Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I'd rather Cass have a new single shortsword/saber style than hammer and shield. never been a big fan of hammers, maces, or axes as weapons.

though I suppose smashing people with a hammer/mace would fit Cass's personality......lol.
that said. I wouldn't mind Aeon's dual axe style. that would be once exception where I'd be interested in an axe style.

I kind of wonder if maybe Lizardman being called Aeon and wielding two axes from the start might end up being the one little bit of detail the devs retcon for SCVI to be completely consistent with V. If you take out the spontaneous wings and firebreathing nonsense, I think you have a good argument for Aeon's moveset being preferred as more of the basis for the new style than classic Lizardman; honestly, the axe and shield were always a little bit of clumsy match and yet at the same time, didn't do as much as could be done to distinguish him from the rest of the sword and shield crowd. Kind of an awkward, in-between phase in the evolution of the style, even if it does represent the balance of his time in the franchise. A mix of old-school and Aeon-based moves (again, leaving the magic flying nonsense out--it's not just tonally absurd like most of SCV, these moves were also scarcely used in high level play) would give some new life to the character and set him apart in an increasingly diverse cast that nevertheless is going to have two sword and shield movesets.

Still more practical and more maintenance friendly than swords. If an axe or a bludgeon breaks, swap the shaft. If a sword breaks, it's rendered useless.

I think it's safe to presume all weaponry in Caliburverse is made out of indestructabitanium, based upon all evidence to date.

SoulCalibur III disagrees, where Cassandra breaks the Omega Sword in her ending. Plus, in general, those characters who wield Soul Calibur or Soul Edge in SoulCalibur III, their weapon gets broken by Abyss, and they pick up their respective sword.

Or if we want to go way back, in SoulBlade/SoulEdge, weapons actually did break in that game and you could have to fight with your bare hands.

Out of all the mechanics that have been dropped through the series, thankfully that one was dropped early. Apart from, say for example a turn based team RPG, durability meter doesn't belong in action games.

Ok yeah, you got me there--that's was a rather obvious oversight on my part.

I have often wondered if bringing back the classic clash-leading-to-struggle mechanic might not be fun. At first it felt like RE was going to play outa little like that, as a quicker little locking horns dynamic--and indeed, I would have preferred that to what we ultimately got, as I think RE disrupts the flow of a fight to a far greater extent than it needs to.

RE is without a doubt the evolution of that clash mechanic as that was also a rock, papers, scissors mini game and yeah RE is universally thought of as disruptive to the flow of the core mechanics. There's really no way both systems can be incorporated into a Soul Calibur game in any meaningful manor due to them being disruptive and luck base. RE was a decent experiment but it should be taken to the dustbin if Project Soul make SC7.

Agreed--or it at least needs to be re-engineered from the ground up. By far the most tedious new mechanic introduced in a long while, and possibly my least favourite feature of VI.

It can't because the core mechanic is the rock, paper, scissors which is luck base. RE is one hell of a decent attempt at the luck base game because the stuff they put on top of it gave it decent depth, more so than some half arsed attempt like say a RPG numbers game but even with that it doesn't work in a competitive fighting game.

Should Aeon/Lizardman become DLC, I’d love to see that return over his axe and shield style. Though it’s pretty unlikely it will tbh.

:sc1liz1: have more votes than :sc5aon1:. I think they need respect the results from poll.

Aeon and Lizardman are the same, too, it's really a dumb distinction to make and split his votes. Yes, his name wasn't "Aeon" until he became an angelic dragon lizard, but his name was always Aeon, from the very start, in his biography. Whether they call him Lizardman or they call him Aeon is irrelevant to what moveset he gets, really, but just up and stealing Kratos's moves was kind of a bit silly, in more ways than one. They seem to agree with that, considering the return to form for the "Lesser Lizardman" style, which Aeon himself also uses in Libra of Soul. The only rostered "Lizardman" that wasn't Aeon was SoulCalibur II.

Except they’re both the same character.
Yes, they are the same character but Project Soul decided to separate them to better evaluate what to do with him. 128 people vote for Lizardman and only 58 liked the Dual Axes upgrade.
Particularly I have no problem with "Lizardman" as DLC, I just don't like Aeon's digimon moves.
I think there was a misunderstanding in my previous post, so I tried to be more clear on that one. ^^

People making their own tierlist, but in the end it also depends on the character you play and your play style. Imo the balance of the game right now isn't that bad, maybe outside of the exception of 2B that has things that obviously looks too ridiculous.

Soul Edge gets broken in almost every game, truly the weakest blade in the series Kappa.

Let's recheck that statement

Soul Edge: Broken by Taki and Sophitia
Soulcalibur: Broken by Soul Calibur
Soulcalibur II: Broken by Raphael
Soulcalibur III: Broken by Soul Calibur, stays formant 90% of the timeline of the game
Soulcalibur IV: Broken by Algol at the prologue
Soulcalibur V: Broken in the prologue, broken in the epilogue alongside Soul Calibur
Soulcalibur VI: Broken by Soul Calibur... Retold

Thereby:
Soul Edge gets broken in almost every game, truly the weakest blade in the series Kappa.
