Namco-Bandai Announces Soulcalibur II HD Online!

  • Admin
So there has been a furor during these past few days after it was discovered that Namco-Bandai filed a trademark for "Soulcalibur Lost Swords". Until now, we didn't really know what it meant. Companies file trademarks all the time, often just to cover themselves.

Could Lost Swords be an upgrade to Soulcalibur V? An RPG side-story like Soulcalibur Legends? Or perhaps a free-to-play version of Soulcalibur like Tekken Revolution? Well Namco-Bandai just wrapped up their Comic-can panel... and... nothing. No announcement of Soulcalibur Lost Swords. However, Namco-Bandai has announced an HD version of Soulcalibur II will be coming to PSN and XBL this fall.

The HD release will be from the PS2 version, and include Heihachi and Necrid as guest characters. Link and Spawn will not be featured. Included with the resolution upgrade will be several new modes, including online multiplayer! Masaaki Hoshino is serving as producer for this project, rather than Hisaharu Tago who has been responsible for Soulcalibur V.
I don't need to even talk about how exciting this news is; but let me just say that when it does come out, the 24/7 stream will be moved over to it.

I wish people would stop making wishlists naming off additional features for re-releases. Be happy with what you get.

SC2 had just the right amount of features 10 years ago. I am perfectly content with a straight port of the source material. The online play is certainly a plus, especially considering that the original Xbox version (the one I own) would have been much better with it.

I like how you indirectly tell me that I should be content with what I have. Don't patronize me. Nevermind what I wrote was at 5 in the morning and came from a sleep addled brain, but let's be clear:

I'm going to own the SHIT out of this game. I'm perfectly content with what's coming in this game. I'm more than satisfied that this is the ps2 copy of the game, and I wouldn't give no flying fuck if this was the gc, xbox, or arcade version. I would still get and play the shit out of this game regardless of version.

As for that conquest mode, it's my own wouldn't it be nice bullshit. I'm well aware of how fruitless it is to post something like that here. I'm also well aware how this industry works and I know it's something ultimately pointless. regardless, I was sleepy but couldn't sleep and my mind started wandering and I posted what I posted. I said it, and I take responsibility for it, I still feel it would be interesting, but I'm well aware it's not going to happen. what a nigga can't dream? a muh fucka can't wonder? CAN I LIVE?!

Vints Vs Exitwounds: Interesting match indeed...better offline.

Madnis: adorable. i'm looking forward to hopefully seeing your greatness online :)

Everyone else....: shut the fuck up and start organizing tournaments for this :)

This is great news. My friends and I still plays this casually when drinking. Still a great game with or without Step G.

Doubt it would be enough for us to go to tournaments though.

There was some crazy fanatical shit during SC2... That level of Hype still hasn't been matched imo even by today's endorsed/glam'd out fighting scene standards.

Although I don't think it should replace SC5, it would be kind of cool for SC2 to see a semi-revival like SSF2T or Smash Melee had. As stupid as this game could get, watching the YouTube video of Aris' SC2 stream did get me excited to have all of those options again.

Yup! I for one miss a lot of moves and mixups that Talim had in SC2. She totally lost her BBA or BBK mixup.. BBA ended in a low and was weaker damage, BBK was a blockable K but a nice mixup and if it hit it lead to some good damage opportunities. Also as unsafe as it was I have always missed Talim's cartwheel move.

What moves have you all missed?

I thought this might happen during SC4, but people usually don't go back to older 3D fighting games compared to 2D ones. Maybe things will be different with this game now having online play.
