Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Here's a question - do you guys think that SCVI will take cues from Tekken in the realm of unlocks?

I'm kind of hoping we *don't* end up with anything like Treasure Battle. I'm not big into RNG CAS part unlocks.

You'd have to explain how Tekken unlocks stuff, darling.

So long as there are no dupes RNG may not be a problem.

You earn currency by playing online or offline that can be used to purchase a bulk of customize parts, but character-exclusive items are obtained exclusively as random drops in high-tier treasure chests that are strictly obtainable through as rare drops in Treasure Battle Mode (consecutive battles against increasingly difficult AI opponents) or by winning online tournaments.

Classic SC allowed for unlocks via reaching level milestones, which is ideal.

I think we could have both. I remember that SC3 had stuff you unlock by finishing certain stages or fighting certain enemies as well as CaS parts and weapons you could buy with gold, but everything could also be unlocked via level milestones too. Randomness in unlocking is stupid, it should never happen in any game, and it shouldn't ruin SC. Its hard to balance currency, though, because sometimes it feels like you gain way too much, and sometimes it feels like you gain too little, so, maybe just going for finishing stages and levels would be better.

Tekken 7's customization had most of the pieces locked behind different amounts of gold. Character specific pieces were only found via special battles in the treasure mode or in chests won in online tournaments.

However, once you reach 2000 matches played (combining online and offline) the game unlocked everything for you, save the character specific stuff that was from DLC chars.

Money was also really, REALLY easy to come by. At no point did I ever have to grind out battles for cash so I could buy more items.

I'd be happy with T7's system.

Money wasn't an issue for me. Playing online gave me more than enough money. I didn't like having to play and grind a game mode that didn't make me any better at the game for the *chance* to get the items I wanted.

I'd have liked the ability to get chests by playing ranked.

I thought sc3's unlocking had it right. I forces you to play story with every character and play each of the SP modes including COTLS.

On the topic of COTLS, if they include it in sc6 I will be ecstatic! That means (hopefully) a whole bunch of new move sets. Only problem with that, they need to spend time on the move sets for proper balance, since we all know what happened with sc3 :). IF they are balanced, they can be tournament playable.

This is all wishful thinking of course, I know it probably won't happen, but damn it would be awesome.

That created costumes idea sound awesome...but what about CaS donwloadable content, because there will be CaS dlc clothes for sure, and what if you want to share a costume with dlc parts that your friend doesnt have?

I need to just know if they will finally let you morph the facial features with sliders (like in RPG games) now or if they at least will let you choose individual face parts to create character faces. CaS won't mean anything to me unless we can do that now.
Yeah, face sliders should be a must have...just having preset faces are pretty lame and limites creativity

Yeah, that really sucks. I tried to make Sophitia in SC5 with my recently bought Elysium CaS parts, but I didn't get a good face, because its either too baby, too angry or too asian looking. That sucks.

Whatever DLC was used would probably just not show up on the character. And if that were the case, whoever downloads the character could just use a piece of equipment to replace whatever was removed.

I agree, I spent so much time on dynasty warriors facial sliding and customisation in 8, and it was not really that complicated, if they toned it down a tad, it should be within the ball park.

I just really want facial sliders... :(

Interesting stuff-
Ivy symbol is a Rod of Asclepius, which is representative of the duality between the physician profession, dealing with health and sickness, which is indicative of Ivy's ruthless but well intentioned nature I would think.

Zas on the other hand has the Ouroboros a symbol often associated with vicious cycles.

Both were used in Greek iconography but Ouroboros is thought to be originated in Egypt, however the important take is that both were also used as alchemic symbols, which ties with their respective characters amazingly well.

The only thing with sliders I'd worry about is if they don't give you enough options. The worst we could have is something like Bethesda's last gen ones which were terrible, or in general sliders that don't let you alter enough. With the artstyle being very anime-ish for SC, I don't know how much of the face they'd let you morph. You might be set with just changing the sizes of features rather than letting you shape them.

I don't want general traits either like nose = 1 slider, mouth = 1 slider. As in games like WWE or Saints Row, you can alter the nostrils, bridge, lips, eye angles, spacing, mouth height, etc.
