Four New Characters Revealed!

Last night, Namco had a press event in San Francisco. At this event, they revealed four upcoming characters for SOULCALIBUR VI. In addition to the expected staples of Nightmare, Xianghua and Kilik... we also got our first look at a brand new character: Grøh.

SOULCALIBUR VI - PS4/XB1/PC - The Agent in Black (Character announcement trailer)

Since SOULCALIBUR VI takes place before other titles in the series, there remains some questions about a few of the characters in this trailer. Obviously with Nightmare and Kilik. Are Siegfried and Nightmare still one person? Is Kilik currently being possessed by the Kali-Yuga; though he appears to be wearing the Dvapara-Yuga. Screenshots to follow.

I'm a bit pissy about how long the animations take for things like GI, CE, Reversal Edge, and Soulcharge, but otherwise this game looks fluid as hell, and judging by the moves I'm seeing, everyone is closer to their SCII movesets. Seeing some new mix-up options: Kilik's aB,B seems to incorporate an A follow-up now instead.
The new moves and character costumes are all fantastic and I cannot wait for this game (though I hope they don't rush it out like V... they NEED to take their time).

So excited to see Mitsurugi get some new moves and have Relic back. Man did I miss Relic in V.

Groh leaves a lot to be desired. His moves remind me of those Mii fighters in Smash Bros. Worried about him, and his CE is just a stupid mash of slashy attacks leading up to an obnoxiously big ball of special effects. SC never was a flashy game and I liked it that way. He seems basic and doesn't seem to have any flow to him, maybe its just because no one knows how to play as him yet. His look is too anime mcgoo/edgelord. He does not look like he fits in; ZWEI barely did, but he just ended up working out.

I don't need the visuals to make me feel the intensity on GI's, they are intense on their own--no need for SCIV style camera angle changes on a simple GI.

I hope to high heaven that they bring back Yun Seung, Rock, Zasalamel, and ZWEI. I could honestly do without Talim, Voldo, Ivy, Taki, and Siegfreide--seems he's half & half with Nightmare now, so it'd be silly separating them.

I feel you on this one (especially RE). I hope i can try this game out myself soon but till then i'm gonna be honest that these things worry me about how they might affect the speed of gameplay. I hear different opinions. Some people think the fights flow good even with these mechanics and others think they just slow everything down.

 

All these character designs are solid af.
I'm absolutely loving Hua's new outfit.
