Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Wait you’ve not finished the main story yet?
i have but i made a second account on my ps4 when amy came out bc i didnt have enough CAS slots & didnt want to delete any đź’€ so I been using my second account that i havent completed all the libra of souls/soul chronicle stuff on and completely forgot about inferno

So remember when that rumor by @Vergeben about new black female, i wonder how that character would have looked, i say this now cause new Samurai Showdown character was reveal and she is in that genre (and funnily though i imagined her pretty much like this, muscular, dreadlock hairstyle, and some kind of tribal costume in some kind, wasn't sure about the weapon but i was thinking it has to be a huge/big weapon)

I'm not sure i like her name much, but love this design wow, i think she looks really cool.

Now i'm starting to think that Namco should save that idea of the character for Season Pass 2 or SC7!!!

So yeah, I am probably quitting SCVI until they revert or alter the GS changes significantly. It's a drastic move on my part since I never usually react like this but the game isn't enjoyable for me personally in its current state. Lifebars are flashing red left and right and there's this constant fear/hesitation of using GI or RE to push back offensive flurries that will otherwise kill you off fast.

And that's the thing; almost every character in SCVI can flurry attack strings in an absurdly powerful, hard to read manner if played consciously which makes these particular defense nerfs the dumbest ones I've seen.

It's a shame as I was enjoying the game up till now.

You are more than welcome to join this thread: Samurai Showdow. I will be very grateful if you participate and share news. I've never played any games of this series in particular, and I'm quite curious and excited about this one. ^^

^ I'm gonna be honest i'm not a huge fan of Samurai and when it was announce i was like "Ok looks nice" but not crazy hype about it or something, but the new footages that were showed recently made me more interested about the game as it looks pretty nice and seems to have an interesting and unique gameplay, and i like this new character she may be my favorite character in the entire game designwise, my interest goes UP during this last for this game for sure.

I can honestly understand why they gave the changes to the RE, but why to the GI and the throws?

i would however enjoy breaking away from the cliché of pretty much every black fighting game character being “tribal” as if that’s the only cultural element that’s interesting or significant that belongs to them

what about raven and master raven from tekken?

as if that’s the only cultural element that’s interesting or significant that belongs to them

Thing is though everything that's sub Saharan is tribal in relation to Euroasia in this time period because the sheer size of the Sahara desert made trade and sharing smithing skills near non existent. By the time Euroasia and Sub Sahara Africa started to make regular contact Euroasia had a 1000 year lead in craftsmanship. Not only that but Africa is enormous, even now large parts of Africa is incredibly isolated with these tribes still knocking around deep in these traditions so anything outside of this tribal culture is non existent.

Let’s not act like Soulcalibur is entrenched in a hyperrealistic, historically accurate world just to justify pigeon-holing black characters into one role. Zasalamel is literal proof that this doesnt have to occur in SC

Since Zasalamel exists pretending Soul Calibur would be pigeon holing a black character by making them tribal is bullcrap and just you looking for a reason to be pissed of and go on a social justice rampage.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a tribal culture or tribal ancestry or are you saying people with african heritage should be ashamed of their ancestors and heritage or even present day relatives who proudly maintain the tribal life style?

I mean really what if someone of African heritage wants a character that focuses more on their ancestors and represents their history?

We already have Zasalamel we don't need another.

Besides it's just a fricken skin tone. No different than hair color unless someone wants to force significance on it. Someone who's black skinned can be anything same as a anyone with white skin like I dunno... Rock?

But Rock is ok because he has white skin. How dare a person with black skin be tribal that's pigeon holing. Let's ignore that people with white skin have variety in the game from tribal to noble to ninja. If you have black skin variety isn't allowed and your heritage must be avoided for you because all your ancestors were savages and you should be ashamed.

Racism pisses me off as it's bullshit. Race doesn't exist but heritage does for those who care about it. Let's not hide heritage away and let's not pretend like people of any skin color can be or not be from a tribal heritage.

Stop looking for reasons to be offended along racial lines. It one supports racism by supporting the bullshit concept of race and two is itself racist because it artifically limits people by defining what a person of a 'specific race' can be. The very thing you're be offended about is the very thing you are doing.

The kind of clichés I’m talking about are the creation of so-called “tribal” characters who wear pelts and dreads and bone jewelry, without actually doing any research about proper tribal culture in the African continent and the fact that there were hundreds, if not thousands, of individual African tribes til the point of colonisation that all had their own rich cultures, traditions, and religions. The neglect of these different factors happens so often when fighting games add in a “tribal” character and it’s equal parts annoying, boring, and uninspired.

I literally never once said that black characters can’t be “tribal”, I’m saying I want to get rid of the lazy idea of putting black characters in a stereotypical, racist garment and faking the idea of them being tribal. Soulcalibur so far has done a somewhat good job of either A) researching cultures and adapting them through their characters to fit this fantasy world, and B) creating new ideas and mythos to innovate new characters, factions etc. So, not only can they do the first of these things to break the cliché and create a compelling, believable African character, they could also do the second and create a black character that doesnt sit in the stereotype at all.

I’m also not sjw-ing. I’m stating my opinion. There’s no need to respond to me with such aggression.

Side notes:

-there are no white ninjas in SC, to my knowledge. Taki and Natsu are Japanese lol

-Rock is one of the lamest, most uninspired characters in the series because of the fact that his concept is so loosely based on the cliché tribal image. Being born white doesn’t excuse anything lol I literally cannot stand him. He is also the reason that I am afraid of SC creating a black tribal character, since he is the epitome of pigeon-holing a “tribal” concept into a rigid, stereotypical role.
