Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I've a question where did they say we were going to get the Cas DLC this month?
Project Soul Livestream (Dec.26th)

CaS DLC
  • The two packs will have over 100 pieces in total.
  • The first set will be a mix of new parts, parts from previous games and parts from past characters.
  • The release of the first pack will be the a primary focus after the 1.1.1 patch drops. No firm release date given, but should be 'soon' after the Jan. patch.
  • The first CaS pack will also include additional BGM tracks from the older games.
  • They will also release some extra CaS parts for free. They haven't figured out the details for this yet, but it is on the cards.

They never did say so; people have just been getting a little ahead of themselves. As Lisa notes above, the devs did say that the CaS "should" follow "soon" after the January patch, which people then took to mean "within January", which frankly was always a little over-optimistic (as was pointed out at the time by, uh, no one in particular :). "Soon" is a pretty relative term in the game development arena, but I do believe it's probable that we will be seeing the content very early in February--others have posited that Namco likely wants to announce Cassie and Amy formally at EVO (who knows, maybe season two as well, fingers cross?) and I think they are going to want a slack the expectations of the fanbase before that in order to leverage as much hype as possible before hand. Of course, no amount of marketing preference can guarantee such timing if the work is just not there yet, but all factors considered, I think we're looking at a time frame of a couple of weeks out the outside, and potentially as soon as the next few days. That's largely speculation though, so take it with a grain of salt; I don't want to contribute any further to frustrated expectations.

He's basically admitting the DLC characters were leaked by programmers (possibly accidentally), but due to how the game's marketing has already been pre-planned they can't just come right out and prematurely reveal them, even though it's already public knowledge.

On a lighter note, I'm glad he has a sense of humor.

Yeah, it's certainly still at least somewhat possible that Amy and Cassandra were never meant to be leaked in that fashion, but given that the Codenamed Six almost certainly must have have been intentional, it creates some doubt (though indeed, Amy and Cass were suspicious even before that). It's possible Namco leapt on an opportunity as soon as they saw the potential (afterall, Amy and Cassandra did not cute little reference names), but there's still a good chance the whole thing was engineered from the start. And you can hardly blame them: it's all upside, marketing this way (low cost, high effect, and no one can blame you if you backtrack). Still, it does make Okubo's "Oh, I couldn't possibly comment as to that." feel just a tiny bit disingenuous! ;)

I’m a very long time fan, but even I can see that my love for the series is nostalgia-driven. I would honestly be shocked if there is a season 2.

The game has nearly 0 presence on YouTube and Twitch. Now-a-days, that’s a death sentence. Streamers and content creators can see a noticeable dip in viewers for SC related videos. No kids = No game.

I want to be proven wrong, but that would involve a turnaround. The 8wayrun’ers haven’t migrated magically to discord. I will keep playing and supporting the series I love, but there is nearly 0 community oomff in an industry that demands it.

I recently went to a tournament in London (that’s the capital of England to you plebs,) and the footfall was nearly as low as the enthusiasm.

Uh, not sure if this is just me, but I think there's an update coming soon. Just got this pop up on my xbox, it says there's an update, but we can't get it yet. Anyone got this?

Hey Zanaken, I feel you on all of those points, and the reasonable conclusions you reached because of them, but I'm about to make your day, since you seem to be unaware of this: about a week back, following the second most recent patch, someone found reference values in the games code to a further six more DLC characters (after Amy and Cassie); they were codenamed but in a rather obvious fashion that alludes to six classic characters ('Stone', 'Reptile', and so-forth). So it does indeed seem that, at least at this time, Project Soul are anticipating moving forward with the a second season. Furthermore, it seems sales have actually continued to do quite alright for the game thus far. It may not be a darling of social media, but (at least in this particular case) that doesn't seem to map to how well the game is doing and whether or not Namco views a second season as viable. A lot can change in the next few months of course, but Season Two, if not a lock, is certainly a very high probability at this point.

UPDATE:
My tv seems to be glitching, but it seems to be downloading an update for SC!

Anyone think it might be the DLC rolled out too early?

UPDATE:
Xbox live is down.

Can somebody check if there is an update?

UPDATE THE THIRD:
It appears that there is indeed an update. I can't seem to access the game even when I'm trying offline? There MUST be something

Imo they blew it when they just put CaS characters on all online mode all over again, the most popular tweets for SC in its early days were peoples playing w character w big D**** and other weird stuffs, and i don't think it was a good marketing and hype tool for the game. Also now i think about it there should have been at least 1 or 2 other new characters, as i think new characters are very important to bring new players into a fighting game franchise.

Imo if there is season 2 they should put on it like 2 brand new characters.

I love the game and i think it's the best SC since 2, but there are few things that they could have done better imo.

Why didn’t they think to allow the Shapeshifter to use any part from any race? It should be able to shape shift horns and a tail if it wanted to.

Because that would make too much sense, of course.

I think the better way to phrase the question is to ask why did they choose to name that race a shapeshifter at all? I mean the gear part can make sense: the shapeshifter might be able to change its own appearance to limited extent to look like someone else but not be a shapeshifter in the T-1000 sense. The problem is, we aren't given any sense of what they are supposed to be and no indication that they can do either. Unlike virtually every other race selectable, they have no previous presence in the franchise, and pretty much the only reason they seem to exist is so that CaS creators can create characters with polished metallic bodies. Which, you know, is reason enough for their inclusion, don't get me wrong. But you could have called them anything and not raised all of those questions. I can only presume that the name is a nod to that trope of a "liquid metal" entity started with T2.

I just checked Steam, there is indeed an update. However it's only 85.3 MB, so it's probably just bugfixes or something.
Haha there was me having a fit cause the servers were down haha, thinking I could get a look at some sweet new DLC. Welp, F to me I guess

Steam just updated the vast majority of everything, though. Most of them were 0 bytes, but a few here and there had some data to them, so I wouldn't take that as "an update". The one that was almost 2GB a couple days ago was the 1.12 update which was to fix the freezing glitches with replays / online menus, but 2GB is rather large for that, so not sure... but nothing different after the 85.3MB update, still 1.12.0 even, so nothing yet.

I've been playing MTG Arena exclusively now. Free download on PC. Runs fine on an old POS labtop. I used to play magic back in the day probably a decade ago, but now that it's digital.... No purchase of cards necessary... I'm hopelessly addicted right now..

What I realized when playing magic yesterday, is that my brain doesn't do fast twitch thinking anymore, at least not as well. I'm more of a slow, thorough thinker now. Which is why I excel at games like chess and magic but not so much Soul Calibur, at least not anymore. I just can't react/think fast like I used to. SC is on the backburner now.
