Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I thought it was that at first but it doesn't seem to be the case.

During any of the incoming Asia league tournaments maybe?

I think maybe Hao Maru reveal will hit during Evo Japan. Means by Evo Japan season 2 would have launched already and with its first character

First DLC character maybe?

We know Haohmaru is the second DLC character, just the first revealed. They confirmed that the image shows the release order from left to right, which means the yellow one will be revealed and released first.

I'm still holding on to my prediction that S2 is:

Hwang | Haohmaru | Setsuka | Newcomer

Man these four months will feel like forever!

Yes that's why i said first character would probably already reveal (if not release) by Evo Japan. I think they may have plan to announce at the end of Asia League (Winter i think?) first character + release date of S2 and with even SC World Tour announcement, maybe.

I don't know about the planning of Asia league tho, maybe we could have an idea if we know how this is planned and the dates of the tournaments.

Then announcing Hao Maru at Evo Japan seem to be the right place, since this character was meant to appeal to Fighting games fans in general and it seems to be a right fit for it.

If Project Soul is planning to reveal anything else about Season 2 before 2020, then SEA Major 2019 seems like a good place to do so. Not only is it where the Asia League finals will take place, but it's also dated for October 12-13, which means they could show something for the (almost) 1st year anniversary of the game. Otherwise, I'm thinking we'll see something at EVO Japan.

I for one am glad Raphael's stance was changed as his current one conveys dominance though I do think his old stance should be an option to use as a second taunt.

Guests are newcomers.

I wish this was always true, but unfortunately, that's not the case. A pretty good example is SC5. It's very clear they designed the roster heavily around the time skip and story mode. There's no way they would have added characters like Alpha Patroklos, Omega Pyrrha, and Elysium if it weren't for the story mode.

Another clear example is DOA6. In an interview, the developers said that one of the primary deciding factors for making the roster was figuring out which characters fit into the story.

I think they've also considered story when deciding characters for SC6, but fortunately, I think the roster overall has turned out pretty good. I just hope the remaining fan-favourite missing characters will make it as DLC.
Games like Tekken 3, SoulCalibur V, and Street Fighter III were meant to be games that feature a new generation of fighters, meaning a roster overhaul since the intention is to reinvent the game's aesthetics and reintroduce the game as something completely new. Characters like Alpha Patroklos and Pyrrha Omega happened because of budget and deadlines with characters like Zasalamel being cut from the roster because of it. What I was trying to say is that if there is a character they want added into the game then they will come up with something to force it into the narrative.

Take for example Kazuya Mishima. His story is that he was thrown into a volcano in Tekken 2 and killed off so it makes absolutely no sense for him to ever come back into the story. Yet somehow, they force him back in to the story in Tekken 4 by saying that the G Corporation managed to somehow retrieve his body from a volcano and revive him. But hey, nobody is gonna complain about that, Kazuya is an awesome character and people are glad for him to be back. And that is what I'm trying to say about fighting games, if they want a character back then they will force them into the narrative one way or another.

I just can't see Hilde being excluded for narrative reasons especially since the narrative in SoulCalibur VI is to see the events in a different perspective (meaning something is happening in the sides while the main story is taking place). They could easily add her in and tie her story with new characters like Grøh and Azwel or show off a different event where she encounters certain characters that she didn't encounter in SoulCalibur IV. It's not as far-fetched as Kazuya's story.

Good news! I fixed Raphael!

Bonus poll, what Raphael idle do you prefer? https://www.strawpoll.me/18466392

Makes me wish that character creation has an option to choose idle stances and even animations for some moves (assuming we keep the same frame data and hitbox/hurtbox). It would help out a lot with choosing the right weapons without compromising the actual character due to an animation mismatch.

The problem with Raphael's old idle is that he basically does forward/back steps without player's input, also they are most probably just cosmetic and don't actually affect hitboxes (correct me if I'm wrong here), yet still from a practical perspective this behaviour is hightly confusing not in a good way.
Cassandra's idle is allowed, because she simply jumps up and down a little without actually walking anywhere.
I honestly thought this initially too, especially when I took a moment to think on when it happened, namely SC4.
But I really doubt this is even remotely the reason, Amy had movement too before and it was far tamer than Raphael and even Cassandra.
It just seems the trend is to strip characters of their stylish idle's.
They probably didn't even try it with Cassandra because it would be even harder to distinguish their idle since they are both females with the same weapon. Or perhaps they toned Amy down due to her wearing a more "restrictive" dress?

As for the hitbox thing, I'm not sure how literally works, I think its purely visual. But I think I'd gladly take it back misleading or not. I don't think its really a big deal and a lot of time on field is spent moving and guarding not randomly idle, so I don't think its that intrusive?

though I do think his old stance should be an option to use as a second taunt.
Honestly a CAS option for fighting styles would be fine so as to offer more variety.
You can make CAS Raphael and pick his idle and so on with others.

Hwang hyped through the ceiling thinking about it coming this early.

What are you trying to say?

I am secretly hoping Haohmaru the guest IS the one and only newcomer.

I can't speak for @AMillionHP, but in my un-edumacated mind, I think guests are newcomers in that, by their very nature, they're new to the series; it's just that they're a temporary roster member and not a long-term one.

Beyond that, Nyte is incorrect/running with a conclusion about the Kayane/Okubo interview that is in no way concrete: Okubo did not say that there was definitely a "newcomer" in the season pass; in fact, he very obviously dodges that question in a way that anyone (not looking through a confirmation bias lens) would view as a blunt refusal to comment in any way, rather than anything remotely like a confirmation.

Unlikely. In that conversation, it was narrowed down to the three excluding Haohmaru so there's really no confusing the context here.

I for one would love a new female character. We need one that will actually stick.

Also, you may say you want Aeon or Rock, but they're far from being safe DLC when selling to the general masses.

Read the interview again. The context matters, also remember that 2B was foreshadowed a year ago in a very similar context with Kayane. It's worth considering.

They ain't wasting that DLC spot on Aeon or Rock, I'm certain.

I doubt we will see a new character for this Season Pass. If the game is supported well enough for a Season 3 then I'm sure that it will be when we see a new character in place of a guest.
The reason a newcomer is widely believed is because of an interview with Kayane. When asked if all three are legacies, he said "maybe". When asked if one is new, he made a long pause and was very hesitant to answer, before telling her to wait and see. If it were all legacies, like Tekken 7 S2, they would've made it clear right away. They didn't.

All the characters unused from the SCIII era are pretty bottom-tier in popularity apart from the hinted Hwang/Setsuka, so I can see it.
