Alexandra's SCVI CaS Showcase

Your works remind me of @Fatal_Exodus's and @SpellcraftQuill's ones. I admire that all three of you use the creator to bring life to your OCs in a way that surpasses me. I was just reading your the backstories and, the way how you present them made me imagine the events happening in front of my eyes, they send shivers down my spine just by thinking about them! I also love how, instead of just slapping countries and cultural references like that, you structured them to have an important purpose in telling the stories of your characters, not many out there who take that extra step in developing said characters. Regarding originals, you three are my favorite CAS artists so, keep providing us with all these amazing OCs and their tales! :D
Thank you so much! Fatal and Spellcraft's work often gives me inspiration when I'm in a creative rut.

Awwwwww thank you both @Ardent and @Alexandra. That means a lot. Probably one of the nicest things I’ve read on a gaming board...

After a long hiatus, I'm back! In my time away from my thread I've put together secondary costumes for the entire cast minus Azwel, as well as a few bonus recreations. Sadly, the above project I was teasing ended up falling apart due to a lack of inspiration/available parts for the ideas I had. Maybe I'll post some of the creations I completed for it but for now let's focus on these 2Ps!

Nightmare: the costume is meant to evoke his SCII 2P while also channelling a dark messiah/corrupted savior vibe through imagery like the crown of thorns and rusted platemail. Rather than going for a simple Nightmare red or Siegfried blonde, I opted for a more dishwater strawberry shade of blonde to imitate unkempt, disheveled hair.

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412150553.jpg

Cervantes: heavy references to SCIII-SCV 2P costumes of his. Again used the marble pattern to create the illusion of rust from saltwater.

Kilik: throwback to a majority of his costumes, actually. Blue and yellow look great on him and I think this relatively simplistic design is one of my stronger works in this batch.

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412151153.jpg

Amy: since she was introduced in SCIII, I looked to her Arcade Edition alternate costumes and wanted to really emphasize her role as a newfound noble. The white and periwinkle symbolize innocence, purity and calmness.

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412151515.jpg

Seong Mi-na: this seems to be a pretty standard Mi-na at this point, at least on these forums. I wanted to use that Great Wave sticker on something so badly and thought it worked well for this design, despite it being a Japanese artwork.

Ivy: there's something about Ivy in blue. It just works for her. It's probably the lavender hair. Anyway, this is an updated version of my 2P from October, with an altered color scheme and some terribly necessary gear swaps. Still wanted that Mediterranean/Spanish/nautical vibe in the outfit but I also wanted to keep her as sexy as she always is.

Xianghua: another SCII redux. Red and turquoise always look garish to me, but I think this color scheme works for her perfectly.

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412151946.jpg
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412152032.jpg

Taki: yet another SCII inspired design, this time around I decided to revamp her priestess look I did in October and turn her into an all out goddess. Taki usually ends up with simple black/white secondary costumes so it felt right to give her a more colorful alternate.

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412152129.jpg
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412152138.jpg

Talim: after trying about six different looks, I settled on this more beachy palette for Talim. She almost always has on blue or green so I wanted to marry that idea with some of the colors of that god awful kitty look she had in SCIV.

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412152238.jpg
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412152330.jpg

Groh: I'm gonna be completely honest...Groh is kind of hot to me so I wanted to give him something kind of slutty. Also, considering he's probably Scandinavian, I wanted to give him reddish hair.

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412152415.jpg
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412152503.jpg

Siegfried: something about Sieg has always reminded me of ASOIAF/GoT, and I decided to give him like a cheesy 90s fantasy doublet and scale mail suit.

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412152540.jpg
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190412152606.jpg

Voldo: his SCV 2P was calling out to me desperately after I spent probably 4 hours trying to adapt his SCII 2P. So many of the women's clothing options can and should be available for men too, all I needed to finish Voldo's red look was the navy blue puffy sleeved blouse! Instead I decided to make him like a weird sun gimp? I used gradients all over the armor to make the illusion of the rays of light we see when we look at a light source. The gradient is a little washed out/degraded from the photo quality but in-game it's beautiful to look at.

