Side Step 2B+KB

[10] Knight
Wow, so i've been playing Maxi for almost 2 years now, and i somehow never knew about 2B+KB being a natural combo after sidestep on some characters. Theres no thread on it, but someone knew about it cause its in the notes section of the move on the wiki, I guess i just never noticed it. Anyways, I think this is pretty important for Maxi and that this is definately worth its own thread.

So 2B+KB NC seems to be very character specific. Some characters it works on both sides, some only on one side, some not at all. Against some characters, they can only block if they realign themselves by releasing and re-pressing the guard button before the attack, and against others it becomes a natural combo if they readjust. Here's a list of what i've come up with so far.

Algol: Right always. Left only if he realigns.
Amy: Both sides always!!!
Apprentice: Left always. Right only if he realigns himself.
Astaroth: Both sides, but can block both sides if he realigns himself.
Cassandra: Left always. Right only if she realigns herself.
Cervantes: Left only, but can block if he realigns himself.
Darth Vader: Both sides, but can block both sides if he realigns himself.
Hilde: Both sides, but she can block both sides if she realigns herself.
Ivy: Left always. Right only if she realigns herself.
Kilik: Left always. Right never.
Lizardman: Left only, but can block if he realigns himself.
Maxi: Left only, but can block if he realigns himself.
Mitsurugi: Left only, but can block if he realigns himself.
Nightmare: Left only, but can block if he realigns himself.
Raphael: Both sides always!!!
Rock: Both sides, but can block both sides if he realigns himself.
Setsuka: Left only, but can block if she realigns herself.
Seong Mi-na: Left only, but can block if she realigns herself.
Siegfried: Left only, but can block if he realigns himself.
Sophitia: Left always. Right only if she realigns herself.
Taki: Right always. Left only if she realigns herself.
Talim: Both sides, but can block both sides if she realigns herself.
Tira: Left always. Right she can only block if she realigns herself, and she must realign very early.
Voldo: Both sides, but can block both sides if he realigns himself. Same in BS.
Xianghua: Left always, right never.
Yoshimitsu: Left only, but can block if he realigns himself.
Yun-Seong: Left always. Right only if he realigns himself.
Zasalamel: Left always. Right only if he realigns himself.

*note: I never noticed any characters being able to block the second hit only when they realign really fast until tira. There may be other characters that this is the case as well. I'll test that later.

Damn, this is something I should have discovered first! XD

Good stuff.

With his awesome sidestep, he can take advantage of this.

yeah, i'm thinking that I"m gonna start adding a lot of sidestep 2B+KB/B+K mix-ups. As situational as this is, I think its pretty major since it gives him a damaging low move that isn't totally blockable on reaction.

There was similar subject on CF.com a while back. (Might save some testing.)

I noticed a lot of inconsistencies reported on whether or not 2B+KB was an NC, so I thought I'd investigate.

Turns out the move seems to NC versus some characters and not others, and some characters it'll only NC if it's not at closest range.

It also seems that characters it always NCs on in open field, it won't NC on near a wall.

Will NC
Algol (Algol is the one of 2 characters that it will NC on even if pushed against the wall)
Yoda (Yoda is the other.)
Sophie
Amy
Cassie
Taki
Ivy
Yun
Zas

Won't NC
Lizardman (2nd hit usually whiffs anyways)
Maxi
Setsuka
Mitsu (2nd hit whiffs sometimes)
Hilde (2nd hit usually whiffs)
Voldo (2nd hit whiffs, but i noticed that if you hit him at JUST the right time in his idle animation, it'll NC, lol)
Asty
Cervy (2nd hit usually whiffs)
Rock
Talim (2nd hit whiffs)
Yoshi

Close Range Won't NC
The Apprentice
Nightmare
Raph
Sieg
Tira
X
Kilik
Mina

oh wow. i didn't even know that this move actually just NC on some characters from straight on. Why have I not been using this move more.

I've been meaning to test 2B+KB vs the sides of opponents for a while now so this is pretty convenient. Thanks for sharing.
