[North Carolina] Let's make a scene

I apologize for tonight, fellas. I missed the post about the session at CFG and went there instead of creating an online room.

Hey guys, just curious if any of you will be attending the ReSe tournament in Charlotte, NC this Saturday for SCV?

I'll be there, mainly to take out Noel Brown and Andre in Marvel but I've been putting a lot of time into Calibur 5 so definitely will be in that as well.

Doug: I like the game personally. Step guard being gone is a really nice addition and I love that counterhit state on movement. People can't haphazardly run around without some risk, so B's have meaning again. My only gripe is the crazy hitboxes on some of the B's. With step being a risk, the rock paper scissors game should be more in effect where A's beat step, step beats B's, and all that. But when I side step a B pretty clearly and it still hits me because of the huge ass hitbox on it, or just like an obviously linear move like one of xiba's pole stabs, it kinda urks me.

That's just a minor gripe though. The damage is extremely high in this game, and guard breaks pretty easy. I think it'll make it overall pretty damn interesting. Even if the offense is kinda crazy, it'll be more fun to watch than old caliburs. Although, I think the system will favor certain characters.

I question some of the balance though. Natsu seems a bit... ridiculous. Maybe that's just not knowing the matchup but just her damage output alone is kinda dumb. There's no reason you should get half life almost off a safe low that you can cancel into an A to stop people from jumping over it.

Anyway, those are my main issues with it. Otherwise I think it's the best calibur since 2.

Oh supposedly some of the ATL guys are coming to RESE this saturday. Possibly even RTD!

Yeah, Natsu is pretty damn ridiculous. Not her moveset, but her damage needs a serious tweak.

However, the B's in this game, Daishi made it very clear that each B attack has a weak side and you must learn it to avoid their tracking. Some B's readjust after a certain animation such as Leixia's 44B and Mitsu's 4B. So you have to learn where they readjust and then step...

...which Q learned yesterday. :P

So I'm doing a SC5/UMVC3 game night at RUaGamer in Cary Friday night starting at 9pm. I'm offering 5 dollars toward admission to the first 6 people (2 taken already) that confirm via PM/phone. If you've never been to the place before, 5 bucks gets you 12 hours. Not that I'm planning on staying for 12 hours, but it'll cover however long we stay most likely.

The site: http://www.ruagamer.net/ (not my place, I didn't name it)

Both SC5 and UMVC3 will be on the 360. We will have at least two sticks. Not planning on running a tournament or anything, just looking to get some offline games in and meet some people in the area. Send a PM if interested in getting some offline games. Or friend Luncheon Loaf on XBL to take on Viola or GR/Doom/Sentinel.

Oh and I'll have a copy of the guide for both SC5 and UMVC3 on hand.

GG's last night. First time playing Calibur w/ Calibur players in 3 years. Was good to get my feet wet :)

Doug - Good to be back in the stage of history. That Pyr match up will be a good primer to help me learn to deal w/ pressure despite the loss of my best interrupts :(. Can't wait for Tira combos tho...lol. Skateboard

Brent - Good meeting and playing you. Looking forward to learning more about Hilde as well...and...get doug to play MGS1....that is all...lol

This something you planning on doing more regularly? I won't be able to do it this friday, but I'd be interested otherwise. Also, what would it take to hold it on ps3's in the future? That's the standard generally speaking and people like to play on their own sticks. You'll probably get a better turnout that way (considering people may just choose to gather at somebody's house so they can play w/ their own sticks otherwise).

Eitherway, thanks for organizing something like this.

I do own a PS3 too but not a stick for it. Anyone can feel free to bring a PS3 copy and their sticks to this place. They have both PS3s and 360s. I'll definitely try to do it more often, though I probably won't be able to front the admission for 6 folks every time. Really just trying to make some contacts without inviting total strangers to my house. :P

@ Villainous: I swear you play everything, lol. Well I hope to see you there and at Myrtle Beach next week! The game room is in the VIP area and club down below.

Bit of a late reply, but GGs to Brent and Ryan a few days ago. Also, good luck to all going to RESE tomorrow. I'm not going to this one, unfortunately, will be visiting family this weekend.

For some reason I can't find a ranked match online, and every time I enter a player room I get booted if I hit them for 1/2 life for being stupid. Looking forward to playing you guys tomorrow.

I heard that!!! lol

Wish i could play you guys offline but alas....
GGs to Will online bro, John play me sometime I havent fought a decent Viola yet

When are you usually online to play?

Q: I just realized we didn't get any Calibur matches in yesterday *facepalm*

I need some more Asta experience. Clint bull rushed the shit out of me, felt like if I knew what to do against that move I would have taken it. I doubt he normally uses it that much, probably was just like "wait this guy has no idea what to do, TIME TO BULL RUSH".

Yeah, I actually only got about 3 casual matches before the tournament. I was mainly doing commentary. I think all finals for all games should be streamed. But def think nobody got to play as much as they wanted, every time I was about to play against Big Boi someone kicked us off the tv to play a match.

Block it. It's negative on block so you should be able to do whatever you want to him after that :\.

-10 actually. So if you're playing Viola or Mitsu (who seems to be Astaroth-lite) you should have been able to get your offense going again. But then again, I'm not going to discredit Clint. He probably did that to make you aware he is willing to take the risk of relinquishing offense or getting his next attack stuffed.

Even tho its -10 keep n mind it has pushback properties so for most characters its kinda safe. I think even the guide says tht only natsu n alpha patrokolos can effectively punish it. Plus u hv to consider its online as well, just try to limit high attacks vs asty n fight em mid range is best so ur outta thrw distance n close enough so his long range moves arent as much a threat since da best ones r kinda slow. Hope this helps jon

-10 is huge. And I'm not talking about punishing it, I'm talking about you being at advantage after you block it. In some cases with risk/reward characters (like Mitsu tends to be a lot of the time) that's even better.

Yeah, we're not talking about punishing the move. 10 frames is enough to step back in and the opponent can't step immediately after having their bullrush blocked. Jon can then begin his offense.

Also, Jon wasn't playing online it was at the Charlotte tournament this past weekend.
