Horror Movies

I like suspense movies, things like the Japanese version of the Ring. I'm not a fan of horror movies, things like the American version of the Ring. To me, the best suspense movies are about atmosphere, and making you scared, without actually doing anything scary. Horror movies these days are too often about Gore Porn and Monster Closets; and I don't like that.

Quoted for truth. Jaxel's thoguhts on this mirror my own. Not only that but so much american horror is so stupid and without any psychological component.

See I searched the forums and didn't see this one so was curious to see what others liked. Mine are Audition, Suicide Club, In the Mouth of Madness, The Shining and People Under the Stairs. I have had so many people ask what is a good horror movie to see and I always tell them to watch In the Mouth of Madness and everyone that watches it, likes it. So do you read Sutter Cane...lol

Alien, Exorcist, Audition, shutter (thai), Rec are 5 which come to my mind at this moment. Not necessarily my top 5 however.

Seen all of them good movies, since you have see audition did you see suicide club?

Not really a horror movie in my mind. Closer to a psychological thriller/suspense than a pure horror film if you could call it that. I was more creeped out than scared by the events of the film. I think Battle Royale was better in the same vein.

Audition was body horror at its finest. I think only the invasion of the body snatchers comes close to that level of body horror for me.

I don't know mass suicides seems like horror to me. Even the begining with the 50 people jumping in front of the train. Battle Royale was good too but I liked suicide club more.

It was not really scary though. It was messed up but it wasn't scary. Hard to classify that one. Like the japanese Ju-on was scary as heck. The American Ring however was better than the japanese one.

The japanese Ring had better atmosphere than the remake, it was more creppy. Both were great, though. I own every movie and tv specials of Ring series, but I have to say only a few of them are worth watching. I was never a fan of Ju On.

One of my all time favorites is definitely the original A Nightmare on Elm Street. I don't like slasher movies in general, but this one if my childhood trauma. Also, I think it had great story and was just much better than movies like Friday the 13th or Halloween.

See I'm a huge fan of audition that movie is where so many got movies got their inspiration from. The scene where the bag moves when the phone rings and the scene where he drinks puke out of the doggy bowl missing fingers. Yeah I remember watching the original Friday the 13th, Halloween and a Nightmare on Elmstreet when I was like 7 years old so yeah I had so many nightmares lol. So have yáll seen In the Mouth of Madness?

Audition, as in the long Japenese audition?

Yes Dani the Japanese horror movie audition where the the guy holds a fake audition to find a girlfriend but the girl is psycho or is she? lol

We cannot forget Jaws too. That movie was iconic, it made people afraid to go to the beach for decades after.

I remember watching Audition and I thought it was good, but nothing ground breaking. But maybe I'm just biased, I lost most of my love for asian horror movies after like 80% of them were just based on Ring, a story of a long haired girl in white dress who somehow died many years ago and now she seeks vengeance. How original, lol. I know this is related to japanese culture, but it started after Hideo Nakata made Ring, and it's been going for more than 10 years now.

1. Exorcist, we all know bout that one. still scares me till this day.
2. The Entity (based on true story) bout a ghost raping a middle aged woman the effects make it seem so real.
3. Halloween Part 1 Mike Myers classic.
4. The Ring Part 1 & 2 were really good.
5. Damien the (omen series) devil child with 3 666 very good movie.

having grown up about 2 hours away in the same mountains as it took place, and being raised on stories of lights in the mountains and even over phoenix, Fire in the Sky is EASILY the single movie that scared the holy shit out of me for most of my life. to this day i still won't go out there alone.
