So yeah, this time round Nightmare seems like he is at his best. But is he now too good?

I'd say a little too strong, I find he breaks opponents guards and builds meter too fast as well as doing too much damage with a few moves, most notably his Auto GI bubble thingy.

Its not by a lot however, I can manage him but it takes more effort now than against anyone else.

Thoughts?

I don't think so at least. He's negative frames constantly, builds meter in a really ridiculously unsafe way, and can be punished for most moves he throws out that aren't straight up pokes. As long as you turtle him correctly and have a life lead there isn't much to be afraid of. He does have immense damage output though which keeps him from being a low tier character, but when you see that somebody like aPat puts out just as much damage it puts it into perspective. One thing he does well that he doesn't get any credit for is he step kills like a fuckin' monster.

I suppose it is subjective.

From my perspective I find him too strong, though I play as Sieg, Tira and Aeon.

Tira and Aeon are clearly too weak especially against longer reached opponents and Sieg seems far less effective this time.

However if I was using Mitsu or the like I imagine I would have much better results. I just don't get why all characters can't be effective.

Aeon is probably the worst in the game. Tira is incredibly difficult and confusing to use effectively, but she is very good in the right hands. Sieg has huge problems with moves tracking or just straight going through people.

And they all can be effective in the right hands. Nightmare will still with tournaments for sure. He's just not overpowered or anything like that.

From a Sieg player: i think nightmare is perfect now the way he is. Compared to the other "Top"tier charas i think he is pretty balanced. The high damage output, while very good, seems justified.

Offtopic: What i don't get though, is why siegfried doesn't have a somewhat similar damage output. They are equally unsafe and have a more or less similar speed (sieg might be even more unsafe/slow). I would really like to hear the nighty-players view about that topic, maybe its just me...

It's irritating when you're playing tira because nightmare has a faster, bigger, double/triple damage version of everything she has.

The huge damage can be dealt with, but if he aint speedy gonzales under that suit i'll eat my hat.
It's a really bizarre matchup where you pray to never get gloomy for once. Feels horrible.

I think nightmare is good the way he is not OP, I'm just missing 11k

he is good the way he is now, i like the damage, i also like how he is still full of holes. His shenanigans (GS, NSS) can be shutdown in various ways, he still suffer from negative frames but the push back on block makes him safer which makes him a very position dependent character, upclose his option is limited, against a competent Natsu or Tira, he gets locked down.

definitely perfect the way he is. as a nightmare main for years i would say he is better this time around but he is not without his flaws. Ive played against high level players and i find the most trouble he has is with siegy and apat. mainly because of how many mixups sieg has once he gets flowing its hard to stop him. while nightmare can also be very fast he does not have as many hard to see lows and he is not as safe. apat mainly because of how fast he is compared to nightmare and because he can punish a large amount of nightmares stuff and with apats huge damage output it really really really hurts.

Nightmare just like every other character in the game has positives and negatives. He hits like a truck, but is unsafe almost all the time. Go ahead and use him against one of the sisters and watch him die after eating a stab punish 4 times. He has good BE's, but can be easily whiff punished by almost anyone in the cast if they have fought him more than 5 times. And till the day I die I will forever say that his CE is the most useless pile of garbage I have ever seen for a super.

Yeah he's definitely easy mode with a good simple matchup against most of the cast. However, he's still not going to be a tournament viable pick because you run into apat and you just.. lose.

What exactly makes Nightmare "easy mode"? I'm legitimately curious because I'm pretty sure you have no idea what you're talking about.

Remind me who won Cannes again?
... ... Oh yes, that's right, Keev - a Nightmare player.

And NM is anything but easy mode. Fundamental tools are much more specialised than most other characters and you still have to work for your damage and have a great spacing game to be a good NM.

This is not a 1 week in training mode tournament character.

For me he went from really weak to decent to hmmm. Because of two simple reasons.

His backdash is GDLK. Flapjacks are i19.

Meh, he's really strong, but slow enough to have to work for the damage.

I will conceed that the instant kill CE is a little much. A lot of people say that it happens so rarely its not an issue---but I've pulled it off on people (un-intentionally) 5 or 6 times already. It would be HILARIOUS if that happened during the final round of a major tournament.

I can't even believe this is a thread. Nightmare is not overpowered in any way. He is slow as hell and the most unsafest character in the game. He does good guard damage and he should! He has a giant sword.. He has no command throw, and poor TC compared to the rest of the cast.He has a decent damage output this time around. He is a decent character at best.

Honestly, I think he needs a B command throw, that gives really good oki. He also needs to be able to do A+B from NSS. If A+B explosion occurs from absorbing a hit, it should be + frames on block....its pretty lame that its unsafe if you absorb a hit and they can block. I miss 11b aswell.. but hey..I can't complain. This Nightmare is still better than SC4 NM..
