[08] Mercenary
I know what some people may be thinking. "Oh another guy coming from 2D fighters. This won't last very long." I beg to differ! One of my first fighting games was Soul Calibur, back when I first bought my Dreamcast. Young and naive, I mashed my way through the game, had a great time.
Unfortunately I skipped SCII because my parents couldn't afford another console for me at the time it came out and I only played SCIII at a friend's house. SCIV came out and I decided to buy it. However, to put it bluntly, I was still a total moron at the time I was playing SCIV and I was crushed enough times by randoms online that I eventually decided to give up on the game altogether.
Back then, I had no idea that I would eventually become a competitive fighting gamer. Well...here I am now, playing at high level in King of Fighters and Melty Blood. I'll play pretty much any fighting game now because I have the fundamentals to make learning them easier. I saw that SCV was coming out and thought to myself "Well, since I play pretty much anything these days, why not give it another shot?" I knew that the transition from 2D to 3D fighters would be a serious pain in the butt, but I didn't have a grasp of just how difficult it really is.
Yesterday, bought SCV, I mashed a little for the nostalgia and then decided to focus. After I decided on my main, I practiced some offensive stuff, a few combos, etc. I go into a match and suddenly everything feels extremely foreign. I got steamrolled and went to bed really salty. The next morning, I get up and practice moving around since it's completely different from what I'm used to. I realized "Pretty much the only fighting game fundamentals that I can carry over to 3D are spacing and hit-confirming. I'll have to learn everything else all over again."
So with that, here I am. I made an account on this site and I'm ready to take everything from step one again. I'll accept matches, no matter the skill level. If I get my ass beat, that just makes me think harder and practice dealing with the situations that got me killed. I always give and ask for advice too (although for this game, I'm in no place to give advice YET) because I like improving and helping other players improve.
I really think I made this introduction thing go on a little too long... Anyways, nice to meet everybody and I can't wait to become a force to be reckoned with in SCV.
