Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

But Yun-seong replacing Hwang was totally fine? And Maxi replacing Li Long?
For me I was livid by this change as my main was Li Long with Hwang my second pick. I missed out on SC1 so you can imagine it hit me hard when I discovered they were gone. At least Assassin filled that role so I was like whatever with Yun but for the longest time afterwards I despised Maxi. I've only started to warm up to him with SC6 and this is mainly due to me coming to the terms that Li Long can come back with double nunchucks and complement Maxi, much like Mina does with Kilik and Cassandra does with Sophitia. I do find it ammusing that the Calibur community at large ended up going through my SC2 moment with SC5 ten years later, but this time the backlash was too great for Project Soul to press on. I do wonder if SC5 failure is a blessing in disguise, it's legacy has lead to some intriguing world building that wouldn't have been possible without it's existence.

I'm still thinking about the SC2 "secret" art.
All the main characters in Soul Blade were being planned to be replaced and they were going to keep the SC1 generation's protagonists to anchor the roster.

A very fateful decision

Anyways:
So this Seidou Nagumo was trained by Chuui Tougou, someone who Mitsurugi encountered on the battlefield.
The Satsuma lord orders Seidou to go infiltrate/investigate the Ryukyu kingdom.

My original guess was this guy was the Mitsurugi's secret brother (something I read about back when they were trying to make up a reason for SC5 Mitsurugi to show up).

Yeah, I thought the same about Mitsu's rival "claiming to be his long-lost brother" who was subsequently scrapped even from the SCV HP's bio.

SCII remains the only iteration we never saw as much early concept art from, just mainly 1P/2P/3P designs, so maybe that's why. I wonder what other secrets lurk in the shadows and what might be revealed some day, just like potential Mitsubro.

New Legends of Project Soul lists Seidou and Mitsurugi's "brother" as two separate entities, so I doubt that they were meant to be the same character. Unless the latter is actually Seidou disguising himself during his infiltration of the Ryukyu kingdom or something, but still, I'm doubtful.

And since this SC2 art is going to be the only thing I think about for the next week, here's some other bits of info relating to it:
  • The very first trailer for SC2 (titled "The Next Chapter Of SoulCalibur") shows renders of Seidou, the unknown ninja, and Nightmare. Unfortunately, the only existing screenshots of this trailer are very small and the characters are mostly silhouettes. These are the best images I could find. EDIT: I found larger images. They're still not great, but they're better. See below.
  • The unknown ninja's name is currently unknown, but apparently it had something to do with "snow". setsuka confirmed
  • That Astaroth design almost made it into the game. You can see art and in-game screenshots of it in early articles.
  • Talim's weapons were supposed to be much larger but were later reduced in size, possibly due to motion restrictions. Talim was also supposed to have a "selfish personality". (I bet subsets of the fanbase would hate Talim even more if they went through with that.)
  • The story was going to be very different, with Raphael summoning "the Demon King" at the end. This obviously was scrapped. Thank goodness because that sounds stupid.

I got one of those SC6 decks on eBay for like 30 bucks, most of which was the shipping from Australia. They were given out to journalists at an event there back in September 2018, the one where Raph and Cervy were infamously leaked. It's kind of amusing to me that those two characters were not meant to be shown yet, considering both of them are in the cards.

The cards themselves are really pretty, but sadly they're made of regular cardstock and not of the nicer plastic-coated one. I don't really feel comfortable playing around with them, it feels like I'm gonna bend them pretty bad. I think I want to frame them at some point,or find out some other way to display them.

Not necessarily to trample any fun, but we know about these cards already. Only jacks or better have characters on them, so there’s only eighteen. Unless they remade the deck, it’s very doubtful it’s anything else. And let’s be real, they didn’t remake the deck.

Jacks: Talim, Raphael, Maxi, Astaroth
Queens: Taki, Ivy, Seong Mi-na, Sophitia
Kings: Nightmare, Azwel, Siegfried, Cervantes
Aces: Mitsurugi, Xianghua, Kilik, Grøh
Jokers: Tira, Voldo

Damn it, ninja’d by @Norik. :talimcry:

[Just to provoke a flame war] Oh look, their card ranks are matched to their tiers!
