Ivy Free Punishment Thread

I noticed that there is no thread for one of the more important aspects of Ivy.
hmmm...personally, I wouldn't say that Ivy's punishing game is one of her more important gameplay aspects.
On the contrary, I'd say that it's "sort of" the only gameplay aspect that Ivy is a bit...weak.

As other members have mentioned in another thread, a move can be called punisher, If it is "fast" (usually up to i15) and If it does decent damage. Also, other factors that affect punishing moves are: where this certain move hits (h,m,l) and how much range it has. Ivy has some options to punish in SW state, but most of them should be noted that hit high or have crapy range. Also most of Ivy's interruption tools, are also in SW.

It should be noted that Ivy also has some options from her a-GI moves, but these are situational and cannot be called punishing (more correct interrupting). Ring has provided nice info at the Ivy a-GI thread.

I don't know man, perhaps I could be wrong but I think Ivy has great damage potential, deadly mix-ups, very good throw game/CF game/RO game, great range, oki, pressure, UBs. But when it comes to punishment/interruption, I think it's where she suffers the most...

If you want my advice, just find which moves can be punished by SW 6B8K (high-low, i13 for 35 damage), and find the best possible ways to interrupt while in SW/CL/WP.

i totally agree that she lacks in that area just through my month or so playing her. I noticed her mixup, spacing game was pretty deadly. not to forget about her RO game although i havent completely worked that into my game yet.

but even then i still feel that she can be broken down into specific moves that can punish. i know all to well that it is pretty situational as to what may be guaranteed or not but in a basic situation it is still good to know what you get.

but if this in no way seems beneficial to ivy players then feel free to close this thread. i was just trying to help.

There's no need to close this thread. I think we are gonna need it. I'll start with Amy, because I hate her x) Thatman_Blaze, I'll edit your first post later with some anti-Amy info.

I agree with dittO that Ivy's punishing game is weak. However, things are different when we talk about Sword State alone. In SW, Ivy becomes totally different character when it comes to punishment.

Some info about punishing tools in SW, CL and WP.

Sword State (SW)

SW 6 (i14) is her fastest mid accesable from FC. It's only one frame faster than WS K, but it makes a huge difference.
SW 6B9K (i13) is her best punishing tool. 35dmg and advantage on hit, nice range. It's also accessable from FC, but since it's high, it won't work against some moves.
SW 1K (i13) is her fastest mid from neutral stance.
SW 4B (i12?) - im not sure about this one. Sometimes it doesnt punish i12 moves where SW 1A works. Still, one of the best punishers.
SW 1A (i12) - it has small range so use it for interrupting mostly. On CH you get 60~80dmg combo off i12 move! Clrealy one of he best pokes in the game.

My advice is to focus on SW 6 and SW 6B9K only. I use SW 1K for interrupting mostly, but it also comes in handy when opponent is too far for SW 6 to reach. Never use K in SW for punishing, because it's negative on hit.

Coiled State (CL)

Things are much worse here... Your fastest move is K, which is negative on hit, high, and you can't use it from FC.

CL A,A (i14) does only 20dmg and it's 0 on hit. Has nice range though
CL 2A (i15?) sucky damage, frame advantage

Whip State (WP)

Absolutely horrible for punishing.

WP 3A (i16) has a good range, but leaves you at massive disadv and does small damage. 6K is a better choice.

All stances:

K (i13) - fastest move in CL and WP, negative on hit,
2K (i15) I use it in a desperation :) disadvantage on hit
WS K (i15) really good, nice ranged mid with big advantage on hit
6K (i16) this one is also good. Nice range, nice damage, TCs and its accessable from FC.
4K (i??) not sure how fast this kick is, but it does decent damage and it's +3 on hit

You mean CL 214 on block right?

SW 7_8_9B and CL_WP 7_8_9gB is pretty fast, but don't use it as a punisher, because it only useful when it hits on CH. On normal hit, it leaves you at -3 and on block it's -17 IIRC

There's nothing guaranteed after SW 1A on normal hit. On CH you have CH SW 1A, CL 1B,B+K, SW 214K combo.

It's ok dude. I never said that this thread should be closed (nor it's my decision to close ANY thread). I just commented on a certain phrase you mentioned. And since this is NOT just a normal punish-on-block-thread (but more correctly punishing through blocking/ducking/evading/interrupting/aGI-ing etc thread), it IS a must have ;)

Lately I've been enjoying (ok...mostly for fun), using WP 3B+K, PB Cannon Version (PushBack Cannon, not RO Cannon) to push them faaaaaaaaaaaaaar away. I've always enjoyed that effect ;p
So I was wondering, If it was possible for us to use it in any guarranteed situations. I don't fully know the exact properties of this move yet...I mean is it indeed i18(?), TCs(?)...And the worst is I always forget to check it on practice...argghhh

i don't think its that much slower up close. i don't think it can be blocked post 6G.

just tested

SW 4A (-4) is blocked. WP 3B+K double hits with SW 3K (i15) which means WP 3B+K is i19.
