Break mechanics, how do they work?

You're thinking of weapon clashes, where two attacks impact each other on the same frame and bounce off each other. This has been in all the soul games, and is different than the "break" system that only existed in 2. I believe SC1 also had a feature where if your opponent was in a neutral...

Break mechanics, how do they work?

I believe you're talking about SC2's "break" system, wherein slightly slower moves would sometimes beat faster moves if they had a higher "weight" property. Generally verticals had higher weight than horizontals, so you would occasionally see verticals interrupting horizontals even when the...

    In-game definition of "Clean Hit"

Nope. Jesster = just Jesster (or sometimes The Jesster). The same Jesster that's been lurking around here, caliburforums.com, guardimpact.com, and soulcalibur.com on and off since the days of Arcade SC 1

    [Wisconsin] Wisconsin still exists? WTF?

What Milwaukee really needs is someone to step up and organize something. I think the success of the Madison community can largely be attributed to Jimmy, and all the work he does planning weekly tournaments, and encouraging new players. Milwaukee's got a handful of willing players, but I...

    In-game definition of "Clean Hit"

Yeah, while I find the idea of a completely random damage boost rather lame, at least it seems miniscule enough not to have much of an impact on gameplay. On the other hand, I think I'm more annoyed by their commandeering an existing, well-established term and changing its meaning completely...

    In-game definition of "Clean Hit"

My understanding of the term "clean hit" in this and previous soul games has always been the following: A successful (unblocked) attack is considered a "clean hit" when it hits deep on a standing or crouching opponent directly facing the attacker. Most moves don't have any special effect on...

Anyone know the frame data on MCHT K?

    GB moves giving unblockable setups?

Yoshi gets a free 6K off of an A+B GB.

noodalls investigates JG (and some GI)

Let me see if I can settle this Safe-JG issue once and for all. Say we have 3 players: Player A always attempts JG with a single tap of G lasting two frames. Player B has perfected the rhythm of the "Safe-JG" double tap. Every time he attempts a JG, he presses G for two frames, releases for...

    Yoshimitsu and A+K

I've had A+K cause a weapon clash with vertical attacks, rather than an actual GI. Perhaps you're mistaking these weapon clashes for GI's that don't charge IFP.

    Yoshimitsu JF General

Yes it is. And its an opinion some of us share with some fairly prominent members of the fighting game community (http://shoryuken.com/2012/02/03/shadowloo-interviews-seth-killian-at-capcom-super-ultimate-showcase-hard-to-execute-moves-are-the-stupid-parts-of-fighting-games/) That's all fine...

    Voldo Combo Discussion

Yeah, I feel dumb for not realizing that sooner. I forgot that MCHT 66 technically knocks them off their feet so the first B+K counts as an air hit and enables air control. Pretty sure nothing is guaranteed after that.

    Voldo Combo Discussion

I was playing around in practice mode last night trying to figure out what options Voldo has to combo into his full CE (not just the 30 damage MCHT transition version that you get on a grounded opponent). From what I've found, the only options are: CH BS 4B CE - 125 damage CH BS WS A CE - 109...

    [Wisconsin] Wisconsin still exists? WTF?

Hey all, Yes, I still exist. Will be picking up SCV after work today. I probably won't have the time to go to as many tourneys as I have for past games, but I'm definitely up for the occasional meet-up. I could even host occasionally if people are interested in playing on my 120" wall (video...

Any Board Gamers/Pen and Paper RPGers?

I like games. I play a lot of board games. Settler's of Catan, Puerto Rico, Carcassone, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Talisman, etc. My latest obsession in this category is Agricola. As for PnP RPG's, I used to play a lot of 3.5 Edition DnD and lead a playtest group for 4E before it was...

Sanwa 4-way gate vs. 8-way gate

You're assuming the throw to the diagonals remains the same, which is not the case with the LS-56 octo-gate. Rather than pushing the cardinal directions out and making them "concave" as you say, they pull the diagonal points in a bit to get the same result. Thus, less throw overall...

    Madison SC4 Tourney Results #17 01/24/09

Yeah, I'm aware of all that. The one that really surprised me was 2A+B. I've never managed to duck high moves with this move, and I didn't think it had any crouch frames before impact, but you managed to crouch throw me out of it. I'm guessing there's a very very small window (2-3 frames or...

Sanwa 4-way gate vs. 8-way gate

That's true of the Sanwa JLF octo gates (or so I've heard). However that's not the case for all japanese sticks. I, too, prefer octagonal gates, so when I built my custom I used a Seimitsu LS-56. The optional octagonal gate for this stick actually has LESS throw than the stock square gate...

    Madison SC4 Tourney Results #17 01/24/09

That was me. Don't sweat it. I've had several tournament matches where I've been disappointed in my own performance as well, so I can understand your frustration. I didn't take it personally. Nice Astaroth, by the way. I never realized before how vulnerable Voldo was to crouch throws...

    the problem with sc...

Too many safe moves??? SC4 has too many UNSAFE moves. Unsafe moves reward boring, turtley block and punnish tactics. Safety rewards aggressive play, which is far more entertaining. And SC has always had plenty of tools to defeat "spam". -=The Jesster: Gatchaba Goose=-
