SOULCALIBUR 6: News, leaks and information discussion.

I didn't think they could make a more bland and generic breakdown than the Sophie video but they really went the extra mile and proved me wrong.

Such a waste of potential... I am getting really tired of watching the same footage all the time.
I hope story mode won't be as bland as those breakdown videos they are doing.

I don't like the way they are doing the reveals... The hype is decreasing.

I know Bamco's marketing is always a bit eh outside of anime games but surely they realise 6 weeks between new information isn't a good way to get people excited for a game. Hopefully we get more soon, I'd rather have 1 character reveal every couple weeks than 4 characters after a month and a half of nothing.

Nah, the batches are better. I remember when they revealed stuff like Lucky Chloe and Bears by themselves, everyone would get pissed until a good character was shown. At least in groups you are likely to appreciate at least one character.

God, I would hate working for those guys and being in charge of any social media whatsoever. Could you imagine being part of a team working on a game and getting the go ahead to release a character that everyone's been working real hard on only to be met with scorn from a bunch of screeching idiots and nothing else? I'm surprised they tease anything at all.

Wasn't Lucky Chloe only badly received in the US though and people liked her everywhere else? I remember them even joking about replacing her with a bald bodybuilder in the US version of the game.

At any rate I hope there's some new info in not too long (or at least an indication of when we'll see some), there's only so long we can discuss one demo for.

At least it's better than the marketing for SC4 and SC5. SC4's announcement trailer was just a few zoomed-in shots of CG renders and little else. The first proper trailer with gameplay had no audio besides music, and it looked like they just recorded some generic gameplay and called it a day.

They did a lot of better work with SC5's trailers, but the reaction to those trailers was stuff like "What do you mean Sophitia's dead!?" - "Who's Natsu? Where's Taki? WHERE ARE MY BALLOON TITS!?"

SC6's first trailer was well made and even featured gameplay. And then we got a new trailer a few days later, alongside a ton of gameplay footage. Only thing I wish they had done differently was announce the game earlier in 2017 so people in the community would have spent fewer nights crying themselves to sleep.

The thing about Chloe and bears was more about how they were revealed and the timing of their reveal.
Well, they're not really appealing, now, are they? Lucky Chloe is extremely anime, much more than most of the cast, and the bears were never a big deal, specially because they're quite similar in gameplay. It would be like if they revealed Patroklos in the next trailer with Rock and a guy that plays almost exactly like Rock. The first is hated, the second is a dead weight and the third is a clone of the dead weight.

Why is each sequel taking longer and longer? Development time?

Sc2 2003
sc3 2005
sc4 2008
sc5 2012
sc6 2018
Let them work, the time it took for SC5 clearly wasn't enough to finish the game, the gameplay was cool, but the rest was garbage. I said it before and I'll say it again, Zelda Breath of the Wild was delayed A LOT and it ended up being the best Zelda game and GotY material, Nintendo wanted to give us an excellent product and the delay helped them polish it. I don't expect SC6 to be GotY material, but I'd be really happpy if it ended up being the best SC game.

Project Soul has been in a really rough spot since SC4. The team was disbanded after finishing SC: Broken Destiny, so that delayed development of SC5.

And then after SC5, some of the leads were kicked off Project Soul, and the next game they worked on was Soul Calibur: Lost Swords. I haven't seen any mentions of it, but I wouldn't be surprised if Project Soul was disbanded yet again after that so they could work on other projects (ex-Project Soul members worked on the newest Smash game and the Pokken games). And Harada has confirmed that SC6 has had development troubles (he implied the game wouldn't have been finished if Okubo hadn't stepped up to assume the role of lead producer for the game).

I'm certain we would have seen a new SC game every 2-3 years if it weren't for all of the above.

Short summary: Namco is a bunch of poopybutts.

Yeah, the series has technically died twice. They rebooted it with SCV and now they're rebooting it again since that didn't quite work.

In all honesty I don't remember ever watching a single trailer for SCIV in the internet (or at least one that actually left a good impression on me) and got my news from a gaming website (I think it was Siliconera), only did I watch a trailer for it on TV actually. I do remember the trailers for SCV and it really made it seem like the story was going to be amazing. Too bad it was far off.

So far I like how they are showing off each character they reveal in each trailer so far. The music, the fighting and the stingers in the end are well done. My only complaint that I have is that they are not showing off any modes or anything for single players and I don't want them to just reveal it when they are about to release the game in a few months. (and I do not just mean character creation, which we all know they are going to include anyway.)

Absolutely agree, I really like the way they're anouncing characters, if you think about it they're waiting for events in order to reveal new info; They anounced the game at The Game Awards, and the next announcement was on EVO Japan.

Honestly it is the best way for the maximum number of people to watch the trailers and get interested in the game, if they do like only a youtube video and a tweet only a few people will see the new info, and also revealing characters in groups is a good idea because of what you said. I feel like they're making the right decision doing it this way.

As for characters, obviously.. Voldo better be in this game or im going to break my spine doing the bridge and run all the way to japan that way to protest. This will not be a pleasant thing.
My roster rule of thumb is if they pulled some non-aging bullshit on your character to keep you in SC5, then they consider you too essential to cut.

Mitsurugi looks so good in this game... some very high level juggles possible with his stances it seems...

Were his juggle opportunities anywhere near as good in previous SCs?

The combo in the start of this video WAS in SC4, fyi. And Mitsu was alarmingly annoying and top tier in that game.
