Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Bit late to the party but...

I am CREAMING myself over these old tracks returning :) :) :)

If only there was 100% fitting place for Ephemeral Dream...
But I myself am overjoyed with the old music.

I hope at some point we get the remake tracks from Soulblade (rather than only just the originals).

They could also be a bit louder. It may be just me but I feel like there is quite a bit of volume difference when comparing SCVI tracks to the rest of pack
I haven't noticed it on every single track (I think). But there is most definitely some tracks that are quite quiet. I agree, I wonder if they'd bother to fix that?
I hope so.

With the highly-evident lack of stages and constant demand for more, I really wonder why at this point they haven't even made the CAS test fight stage available for every mode. That would probably be the literal work of seconds to accomplish and would add at least a tiny and needed fraction of variety.

But yeah, keep "working" on the pre-existing CAS assets ...

Keep in mind we’re also getting Event battle themes such as the ones in the Tower and very likely Dance of the Oracle. And we may also see Broken Destiny tracks.

I switch them a lot to give my CaS themes in mock arcade battles between them, including special versus themes. The main character has plenty with No Turning back as his regular theme, Forbidden Sanctuary against his brother/nemesis (but If There Were Any Other Way as they’re Destined Battles), and Unblessed Soul against a spoilerish relationship.

I will literally give them an extra $5 to bring back Jurakudai Villa and do it justice. But, I don't want to contribute to anti-consumer practices, so maybe I shouldn't. lol
Honestly, I don't think there is any reason to view any such forthcoming content as 'anti-consumer' in nature. No one is "owed" any particular kind of content in their game just because they think it would be necessary for the game to feel complete to their idiosyncratic perspective, even if it is something that has historically been a part of games in the series in the past--as here, with larger stage selections. Do I think the offering here in so far as stages is absolutely pitiful? Yup. Do I think its a poor development that speaks badly for the game? I'll do you one better--its maybe the single most underdeveloped aspect of this game as a fighter. Indeed, if you go back far enough in this and the other SCVI threads, you will find me complaining about it constantly. I definitely think the lack of attention in this area (not just as regards the size of the stage selection but also the quality of those present) is hurting this game immensely and making it harder to connect to as a Soulcalibur game. But do I feel we are entitled to something more? No, not really. It's not like they advertised a larger selection at any point in development, so ultimately it falls on the consumer to do the research and see what is available in the game, and decide if its worth their money. Indeed, even after the fact that's the only question one ought to be asking in assessing the purchase after the fact too: did I get my money's worth? I definitely feel I did; I've already gotten more than enough hours of entertainment value to justify the $80 I spent on the full content (or actually, in my case, enough to justify the nearly $200 I spent across versions). And that's if I stopped playing today--it doesn't even account for the years of value I'll continue to get going forward.

It doesn't magically transform this into a good Soulcalibur game: in many respects, I think SCVI is a pretty mediocre entry and poorly-consistent with the strengths of the franchise (though I feel it is still an improvement over SCV) and the poor stage selection is a part of that. But it does mean that if Namco decides to continue ongoing support to shore up areas of the game that are currently lackluster, I don't see how its reasonable to say that it's "anti-consumerist" for them to have not included that content to begin with. Every developer makes choices about where to focus their resources for a given game. It was a terrible choice, in my opinion, to give short shrift to the stages, but insofar as I've decided the game was still worth the money I paid, it's not really reasonable, in my view, to cry foul just because they didn't focus their energies exactly 100% on where I would have. I certainly feel comfortable criticizing those decisions in the abstract, as a fan of the series who feels more than a little let down by this entry, make no mistake. But by comparison, I don't think it's reasonable to complain about those same deficiencies as if I were mistreated as a consumer, simply because they didn't deliver a game in line with my priorities.

All of which is my long-winded way of saying: don't feel guilty about endorsing any DLC which improves the game from here, so long as you were happy with what you got in the initial game from a value perspective, and what they are asking for the new material represents what to you think is a reasonable price point for that content. Indeed, I think we should be supportive that companies are starting to explore models for post-launch support like this, to augment the total package available to consumers who choose to purchase it. That only becomes a problem if developers start to deliver less and less with the initial game--which yeah, is a real concern for games in the future under this model, and consumers and reviewers will need to keep the developers/publishers honest in this respect (thankfully the games industry doesn't lack for consumers willing to launch social media offensives to bellyache over all manner of issues, let alone those kinds of actual shenanigans!). But in this case, with this game, I'm happy with what I got and I'm pretty much a guarunteed buyer for any content which improves the roster, stages selection, or CaS collection. On a side note, Jurakudai Villa is near the top of my list as well for stages I really hope will make a return.

I think SC2 is even more legendary just because of History Unfolds the character select screen theme, each time i listen it to this day it's still mindblowing the level of epicness of this theme.

I wish they'd add the option change character select music... The SC2 character select was a great way to get fired up and excited. Its perfection to me personally.

I would too, especially since the stage is already in SC4 and can just be upgraded to look stunning it should be an easy job. I wish they'd approach adding back stages already. I'm getting sick of this low number of stages.

I probably would pay as well though. SCVI pretty awesome in my eyes, reason I don't want to pay though is because of them possibly locking it from ranked. I would not support the practice by the next game in general however. I'd expect Soulcalibur to be fully on track by the next game with its budget and such.
