!!!!!!!!!

I'm telling that, BBCS is a good game!Cs2 will be out soon enough, so you should atually try to learn it! =D

As for MvC3, it's already in dire need of a patch. The game had, like, ten-billion loketests and we still end up with this ish.
