Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

well, Edge Master already has a story mod portrait ( that's fairly detailed instead of generic random guys who always looks the same ).

not sure how I'd feel about Dampierre when there are so many other characters, both returning and new.

wasn't he a joke character, like Dan in street fighter? I'm not much a fan of joke characters taking up precious roster spots.

would rather have some past obscure character like Ashlotte (sp?) be made into a full character with unique moveset and story.

I wouldn't worry about it--there's zero chance it's Dampierre:
  1. The fact that "three characters that happen to be in his name are also coincidentally the three that correspond to the transliteration for "Yell" (but only if we ignore the first half of his name and the fact that the phonemes aren't even the same in both cases) is the weakest of weak sauce evidence.
  2. Dampierre is quite possibly the least popular character in the history of the franchise (if he's not the character with the least advocates, its because Necrid exists).
  3. He appears far later in the narrative than any other character that the devs have confirmed or hinted at to date.
  4. He falls outside the scope of the only games that have contributed any character to the game so far.
  5. He was a divisive addition even among the developers who created him.
  6. There is an infinitely more likely choice for 'YELL': Li Long. Well everyone's more likely than Dampierre honestly, except for the SCIII bonus characters...maybe.
  7. If Dampierre were included, and all of the other characters are who their codenames suggest the to be from the translation/synonym comparisons, that means that he would be replacing the one and only character (again, Li Long) from SE-SCIII that the devs otherwise chose to include. They're gonna pass up the opportunity to assemble the complete classic cast, by just one character.....for Dampierre!? I don't think so.
If Dampierre is 'YELL', I'll eat my game pad.

Hmmm maybe "YELL" is Bangoo? Since his name probably doesnt mean anything so it cant translate but every time its spoken, its yelled, by Rock. That could also explain the order. First Rock, then Bangoo.

maybe Yell refers to a brand new character?

That's always a possibility. Or a guest. But call me a broken record, but I keep coming back to that one factoid: they would really come within one character of assembling the classic cast, and then not go the extra inch? After increasing the size of the second season pass to exactly the number of characters it would need to accommodate him, and filling in the other five spots with the remaining faces? It just doesn't seem likely to me.

also, besides Devil Jin, are there any "bare handed" fighting styles in Soul Calibur history?

There's also Heihachi Mishima (Jin's Grampapa and fellow Tekken alum), in the PS2 version of SCII. I kind of hope they include Kazuya at some point, in some game; I like having a brawler in the mix, and he's the remaining Mishima (Jin's father, Heihachi's son) who could continue that strain of Tekken representation.

I see, thanks.

I would like to see some kind of bare hand/fist style in the future. maybe some kind of CAS specific style like Devil Jin?

^thanks.

I just looked Valeria up. and see, I'd rather have characters like her and Ashlotte return as fully fleshed out characters rather than someone like Dampierre.

I doubt they would do that again. It takes a very trivial amount of time to create a model for a character compared against the moveset itself. The circumstances that led to them releasing that character without his model are that the SCV dev team was given inflexible deadlines and limited resources and they barely put together the game that they did by the release date. At least, I certainly hope any future production teams are not put in that situation again.

Valeria from SC3 was bare handed. Probably the only bonus character that wasn't a bootlegged copy of an existing one.

Well, she was bare-handed, but not exactly weaponless.

But here you go @Project Bokuho, for a presumptive Valeria fan: Monty Oum's homage (and certainly not the first or last time that he referenced SC), and Dennis To rocking the style in a rather over-the-top (but still aesthetically appealing) Soul Calibur manner as well.

God i'd cry if they actually put in Valeria but that isnt going to happen.

Im gonna officially change my prediction from "cant tell who it is" to the following:
Rock, Lizardman, Setsuka, Hwong, .. the last two are unsure.
Star is either Yun or Algol. I hope to god its Algol but i doubt it.
Yell is either guest or Bangoo.

I always thought the dagger and bomb style was rather unique. Sure, Link and Taki have bombs, but it wasn’t quite the same combined with the dagger’s acrobatics and attack styles. Not really sure why this style was slept on. The lance was arguably represented with Hilde and the wave sword with Algol, but the dagger got left at the bus stop with Li Long and Hwang. But yes, the grieve edge style was pretty cool, and if they wanted to bring it back, I’d be for it. Also the extending staff was a lot cooler of a silly joke style than Dampierre ever was.

I liked almost all of the bonus styles, honestly--or at least, I thought they had potential. In a perfect world, they would be the characters included in season passes 5 and 6, expanded to full movesets, of course. Ahhh, fantasies!

it's all fantasy when we don't officially know the final 2 characters in Season Pass 1...…..lol.

Yell is either guest or Bangoo.
Man, Seung Mina = Bangoo
