Considering Soulcalibur VI takes place between 1583-1590 (as far as we know) I'm afraid it would be historically inaccurate for women or men to have panties at all. In fact underwear of the likes of today were not seen until the second half of the 18th century. Ancient Greece is where we see the first beginnings of underwear as women wore a form of bra, a simple band of cloth or leather around their chest, called and apodesme (or in Rome as strophium). Both men and women wore loincloths or subligaculum (this is essentially what the default underwear actually looks like in previous soulcalibur games). After the fall of Rome however women would wear a long linen garment called a shift or a smock, or chemise (more common in the 1800s) which went under the dress. From the 16th century on women would also begin wearing corsets made with whalebone and by the end of the 16th century women sometimes wore skirt like garments called petticoats. Men on the other hand would wear linen shorts called braies but women generally did not. It wasn't until the 19th century that underwear became more elaborate and more what people recognize today.Random thoughts:
-Separate the undergarments for top and bottom.
-Have panties as the default.
-Allow highlights for all hair.
-Heterochromia or glowing eyes.
-Physical features separate from items (ie Elf Ears can’t be removed)
You do realize that they already added bikinis, swimsuits and skimpy army suits to the game, right? what's your point?Considering Soulcalibur VI takes place between 1583-1590 (as far as we know) I'm afraid it would be historically inaccurate for women or men to have panties at all. I'm sure you didn't need any of that info but the more you know.
I was making a joke because of the recent 'debacle' with games and historical accuracy. In the process of writing it though I discovered that they are surprisingly accurate with their default underwear for characters in previous games...who knew? You do realize that they already added bikinis, swimsuits and skimpy army suits to the game, right? what's your point?
Not sure if historical accuracy is something you should look forward to in SC, it's never really been known for that exactly, especially later installments that added modern clothing...I was making a joke because of the recent 'debacle' with games and historical accuracy. The clothing for the default outfits/costumes for each character have generally been pretty well done. I'm not really talking about the create-a-soul equipment or anything as that's more of an extension of the game and what you can do with it. I have no issue with any of it. I just think credit should be given where it should since they've done a pretty good job on the designs of the characters. Not sure if historical accuracy is something you should look forward to in SC, it's never really been known for that exactly, especially later installments that added modern clothing...
Alrighty, just don't get your hopes up about that, I think they might've not been clear on that one, and what they meant by 2 stories is a main story, which follows the canon events of the current game, and a short story for all of the characters which follows them individually, that may or may not be canon.I fully believe that the reason we haven't gotten any showcase or anything about it is because it is tied heavily to the second 'story mode' they've hinted at. Equipment will probably be rewards and what not.
(Source)Lazybones2020: Considering the last entry in the SoulCalibur franchise — not SoulCalibur V, but SoulCalibur: Lost Swords — was built with free-to-play aspects, was there anything that was learned from that game model that made its way into SoulCalibur VI?
Okubo-san: With Lost Swords, we learned a lot about what the fans want from the SoulCalibur franchise, and one of the biggest things we saw was the character creator, how much people loved that and how much people loved sharing what they have created, this very personalized warrior, if you will. And although I can’t go into too much detail at this moment, in SoulCalibur VI we will have a character creator in some form.
Hmm...all the more reason for me to set the language to Japanese more often. Now, especially since I have given all my custom characters Japanese girl names. As for pitch/tone, I tend not to touch those often.Oh, and speaking of voices... Can we please have less variation between the Japanese and English CAS voices? It really bugs me how in SC5 there were so many voices that sounded drastically different in Japanese than in English, which made pitch/tone manipulation really weird when changing languages. The female 'Cynical' voice was an exceptionally bad offender, ugh.
This really is a good thread...sounds unusual coming from an old Christian woman, but I am totally down with this. Lady Haruka, my main custom character, always wears those underneath her favorite pink Chinese dress and I daresay that in SC5 it is just not the same with short shorts. And the panties should return rather than the short shorts. Better yet underwear for the top and bottom layers should be separate as some combination bans made no freaking sense.
Since they're pretty much part of CAS at this point kind of hope the weapon options can be:
- Eastern/Western Design depending on the weapon (I.E daggers for Taki and a nodachi (Sephiroth's Masamune) for Nightmare)
- Alternate weapon that functions the same as the primary weapon (Astaroth's hammer)
No kidding. Though, if to PS's logic, that the unnecessary necessity of giving us Japanese school wear for the characters to look 'cute' in, then it shouldn't be too much to ask for them to at least give us some western styled underwear as well. I mean some actual lace-styled, Victoria secret, or Hanky Panky inspired variants would suit my own 'modern' sensibilities. Not sure if historical accuracy is something you should look forward to in SC, it's never really been known for that exactly, especially later installments that added modern clothing...
Something I found weird is that the characters don't have undergarments that are at least designed for the costumes they wear, as additional pieces or layers from/for it to my knowledge. It just looked strange to me that you can strip down the characters who are barely wearing anything or skin-tight clothing to just get shorts or a preset bikini under it. It would just make more sense to have original underclothes for the main characters as well. You'd instantly get more variety just by that alone. The clothing for the default outfits/costumes for each character have generally been pretty well done. My #1 want for CaS is a good system for face editing. Just selecting from a dozen or so stock faces really doesn't cut it. I would really like a system like (and as deep as) the one that Koei used in Dynasty Warriors 7 & 8 Empires. You choose Head Shape, Eyes, Nose, and Mouth separately, each with distinct looks, and are then able to change the specifics of them with sliders. Bladestorm goes an extra step and lets you make your features asymmetrical (the editor and game suck otherwise). I find that in most games where you don't choose the basic shape before using sliders just makes every custom character look like the same character, smooshed and stretched slightly in different ways.
The ugliest parts in CaS tend to be the Shoulder and Waist items because they are placed away from the body and automatically scale to try to avoid clipping. For shoulders at the very least I'd like to see them treated more like Accessories and have control over how they rest on the body to avoid situations where they are floating above the character's shoulders or are just sticking out too far. Being able to manually scale waist items would be handy as well.
These are a really big deal that aren't mentioned very often when talking about CaS. The ability to recontextualize a moveset into a different culture opens up huge possibilities for using the weapons.
edit: Also asymmetrical customization for limbs.