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001401.jpg
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001424.jpg

Zasalamel: for some reason the print on his pants reminds me of Mesopotamia, namely cuneiform. Zas' outfits usually have little to no color besides golds and browns, so I wanted to give him so muted but obvious pops of color.
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001448.jpg
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001508.jpg
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001517.jpg

Sophitia: this outfit started as an adaptation of some of her and Cassandra's unused concept arts, but ended up being much closer to Sophitia's SCIV 2P. This is one of my favorites of the bunch, as I feel it has a very ancient vibe with a modern silhouette and mixed color scheme of jewel tones and vibrant cool tones. For me, each piece was referential to a different Greek myth. The skirt was Leda and the swan, the helm was the Sirens of the Odyssey, the boots and body armor Amazonian and the custom necklace reminded me of the architecture in ancient Athens.

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001606.jpg
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001616.jpg

Tira: I've always loved Tira's jester alternates, so I wanted to play up her SCIII 2P's chartreuse color palette with a sexy fool look. I know, the color scheme is VERY Ronald McDonald, but I wanted her outfit to be a bit unsettling.
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001654.jpg

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001716.jpg

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001729.jpg

Raphael: since it's implied Raph will be a vampire again in this new timeline, I figured he needed a fitting vampire lord outfit. Slightly updated since I first posted this outfit with new hair and the opera mask added.

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001835.jpg

Maxi: this is admittedly one of my weaker ones. I struggled to make a convincing alternate costume for Maxi that wasn't supremely out of character or redundant.
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001926.jpg

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608001947.jpg

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608002001.jpg

Astaroth: another weak one, I struggled to make something really different from his main costume. I'll probably go in again soon and fix the colors to be more contrasted.

SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608002044.jpg
SOULCALIBUR™Ⅵ_20190608002057.jpg

Mitsurugi: a simple, less armored alternate based on his SCV 1P. I wanted to use more blue with him than he has been known to wear and I ended up mixing blacks and navy blues to some success.

Yoshimitsu: I have to say, customizing men is MUCH harder for me than women. Yoshi proved to be the biggest challenge for me overall, but I'm really happy with the final product.

I really like the thought that goes into your creations. I also like the backstories for your OC and how you integrate them into the SoulCalibur universe. As for your current creations I like Cervantes, Amy, Seong Mi-na, Ivy, Taki, Voldo, and Sophitia. Their designs come together really nicely to me. I also like how you created the rust for Cervantes which is something I have struggled with in the past, so thank you for showing me a new CAS technique. Your GoT characters are also really good, you did a good job with what was available and really nailed down the look and feel of the characters.

Strong batch, very fashionable girls, sexy guys, scary ones, the girl's touch perfected
My specialty in CaS, as @SpellcraftQuill once put it, is making beautiful women so of course taking on the brutes and warriors was difficult for me. It helps that some of them have some feminine quirks (see: Groh, Raphael, Kilik) in their manner, facial/physical features or in their fighting style. Thank you so much!

I find the best CaS have a story, regardless of them being an OC or a custom design of a main character. It helps me come up with a more fully realized look than I normally would just tacking parts on a character until I'm satisfied. Also, I'm happy to help! If you ever want to make something happen but aren't sure this board is a great place to ask questions or seek advice.

And thank you! I spent a lot of time on the men to try and do them justice. I realize now there's a LOT of muted red tones in these characters so I will probably start making minor edits to all of them and update a few weeks or months from now.

Groh does look amazing as a ginger. I kind of wish I was even if I have a few red hairs in my beard. The bare leg showing is a peculiar choice... But he should have been a ginger to begin with.

Mi-Na’s is simple, but suits her perfectly. Probably would use the training belt instead.

Your Nightmare is a favorite, but maybe make the shadow on the face lighter. It’s a great decision nonetheless. Bonus points for the reddish hair.

