Soul Calibur 6 Discussion

Linkorz is right. They need a character with the head of a dog that fights by smell.
don't they already have a monkey that does that?

in all honesty though, i think the connection between E.I.N. and Z.W.E.I. should have been better explored.

and since no one else is going to look into soul calibur's financial viability, i suppose i'll have to take a crack at it. but it's almost 2 AM for me right now and i have a busy day tomorow. I'll look into it a bit, but i make no promises as to when i'll get the info posted.

SCV easily turned a profit last time around. There's no question that the series is financially viable.

yes, it was last time, but it's been a while. a new console generation has released since then and graphics are more powerful than ever, and as a result, production costs have went up.

it may appear to them that they could make a profit from the series with another game, but once all is said and done and the game is in people's hands, that's when the test begins. How many games will sell TODAY? is the series still well liked enough that, barring the unreliability of new players, the existing fan base will make the game a profit?

i don't mean to sound like a doom machine though. it's possible that the fan base is more than large enough to support the series today. but you have to admit. for a company that more or less IS the japanese arcade industry, to have a FIGHTING GAME that doesn't see an arcade release anymore is saying something.

Considering last we heard scv was scratching at 2 million sales in 2013, I'd say it pulled in some nice profits. Especially when you consider it was developed in a weekend by 3 developers in their spare time and had no advertisement to speak of.

that... is pretty impressive.

but you gotta be shitting me on the whole "developed in a weekend by 3 devs in their spare time" part. the no advertisement part i believe though, as i saw nothing outside of an article in game informer at the time... and a review i think.

Couldn't be more true

I just think that Project Soul was split to work on other BN projects. As i don't think, or at least i doubt it that this F2P abomination needed too many staff members from PS anyway so.

SCV was really finished VERY quick. Gotta still wonder how they did an almost balanced SC-game
well, considering that most of the characters just use altered creation mode faces and generic body parts, i can't imagine the models were all that hard to work up, even for the new characters. plus they had the assets from SC4 that they used. I mean, hell, sophitia's face didn't change at all when they transfered it onto elysium. same for Kilik, ivy, hellra-voldo, raphael... all of the returning cast. in fact, i think viola might have a modified version of amy's face, and i know from modding that nightmare's 2p model just uses raphael's face (spoilerz?). and let's not forget that nightmare and seigfried's SC4 models are in the game. hell, it's not rigged for use and crashes the game, but even kamikirimusi's model is in the game... not sure why though.

stages might have been the most work from a design standpoint, outside of animations for attacks.

as for the story mode, lets face it, they probably hired the more talented kids of the workers to come in and draw the scenes.

so balance is probably the one thing they spent time with. lol, the time spent certainly didn't go into a well thought out story mode or character personalities, that's for sure!

combine that with more moveset cuts than additions, (you can't really count pyrrha and pyrrha omega as two totally separate characters, especialy considering she's basicaly sophitia) and balance becomes even easier to achieve.

it's a bit surprising that it took only arround 8 months, but considering that they did use existing assets/movesets and didn't add a lot of content, it makes sense. just think of what they could have achieved in a whole year.

i've just thought of something... another hurdle to jump over... or rather, two enormous hurdles...

yes, it may be time to address the "anita sarkeesian" issue that is Ivy... SJWs would probably unite against the game. i think this is something that people need to be concerned about. Tecmo Koei DID use that as the reason (true or not) for not releasing DOA X3 outside of japan.

tekken doesn't really have a risk of this, but to be fair, it's rarely done anything as risque as Ivy's outfits before. not to mention... no tekken girl is as well endowed as ivy either.

so large rack + clothing so small you may as well not be wearing it (Ivy's SC4 outfit) = shit storm from "feminazis".

Considering that such a thing could indeed affect what we would see in a localization of SC6, i certainly think it's worth discussing.

i mean, there is that rumor that SC6 got canned simply because the devs couldn't decide how big to make ivy's "counterweights". (was that ever disproved?)

thoughts? anyone?

(note: i am NOT anti feminist. i am against what feminism has turned into lately. i'm pro equal rights, but i'm anti sarkeesian. and i'll leave it at that.)

