Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

As happy as I am to see my boy return after 15 fuckin' years, I really don't like his new gimmicks.
I understand that he needs a huge upgrade so he can be on par with all the other characters and the shiny anime fantasy magic bullshit the series has been careening toward since SC4, but I really just wanted Kicks & Splits Man.

If this is what it takes to get both Hwang and Yun-Seong in, then I say so be it.

Besides, its possible they can adjust the gimmicks in future titles. This is the only the new beginning for SC, who knows what the future may hold!

Here are some photos I found on Twitter.

Rewatching the trailer, I think Hwang looks promisingly interesting gameplay-wise. Hopefully the bubbles won't be an integral part of it all and won't reach an Algol-level of annoyingness.

And I guess his new magic Chain Dao is the closest we'll get to a kusarigama.

I also noticed that unlike the other characters, they didn't show his SC animation nor his SA, if i'm not mistaken. Just one SC move in the trailer.

Design-wise, I really think they could have gone without the hat and its giant feather hair attachment. He really looks straight outta Bloodborne. Everybody has been recreating that triangle hat in CAS since launch. Also, what is it with "Feathers stuffed into boots and gloves" in SCVI? So common now.

Sharing some other insomniac thoughts:

1. Hwang vs Groh (Flavor wise)
Hwang's presentation as a "secret agent" is >>> groh's presentation as a "secret agent". Project Soul really knocked it out of the park (in the trailer so far). They both seem like shadowy agents that hunt down malevolent evil monsters that ordinary humans would stand not chance against.

Hwang still comes off as a accomplished martial artist, but wielding some magic talismanic powers. Groh almost seems like an anime guest character. Some of this must be intentional, since Groh wields a fictional dual blade weapon and Hwang at least is more grounded with that Korean Do sword. Both of them have very intentionally muted and drab outfits,

2. Hwang vs Potential Yun Seong:
Traditionally, Hwang was the vanilla Dao and Yun Seong was the flashy Dao character. This trailer has definitely bucked that trend, and Hwang seems like a Dao / Ninja hybrid. Its clear that his character unique mechanics are his Six Heavenly Arts.

The question is, how can Yun Seong maintain his status as the flashier of the pair ? Perhaps its time to abandon this thought?? DLC characters are going to be more over-the-top compared to the starting lineup and I expect Yun Seong to continue this trend (along with any potential S3 characters)

Hwang's heavenly arts almost function as a secondary weapon (chained sword for more reach / throwable projectile / jump pad for spacing shenanigans), and we'll have to see how often he can use it.

If Yun Seong is to return in SC6 as a S3 character, the smart guess is to think he'll be the Do user + tons of kick strings. However, the Hwang trailer already featured some pretty sick looking kicks so i'll going to see how Project Soul will try to top that. Project Soul might end up bringing in secondary complimentary weapons, and Yun Seong's footwear might be bladed ? This would actually make customization worse off since it sort of locks a weapon to his lower body slot. Personally I'm cool with just a Do for Yun Seong, but Project Soul seems to make a habit of surpassing my expectations.

I like both Grøh and Hwang and their aesthetic, while similar, can be interpreted in different ways. Grøh is depicted as a cold and pragmatic warrior with a bit of a dorky and lenient side to him. Hwang is shown to be a dark avenger with a sense of reasonable justice.

I'm guessing that the forthcoming Hwang announcement caused you to evolve from Dissidia to RyujiSakamoto. XD

Also nice to see some new and familiar names coming back here after the Hwang announcements.

My first username here was TekkenLover (a name I made when I was a child, I know it’s dumb)

Then dissidia (I loved dissidia from 2009 to 2011)

But some people were associating me with the new game Dissidia NT (which I hate and refuse to play) so I felt like changing my name to honor Best Bro Ryuji.

I am looking forward to seeing the creation parts that comes with Hwangs outfit!

TekkenLover isn't a bad name though. Although I prefer SoulCalibur over Tekken, Tekken is a very close second favorite fighting game of mine. Honestly, I even prefer some Tekken games over its contemporary SoulCalibur counterpart.

Dissidia NT, though I never played it, I heard was complete trash. But I actually thought you named yourself after the original PSP game since no sane person would want to name themselves after the complete mess that is NT.

But honestly can't be as bad as my name which was based on a South Park episode about World of Warcraft lol. Today I learned I can change my name in this forum but I'll stick with this for a while to avoid confusion lol.

Having grown up with SoulCalibur II, my preference would be an Assassin outfit for Hwang. :sc2ass2:
I never really cared about Hwang as a character before but Assassin's moveset was bomb and I had a blast playing him in SC2. Hopefully the DLC comes with both an Assassin costume and a classic costume.