Really like the mismatched Pirate boots for Tira.

My one concern with Amy is that she looks more like a younger Hilde with the Elegant Bob.

Good choices for Xianghua. Probably would do the ponytail or grand dame since the custom hairs generally look too plastic.

Voldo and Ivy seem like good ideas, but feel plain in comparison. The former could even wear a Sanctified Leotard with the right color. Or just make it sheer or have some design that’s mostly close to a skintone. He’s fun to come up with costumes for in my opinion.

That Daenerys doesn’t really need the leather wrap in my opinion. Curious how you made her side braids (horns most likely.)

Consider me impressed!

@SpellcraftQuill Thank you so much! I had a lot of trouble with Voldo and some of the other men just because I wasn't used to making designs with the male character equipment. Also, now that you mention that about Amy, she does look quite a bit like Hilde to me. I'll have to pick out a new style for her when I start revising these.
And for the Dany hair, I did just use the standard horns with basic pattern 2. I usually am not a fan of custom hair but these are simple and convincing enough that I've started using them on regular designs. It's amazing what simple braid illusions do to the helmets of hair we're given!

Lastly, I'm happy to say powering through these 2Ps has lit a fire under my ass! I recently replayed Chronicles of the Sword from SCIII and the rather abrupt, open-ended epilogue left me wondering WHAT exactly happened to the governmental structures of Grandall after your character kills Strife. This line of thinking led me to start a new series of customs to go along with my COTS party I posted back in October. Hopefully I'll have them finished soon!

Another pretty hefty update, which I'll separate by heading:

Chronicles of the Sword cast designs:
As I said above, I've been working on a set of characters from an idea for a what-if sequel to COTS I had recently. Below are new costumes for my party leader, her love interest, a new villainess and a recreation/redesign of Abelia!

Helena, savior of Grandall. Despite rebelling against the country and later being immortalized in statue form, Helena survived the events of COTS and fled the empire after the war. However, the rise of a new pair of tyrants draws her back into war one last time after years of seclusion. She's dyed her hair and donned the traditional colors of Grandall, aging a few years between the end of SCIII and the hypothetical sequel.

Sola, first a redesign then her secondary costume. After the war, Sola became the head of the royal guard and an advisor to the new king and queen, who were elected by a council of diplomats. Her service to the king and queen has created a rift between her and Helena.

Renata, the new queen of Grandall. A master schemer and a dangerously quick fencer, Renata inherited the mess Strife and Helena created. She is a master manipulator and will do anything to hold power, including put her own children and husband in danger for the sake of her own ambition.

Hey Alex, i have made a twitter account only to participate in that contest, are we sure we can do multiple entries in all fairness ? I would like to use that possibility to display a variety of OCs :)

I'm not sure. I mostly did mine with the intention of expressing my frustration over the lack of transparency/communication in recent months from PS. I believe we can do multiple but you may need to look into the fine print of their announcement.

I love your new creations @Alexandra!
Thank you Kostas! It means a lot coming from someone so prolific and so talented.

Helena’s combination of the pirate gear with that armor looks spectacular. Maybe because I have an eyepatch fetish I’m drawn to her. Her design vaguely reminds me of Rose from Legend of Dragoon.

Sola looks badass. I prefer the short haired look because of how well you made the Geometric Short hair work on her. It’s a bit harder to get an attractive design with that hairstyle for some reason.

Nice choice of a ladylike and battle-ready Abelia. I find it interesting when a knightly lady uses the Chinese dress as a tabard even though armor becomes a bit more complicated. The sticker as armor to me looks a bit too leathery which contrasts with the rest of her iron armor. Also seems like a shame that the Benevolence Boots will ruin or remove tights unless you use the right stickers.

Renata feels a bit plain but I appreciate the use of the purple accent on the skirt. Good attempt at cleavage, but it ends up looking like a late PS1 era texture. Great effort though.