EDIT: i had said that tekken never did any outfits as risque as ivy's... that was wrong. in TTT2, Anna has an octopus outfit that... well frankly, it makes ivy's outfits look tame. so i altered the line.

BTW I was thinking, Soul Calibur Facebook and Twitter accounts were active until around last February.

Tekken 7 was planned for for Early 2017, but got push to June 2nd for "some reasons", release date was announced in 23 January.

Hum... wonder if those those events have some kind of links. Like for example Soul Calibur RP decide to hold back a bit a stop their activities to tone down the hype a bit, for now. Cause since T7 is pushed, SC6 announcement will obviously follow too by getting pushed as well.

June is gonna be super exciting, Tekken 7 console launch, and MAYBE... first thing we'll hear about a new SC (i mean, maybe)

I don't know how business work in general, but i know for sure that they won't talk about SC6 before T7 console launch, but i don't know if they can talk about it 2 weeks after, seems to soon, but could be possible though.

i get what you mean. keep quiet about SC to boost hype for T7... but that would indicate that alot of SC players play tekken too. i guess that's possible.

but it seems like a bad idea really. that would be like saying "you like soul calibur? too bad! buy tekken!" from a PR standpoint... that's idiotic. well, let's just say that if you're right, and people find out that's the reason, (becuase people aren't stupid and 1+1=2 isn't a hard equation) then it would be a literal shit storm for namco.

really, i don't understand the push for tekken. if it has that much more popularity than soul calibur, then why worry about it? is soul calibur really that much of a threat for tekken on consoles? i knew it was more popular, but that was based on a years old statement. with the release of various tekken games on the PS3 and not nearly as many soul calibur games, can it still be said that tekken wouldn't do as well with the possibility of a new soul calibur on the horizon?

it wouldn't make sense to damage the more popular game in favor of the less popular one if the dynamic is as it seems.

The Japanese of all people really don't give a fuck about sjws man. You can still buy an English version of doax3, it just didn't have an official release in the west. I'll tell you why, too. It's not because of sjws or whiny bitches, it's because that kind of game just doesn't sell in the west in general. Not enough to warrant the cost of an official release.

Aside from that, sjws wouldn't give a fuck about soul calibur anyway. It's not a big, obvious target like GTA or something. They don't actually play video games.

Tekken is just as booby as soul calibur anyway. Basically every fighting game is. Just look at how stacked chun li is.

And she's not even the verified titty monster in that game.

Also, it'll probably be a few months at least until we hear official word on sc6.

I think you guys are thinking too far, it's not about that at all, i think Namco are totally aware that there are some SC fans that will never be interested on Tekken, just like some Tekken fans that will never be on SC. (I love and play both, so idc about that.)

& BTW, Tekken is still the most selling fighting franchise, so probably more popular than SC worldwide.

It's just a business law and that's all, Capcom announced Marvel VS Capcom Infinite after SFV release, just like NRS announced I2 after MKX. Do you think it was possible for those companies to announce one game before one of those would be release? no of course not, there are business planning and such. There maybe probably as well other good reason they won't announced both of those games. Same can be said for other genres, Rockstar will never as well announce a new GTA game before the next RDR release, and vice versa.

really, i don't understand the push for tekken. if it has that much more popularity than soul calibur, then why worry about it? is soul calibur really that much of a threat for tekken on consoles?

That the thing you don't get acutally, sure from you perspective, from mine as well, it won't damage anything, i will buy both new SC and T7 day one, no matter when they'll announce SC6, now, or after T7 console release. But for the big audience perspective, those who buy new Fifa and COD game each year, or kind of, it can definitely damage Tekken 7 Marketing and sales (at least i think so,and that's how i see things, it just make too much sens for me).

I'm pretty sure SC6 is happening right now, probably being discussed right now behind the scenes, if not already on its early development, and i bet they'll use UE4 and Tekken Team will probably join PS to accelerate the process, i'm seeing new hint at E3 at earliest, if not maybe TGS, and then a release less a year after.
